The SCB (Shield Cell Bank) Thread

The FDL issue won't be with heat only, but most FDL pilots don't have fully powered SCBs with hardpoints out, and need to stow them to use SCBs. With the new delay, FDL will become even less relevant. But hey if we have to sacrifice the most beautiful ship in the game to get a healthy SCB meta, I am willing to pay that price.

Besides, FDL pilots will probably just switch to an armor based meta, which is already pretty decent at ~1800 health: http://coriolis.io/outfit/fer_de_la...4a2b2b272f.Iw18aQ==.Aw18aQ==?bn=Heart Of Gold
If you're having problems keeping your banks, up, try this setup

Not keeping your SCB up will not be an option going forward, IMO. Putting yourself in a position where you have to retract your hardpoints AND wait for the SCBs to come online AND fire a charge...nah. CMDRs in ships with tight power management will simply not be able to be as greedy anymore with the loadouts. If you want all energy weapons, you're going to have to drop the thruster rating significantly. Otherwise, get a mix and profit.

So with the new proposed SCB mechanic, it nerfs every ship that doesn't have extra power and heat efficiency: so it nerfs every ship except the python, anaconda and clipper. It's going to make the FAS and FDL bad, especially with the cutter and corvette coming out.

Jeez if at least if these SCB changes affected the clipper as well, only the tank ships would get a buff. But seriously? Another buff for the clipper?

FD who is responsible for your balance? a bunch of empire players? I'm so sick of the empire getting everything good in this game: I would be pro-federation if it was viable to do so. Supporting empire is just objectively much stronger.

If the corvette comes out and it's not good in pvp I honestly am going to have to start considering other games. This empire bias is absurd.

With this change the FAS is going to be one of the best pvp ships in the game.

Hey, you can always defect to the Empire! We always welcome skilled pilots with open arms!

I overcharge all my ships, and now there is going to be more of a cost for doing so. Shift some priorities around, downgrade a module or two. No big deal.

Really, I think a better solution would have been to ditch SCBs altogether, and change the way the sys capacitor works by allowing you to charge shields at an accelerated rate by placing more pips there.

I highly doubt it considering the FAS already has heat issues AND shield strength issues. Both of those problems with the FAS are going to get even worse with the proposed changes to SCB.

More imporantly, the FAS is already objectively weaker than the FDL or clipper. IMO these SCB changes are going to drop the FAS from top tier pvp-ship to mid tier. In fact, calling the FAS "top-tier" is already a strech of the imagination tbh. These changes could very well drop the FDL to mid-tier as well depending on how bad the heat generation is.

The FAS is only good for duels and small fights because its shields are just way too bad in wing v wing combat. Especially with multiple wings. After the changes make it even harder to use SCB, I fear the FAS will have no role to play in wing combat at all.

I'm already forced to do this to be competitive. Consider all I miss out on if I only support Federation: the clipper, imperial hammers, prismatic shields, and advanced plasma.
What does the federation have? 2 awful pvp ships, and the FAS, which is only mediocre. the federation don't even get ANY useful PP perks. Come on FD, why the clear empire bias?

Except this is going to be far too big of a change. It's going to make keeping 4 pips to shields WAY too strong. Having 4 pips to shields is already far too strong imo, because it reduces your damage taken by 60%. In other words, you can take 2.5x as much damage when you have 4 pips to shields.

Now you want to make it so you can take 2.5x as much damage, AND you have insane base shield regen as well????? Thats insanity!

Sorry, but your idea is just not going to work and is going to mess up the balance even more.

FD needs to add a counter mechanic to SCB instead of going through this buff/nerf cycle. It's the only solution.

I'm starting to become part of the get rid of cell banks, and boosters altogether camp.
Buff the missiles a bit, add more ammo count to the torpedo, make mines do something for crying out loud. Give a reason to buy point defense, and countermeasures.
There's a whole range of weapons that are useless, which makes gameplay predictable, jousting matches.

Well lads. I glad there is going to be a fix, it's something at least.

I'm just annoyed that it SCBs will still continue to hurt combat vessels unduly.

That's what I've been trying to say. There are so many great things this game could offer if it wasn't for SCBs and boosters.

I tend to disagree here. The FAS is getting buffed in this patch by buffing hull reinforcements. FAS wasn't a bank-dependent ship in the first place. Now no ship really can be a bank tank, but few other ships will be able to match the FAS' combination of hull-tanking ability, agility and damage output. In a meta where everyone will need to be prepared to hull tank from time to time, the ships with the really strong hulls and tough-to-hit modules will be the strongest ships. FAS is a big winner here.

FGS and Anaconda should be too, though I worry about the ease of shooting out the Anaconda's drives. Being able to take a big beating still doesn't matter if they can kill your drives quickly. It's a problem that the Anaconda has that other ships don't have to the same degree. A true achilles heel for the ship and perhaps a reminder that it's a multi-role ship as opposed to a dedicated ship.

I propose 1 cell bank for multi-purpose, 2 for fighters, end of story.
Unless they move the SCB to a dedicated module (like the Thrusters), you won't be able to dictate how many banks are on a ship. But you can certainly discourage their use and that's what FD has done here. Imagine the damage and system strain from boosting + firing SCB + firing a laser. lol.

has no one thought that this might buff combat ships vers multi rolled? Combat ships can not carry/spam SCB like multi rolled. Now that there is a power up time for switched off SCB's this will give the dedicated combat ship a more even playing field as the multirolled will not be able to spam SCB's one after the other.

Simply don't touch the SCB, leave it as it is. As several posters already mentioned before, ships like the FAS will become relatively useless, as it already has heat issues with SCBs, plus relatively weak shields. This will lead to even more ganking in open...it will also force a great number of PvP oriented players to leave the game, just to cater to carebare solo play loving kickstarter backers...is really a relatively bad idea.
Solo and Open should be completely independent states..

SCB already forced a large number of PvPers to leave the game.

The fas is NOT useless. It may have weaker shields and trouble utilizing SCBs, but that doesn't make it useless. This may come as a shock, but bank tanking isn't the only way to do things. Things like armour, chaff, and defensive flying can in fact mitigate damage, too. So tired of the "big shields or go home" mindset- it's very narrow.
