Is it wise to sit around insulting nobody? I don't see why rational, intelligent people would spend so much time typing internet elite-speek just to congratulate themselves, or to antagonize players on the other side of the debate?
Come on, we can do better than this. Filling page after page of cliches is no better than someone coming to the thread to call players in solo cowards or cheaters. Let's show some maturity so we don't open our positions to petty complaints.

After 20,000 + posts, I dare to postulate that this method doesn't actually work
Every once in awhile you have to try. The blame for issues in Open still seem to fall on those who deserve no blame and all of us who'd like to help are dismissed as they cannot look at what is truly the issue and must deflect.
If anything we are playing it down, here's a recent post from a thread about an explorer who was killed and lost months of data :

sorry but any one who takes glee in ruining 3 months gameplay is someone who I want nothing to do with in my game.... exactly the same feeling for anyone who deliberately goes into private groups with the sole intention of breaking their rules and griefing.
utter prats and there is no redeeming positives. I have no time for clowns like that and if I come across one like that in mobius I will be pulling the plug. its not ideal but it is what it is.
Yep, being "scared" or a "care-bear" doesn't come into the decision, it's all about choosing not to spend time with deeply unpleasant people in a game played for fun.
Not everyone in open is deeply unpleasant (not by a long shot), but the deeply unpleasant are in open, except when they temporarily infiltrate mobius.
The irritating thing to me is the idea that anything players do to eachother is inherently a good thing. Yes, being interdicted by pew pew boys is a regular thing, which you implicitly consent to when you enter Open. But saying the game is better every time someone is aimlessly ganked is basically telling others what they find fun.
I think a lot of griefing would be sorted out by having better servers so we don't have all the instancing problems. My wing had yet another fallout last night after travelling for four hours, first to Leesti hoping to meet player pirates, then to 34 Pegasi (another known battle zone) and finally to Rhea (Winters' capital), where one of the wing became so frustrated he shot an expert level player in an asp without making a demand (drop your media materials etc). I have a couple of 'griefers' on my friend list and I have quizzed them about their chosen 'path' in elite (these two are killers rather than cheats or exploiters) and it is frustration with finding players like themselves to fight, that has made them shoot anything they run into. I'm not defending this (and I actually fight these guys in-game), merely suggesting that if servers were better, the open world might become a little more...chivalrous.

I have it on good authority that women mature earlier than men. About 50 years earlier. The same authority has informed me we're also shallow and insensitive.

Why are Open and Solo combine server?
First off I want to say I love this game. I just want to know why there isn't separate servers like most MMO. Pvp for people who like risky situations and threat of other players. And a pve server for people who just don't want to be bothered but still could play with real players.

I'm guessing it's down to cost. Server costs aren't cheap.
