The "Small Questions that don't Deserve their own Thread" Thread

OK I got one.. I noticed that most systems are connected in a tree structure. But sometimes I see a system where some planets connect to a single X

What is that X?

I think that's the centre of mass of the paired bodies.
Other objects rotate around a binary pairs centre of mass.
That I think is the 'X'

Whats the best way to set a new curve for a Saitek X52? Having issues with FAoff and would like to set a better curve to gain more control :)

Good idea for a thread OP!

I have one about surface scanning.
As it is, you can surface scan a body straight through another celestial body, which is completely blocking the line of sight.
1. is that working as intended ? (seems very weird to me tbh)
2. if it isn't, why have so few posts pointed this out ?

And if the game is mainly about flying your ship, wouldn't this be a perfect reason to fly your ship ? Fly around that star to get a clear LOS of the body you want to surface scan ?
See, i struggle to take some of the more tinfoily discussions serious, when at the same time we just accept basic flaws (if it is one) like this.

The Voyager probes have been found, what about the Mariner probes?

Wikipedia lists that out of the 10 Mariner probes, 7 went into heliocentric orbits, first one exploded on launch due to an equation error, another also was destroyed during launch and the one other will crash into Mars in 2020.

Based on the targets for Mariner programme were the inner planets of Venus and Mars, I would assume Mariners, if in game, would be between Mars and Mercury.

Griefers sometimes ram people as they're entering a station. Can using a Docking Computer stop this happening?

Im pretty sure it's always been like this and is intended. Although you do make a good point with LOS, but for exploring it would make some scans take longer having to fly around planets and exploring and time don't mix well. Hope that helps

No. The main reason griefers ram you by the way is to blow themselves up against your ship while you're going over 100m/s. This makes you WANTED with the station you're about to dock which then promptly blows you up. Yeah yeah. Hilarious /s. The way to prevent this is to simply drop below 100m/s on approach. Then they blow themselves up for nothing. Which is geuinely hilarious. :p

But can they hit you and push you over 100ms? I suppose we just gotta approach at like 50ms .

Yep, and it's a win-win because they go off to their rebuy screen cackling about how you're getting blown up by the station while you just shrug, mentally call out "sucker!" and dock in peace :D

I'm looking to pick up what I'll call a fast-travel ship. Basically sometimes my mates are in other areas of the bubble and in my Cobra MKIII it would take 30+ jumps to get to them. So what is a reasonably (read: cheap) priced ship that has some serious jump distance to it so I can make it across the bubble and then hang out with my friends (and transfer my other ships in)?

Wait for 2.3 to drop and get the new, lighter, DBX?

What is Sol like? I'm thinking of grinding out for the permit and moving there since it seems like a very large and interesting system. Most systems I come across are just one or two gas giants and a couple moons which is kind of boring. Can I actually make a living in and around Sol? Bounty hunting, missions, mining, etc?

There's a couple of "posh" stations, Ariel has some nice misty canyons and ISTR at least one decent RES in the rings of Jupiter. Once you've done a tour of the planets and moons there's not much else unless you want to find the Voyager probes. Probably ok for Fed ranking as all factions are Fed aligned.

That's kind of what I'm looking for. A fully fleshed out and detailed solar system. Mostly just wondering if it's missing anything other systems have. I assume there are no conflict zones, but I don't usually go for those.

I went to Sol for the first time recently, it was nice, but I wasn't as blown away as I was expecting. Still pretty cool though, and really populated by other commanders!

I'm thinking of pledging to a power for modules.

How long do I need to stay pledged? Is it just 3 weeks or do I need to stick it for longer?

Whose module should I start with?

You can buy the modules after four weeks, counting from the moment you pledge. At that point you can buy/store as many modules as you like and then resign from the power without penalty, aside from not being able to buy any more.

Prismatics, packhounds, Ihammers and APAs are the big names. All are good choices, but it's just personal preference.
