The Scorpion, first impressions.

I just booted to Horizons whilst sat in a Scorpion and it said it couldn't load due to incompatible features ( I was on a Horizon friendly planet) and was given the option to recover to orbit. Loading to Horizons whilst in your ship and you have a Scorpion aboard just greys out the deploy button for the SRV.

Interesting that it refuses to load.

Agreed, Scorpy's accuracy is a real joke.
Works only in very CQC. Point blank.
If you want to shoot some NPCs - use Scarab - it much-much better.
The dispersion really needs tightening up; can't hit anything at range with the main gun and going in closer means you get obliterated by enemy NPCs. On that note, it doesn't feel much "tankier" than the Scarab to me either, shields and hull seemed to go down just as quickly imo. Could also use a way of re-arming from the mothership as well, since you blow through ammo faster and I can see the constant need for ammo synth just getting annoying.

Oh? That is very strange. Can you give any further information? Was there any clear, noteworthy differences between the ones where you could and could not make purchases? I will update accordingly.
I can't offer any specific info no, after 2 I gave up and just went to Jameson. But I know for sure they were military economy sites with outfitting. Both outposts, not the big stations.

Once man scorpion and I could drive and crew the turret at the same time.

Steve 07.
Yes, when in the driver seat. But the game wouldn't let me operate the turret from the gunner's seat. It's probably a bug because it makes no sense (unless - it's done to babysit single players to prevent basically being a sitting duck). Either way it doesn't bother me too much as I play on my own and will want to be in control of the driving bit at all times.

Just to be sure now that I've thought about it some more. You say stations, are you referring to space or planetary here?

Space, the small ones (the ones without large pads).
That may be your problem. I got mine at ground installations, planetary ones and I believe (I'd have to go crosscheck) that this was pointed out in the patchnotes as well. Obviously Shinrarta is a special case because Shinrarta but, yeah.

I got mine from a megaship.

Interestingly, it also has - niche - exploration uses. The much better handling than the Scarab means that it's great as an exobiology taxi on ice worlds - and if you can find a nice straight line, it's not bad for top speed either with four pips to engines. No jump boost to speak of means you won't be getting much above its rated speed, though, or able to skip over rougher terrain anything like as much, and without the wave scanner it's only useful for exobiology.

Still, I'll definitely be keeping it.

Oh yeah for sure. The handling is far and away superior to the Scarab to me so as soon as I am finished with all the testing I want to do, I'll be cleaning out my vehicle-fleet for this magical creation. :D

Oh that's interesting. Thank you! I'll add that :)
I think there may be some confusion about 'military system/station'.

I flew to many military systems, but they most did not have military stations, only industrial or extraction for example. They of course did not stock the new srv.

The megaship I visited was itself a military economy, I'm unaware of the systems economy.

So you will find the scorpion in stations other than planetary bases, but filtering for system economy is not enough.

As posted above, works just like scarab solo. You can drive and have some gimbals on locked target, shoot both rocket and autocannon, and to get finite turret control you go into turret mode, but lose ability to turn
You can bind to different axis and control driving while in turret.

So it appears that, if one unequips the SRV bay that has one's scorpion in it, that the scorpion is gone and replaced with a scarab when one re-equips it and one can't get the scorpion back. One is forced to find a military economy port with outfitting and buy a new one. Anyone else seeing this?

Edit: Would be nice if purchased SRVs were managed like modules or if SRV bays would retain the purchased SRV when storing (and indicate which SRV is loaded in outfitting). Or, at the very least, allow new ones to be purchased/equipped in fleet carriers without stocking them in the carrier like we can with the scarab. This is still not optimal since one would still be forced to buy a new scorpion any time they decide to unequip their SRV bay for whatever reason.
My experience has been different: I purchased a planetary hangar on a ship and put a Scorpion in it, moved back to my FC and stored the planetary hangar because the SRV wasn't needed on that ship.
I changed ship to the one where I will need the Scorpion, and went to install the planetary hangar but a problem arose: I had three planetary hangars stored, and no way to tell which one had the Scorpion, so I had to go by trial and error.
In the end I found the one with the Scorpion (the other two had the Scarab, obviously).
In short, when I stored the module with the Scorpion, it retained it, but if you have multiple hangars in store, you cannot tell which SRV they carry.

Are you sure you did not have more than one stored hangar, just to he sure?

I haven't tried with logging out and back, so I don't know whether logging out resets the hangar to a default Scarab

I don't get the point of the scorpion. It trades flight, speed, scanning, and cargo for armor and "firepower", but there's nothing currently that needs armor or firepower. I assume it's meant for on-foot thargoid fights. The gun dispersion is also pretty ridiculous even when just tapping it and I suspect if I took it to a guardian structure it'd be overall lower firepower because of how few rounds would hit. Rockets also seemed weak although I only tested on my shields and maybe they're better on hull, was damage equivalent to about 2 seconds of gunfire. There's no current content that needs high alpha SRV weapons, sooo... Yeah.

Well, it's taking me about 2-300% longer to kill NPCs with the scorpion than the scarab, which is odd considering it's supposed to be the military version. You basically have to get way closer to NPCs to hit them which puts you in a lot more danger (although at least that does make use of the sturdier shields). I like the way it drives though! It'd be pretty nice if they balanced it a little to be closer to the scarab in military strength.
