The SCB (Shield Cell Bank) Thread

I agree with LeoKesler.

The real issue is not SCB it is the shield regeneration time for bigger shields.
You can make the regeneration a non-combat thing eg. if you get damaged your shields will not start regenerating before some time, but please make the shields regenerate much faster then you'll only need SCB in an emergency.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but currently the Anacondas shields are something like 30min for a full regen.

You forget - bigger shield to cover fatter... er... hull = more energy required therefore requires more energy to complete regeneration. You're a hundred times fatter in a 'Conda than a 'Winder, why should there not be a hundred times more energy required, or in fact, even more, perhaps exponentially more because you are creating a bigger 'shell.'
Good. And that is the reason we can buy a 8A power plant (162 millions) and 8A power distributor (27 million). Now tell me, if your ship is using 95% of available power, why dont use the 5% to get a faster regeneration ?

Because, as with all things, there are rules. You can. You can buy an SCB, only the payoff on that is heat generated. Okay - you take a high speed charger to your phone, what's going to happen? A: You get power loss as generated heat. B: You battery is going to get damaged.

But rw stuff aside. Owning a 'Conda in the game is the closest thing you can get to pay to win. Turn up in a conflict and you might as well all go home, the 'Conda is here. FDev have stated that was never the intention, ergo, the spiking of SCBs and the restoring of skill=win, rather than size=win.

But if you only can buy a much more worse Ship with more Credits...
The Longtimemotivation is gone completly...

With 1.4 it`s realistic... a 100.000€ SUV is faster than a 30.000€ GTI...
The one is just a SUV and the other a Sportscar... but Credits count.

And killing a 800-1000 Million Cutter with 2 25 Million Vultures is just.... yeah... i don`t have Words for that.

In 3300 with that amount of Hightech... the only Way for better, will be... BIGGER... cause Quality has also his limits.

I have to agree. The Anaconda or even more the Cutter/Corvette is the closest to pay to win. But instead or paying cash you invested your time by grinding to get these ships. Is this wrong? I don't know, but currently two skilled Vulture pilots (with 2m insuance costs) will win against a battle fitted Cutter/Corvette (with 50m rebuy costs). This is like when Silvester Stallone would kill a half army with his military knife - which he actually did in Rambo 1-4!

Or like Luke Skywalker taking out the Death Star with his X-Wing, or killing a Super Star Destroyer by knocking the shields out and hitting the bridge.

Bigger also means easier to hit.

It should not be a given that having a big ship means win. So FDev are adjusting the skill factor. As some of the Beta 1.5 threads are showing, it is still possible to use SCBs but it takes 'more skill' to do right.

If they'd give the big ass ships the support role (tank a lot, deal not much dmg, support small ships with shields e.g), I think this would solve many of these issues.
Not many would fly these. Those who do, are aware they need to get guarded by small fighting ships. They would be useful in their role. But would not be overpowered compared to the smaller ones. They still would be some kind of status symbol.

There still could be compromises between supporter and fighter, that have a little more or less support/fighting capabilities.

What you are talking about is making it more Hollywoodmovie... yeah... wrong way. Cause nobody will fly that big Ships in Battles if they let the SCB stay that way. Nobody wants to grind 50Million just for one insurence, if 2-3 guys which play the game for some Weeks can kill you.

It would be ok if you would have some benefits from the big ships... as a compensation, but no.

Welcome to a World were eveybody is in a X-Wing. Sounds boring hm?

Oh. really? You think?

So simple... don't fly the big ships in to battle. They're much more useful in other roles, but the Conda is a multi-role, and you want it to class up to a dedicated fighter, and you wonder why a couple of dedicated fighters can take down your massive multi-role.

And I've already made Michael admit to the vulnerability of modules that seem to only be addressed by Horizon's synthesis system (or Sandro taking a serious look at module health). Which is the whole problem with armor tanking being negligible in large scale fights.

Please don't ignore part of the conversation just because it is convenient, I held the dialogue for your supportive evidence to be available to begin with, so I know well of what Michael/Sandro said.

PvE player will check this scb nerf, when it's too late! But pve-player are also be hitten by this nerf. When they have lost their ultimative big ships (corvette and cutter) from a little wing of CMDRs or just NPCs in a warzone... than a great defense of their ships - the scb is gone away...

what excatly have launchable fights to do with introducing support features for ships?

"Don't fly the big ships" exactly this will happen for PvP! But the goal should be variety. Small + Big should be useful... in an ideal world TOGETHER!

Yeah... i will take the Federal Corvette(Name for BATTLEships) and trade like hell...

*eyesroll

What a fun i bought me with that 700 Million Credits... now i grind up to buy me... oh yes... there is nothing above... just another Tradingship...

Weren't you going to go to bed? ;)

If you fly a big ship in a battle (>10 players) your primary job is to tank, the longer the better and secondary to attack the other big ships. Once you've been attacked and rammed constantly by 5-6 players there is no fighting back anymore. Once your shilds are down you have 5-10 seconds to jump or you are dead because the enemy target your FSD. I really would like to see this concept of guarding by smaller ships, but honestly in all real battles this never happens because such big attack will be over for you within the next 30 seconds! There is simply no time to coordinate the defense. The stacked SCB will just buy you a little more time - nothing else.

I would think this is rather apparent. Having NPC fighters and setting them to either defend you or attack your target. The problem with how it works for larger ships at the moment (I say this as someone from the outside looking in because I don't have the cash to really own a large ship) is that players largely do things on their own. So what you are basically suggesting is wings fighting wings, and until players can get NPC's to join their wing or have fighters to launch from their own ship, saying that large ships should play a support role is a rather moot point, suggestion as smaller craft can be extremely effective in taking down larger ships when working together.

Of course these support ships would need much more tankability then currently available for any ship. So much, that one would need to think about whether its worth fighting the supporter or the fighters.
