Optimal mass works for Thrusters (only optimal engine mass = ship mass will give max speed)

Fastest speeds and acceleration from thrusters are achieved with the highest optimal mass thruster and the lowest ship weight possible.

The more weight I remove, the faster ships get, even if I am already well below optimal mass. It's been this way since Beta 2.00 and is still this way as of Final 1.03.

Probably the same for an eagle, they fall over when you shoot them, and I think they have size 3 shields.

Base figures in the specs seem to be calibrated for C class modules of the largest size the ship can mount, in my experience. With the same shield, a Viper should have almost double the shield strength of an Eagle.

I really haven't tested mass vs. shield strength in any detail.

Shield cell keybind

I noticed that if you have several shield cell banks, using this button makes all of them use one cell.
I think everyone would agree that it makes this button almost useless if you have several cell banks, and forces you to use incredibly inconvenient fire group cycling.

Good point. That button should only fire one cell and cycle through all available shield banks starting with best rated one first.

Shield Cell Questions

I bought some shield sells, they give me 9/9 charges.

Does this means I can replenish a damaged shield ring 9 times ?

Is it ok it is just bound to a key/joystick, it doesnt need to be on a fire group yeh ?

What do the more expensive shield cell's offer ?

Thanks.

Yes, binding them to a key saves you the hassle of having them in a fire group. Yes, you can replenish shields 9 times until you have to refill your ammo at any outpost, then you get 9 charges again. The more expensive shield cells, as far as I know, replenish more shield amount, but may have fewer charges before they need to be recharged.

Overall, shield cells are crazily overpowered at the moment, if you ask me.

You mean 1/9? That should be 10 total 1 in the clip and 9 spare.
Anyways, A cells boost more but with less charges.
You should at least use a class 1/2 the size of your shield.
You can use cells in two slots and they will boost twice the amount.

Yes, but only when it's not completely collapsed. So best use it as soon as all 3 rings are red.

It has a dedicated control, so you can bind it to a key indeed and does not need to be on a fire group indeed.

As far as i know, the amount of charges increase with the different rating types.
However, i'm using class 2 ones, where rating B gives me 9 charges, whereas rating A give me 6 charges.... But i think that's a bug

Also if you have more than one shield cell bank then you should put them in separate fire groups as the key bind fires each shield bank module at the same time. So instead of having 18 available you only get 9 uses... Although those 9 will be more powerful since you're firing 2x the ammo each time.

At least I think this is what happens!

can someone confirm this? (servers are down at the moment...) – i bought a second shield cell bank so that i can finally take on one of those elite anacondas with 150k cr bounty on her head, i think i might be able to do it with 10+ scb recharges, no need for fewer but stronger ones...

Which ship are you flying? If it's a Viper, get a B shield cell instead, it has more charges than the A, I find it a lot more useful that way - and one shield cell is more than enough for an Anaconda then.

if you have a key bound to use shield cells, every shield cell you have will use a charge.
If you put them in a fire group you can activate them as you need with your primary/secondary trigger.

thanks. well, that makes things more complicated. switching fire groups for shield cell use can be dangerous in the heat of battle :)
but i'm going to try that "go for power plant or drive" thing people have mentioned, might make things easier.

Shield Cells. Yes No or Maybe

Lots of posts about whether Shield Cells are a valid part of the game, broken mechanic or should be nerfed.
Whats your view?
