So what you're really saying is that FDEV is too lazy to implement two separate BGS running at the same time?
They already do this with the shadowban.

The only people who do not like the idea of separate "saves" (read: BGS) for solo/private groups and open are those that use the current system as an EXPLOIT.
They like to fly in open and pretend their gangster until they see other players coming for them and when it's time to d FDo gangster "stuff", they combat log, jump to solo, get to the station, log back in OPEN and whine/complain/talk smack.

A shadowban just puts you in a different mode, like open/group/solo. FD decided that there would be one galaxy for all players. Exploit is just a word you use to inflame the argument. It has been established that it is the direct opposite of an exploit.

Flying in open is gangster? What utter nonsense. Does flying in open make you feel gangster? When I fly in open I can hardly find a player. It's as milktoast as you can get. Banging your chest over playing open is pretty weak. Get along with your ridiculous posturing. We have important things to talk about here.

Do you actually read what you post before you hit enter?

1. FDEV is not lazy and that is not the reasons there is one BGS. Go look at the first page or kindly ask Jockey to post the wall of text for you again so you can read and hopefully understand.
2. Shadowban is on the same server.
3. Those who don't like the idea of seperate saves (BGS) are in all three modes and are people who understand the game and not exploiting. You scream exploit because you want the game to be a certain way and since people won't play your way you throw a tantrum.
4. This "gangster" is so jawdropping asinine that it is hard to believe a competant adult wrote it. You need to READ the posts in the threads.. mk I, II, III and you will see how full of bull your accusations are. There may be a few players like that but they will soon have no one around to play with. Your acting like every person who plays in open and not like you do is some sort of cheater and your so full of it that it is hard to take anything you say with any seriousness.

Mouse - you do have to bear in mind that some people are only capable of comprehending the game in a "ME win u LOSE!" way.

They have no idea of how anything works. They have no idea of what a networking stack is. They have no idea of anything beyond "LULZ I pew-pewd U so I WINZ"

That is absolutely fine. The game caters to that. They can be as gangster as they like. It still won't help them :D

I try to be fair and nice, but when someone blasts in and pretty much insults anyone who supports the game the way it is and doesn't agree with their stance calling them cheaters and exploiters I get snarky and have to make sure I dont' say something I really shouldn't.

So take a step back, reflect in the fact that "I'm not a mindless pew-pew" and everything in the world suddenly seems better :D These people only insult others because they want others to rise to them, and become their "content". Starve them out. Let them eat each other. Display real skill. Pew-pew them back. It doesn't matter - nothing you or I or anyone else who plays Elite can cure their inadequacies. Don't worry about it :D

there is playing the game to play the game, and then there is playing the game to win.

back in the '70's a couple of friends and i would sit under an awning in the yard and play risk.
there was a guy down the block that would see us and want to join in.
we told him "only if you bring four cases of beer".
he would sprint to his car and be back a few minutes later from the local convenience store.

he liked to win, and we liked to play.
so the three of us would beat him back till he had only one territory, and then then we would let him fight his way back out and win.
he would buy the beer and we would let him win.
it got to be a regular thing and we all won in the exchange, just in different ways.

personally i like playing elite.
to me a win is to min/max a trade route really well and then do some exploring.
as for my progress to elite in combat mine is at %0.
for me a win would be to max out trading and exploring and keep combat at %0.

i play mobius.

+1 Rep. Very well said, and some games are play to win, but I don't see Elite that way. If some who play open do.. well then they one because there will be no one left in open.

First snippet: Friends group used to play a lot of Risk. I played 'casually,' for the fun of it. I would do the same but in reverse; I'd let them beat me back to Australia (always get Australia!) and then explode out of there when the other players' forces were tied up with each other. Those were fun times.

Second snippet: I like the cut of your jib, sir! I've done a wee bit of exploring but nothing serious yet, although it is next... I'm, astonishingly, at 78% of the last jump to Trade Elite. I will celebrate then with a beer on Founder's World :)

Unfortunately, my Combat rating has gone to "Mostly Harmless" instead of 0% because I wondered what would happen if I armed my trade Anaconda with turrets... lots and lots of turrets. "My god, it's full of beams!"

oh ya; I play Mobius & solo :)

Can't we just end the mode debate now, I think it's obvious that we will all have to agree to disagree and play the game our way :)

Okey good, my friend and me just undermined a system almost completely by ourselves and we waited for players to deliver powerplay cargo. Only one player appeared but before him, the support has already reached 10%. I believe that some players get into the wrong instance when playing in open due to different timezones + matchmaker but I also believe that a couple of players are delivering cargo in solo.

Easy fix: Every cargo collected and delivered in solo will have no influence on powerplay stuff but will give the full amount of merits. If collected in solo and delivered in open, the route traveled from the starting starpoint to the destination must be in open or again, no influence on powerplay but full merit reward.
If collected in open and delivered in solo. Same.
Basically the route from the departure to the destination with the cargo must be traveled in open in order to have influence on the powerplay feature.
The same should apply for undermining and expansion and activities like that.

If you are against this suggestion, please add your reasoning (besides from "I do not want to PvP and still ...", yes we already know that).

Oh look the ferris wheel is coming around again.. >.<

Reason.. and listen really carefully here.... Power Play is a PVE task, it is not PVP at all. At no point in the PP dynamics is PVP even a part of it.

If you PVP in open and want to intercept people doing PP in open as well that is fine, but quite trying to the game to get it so that only your way of playing accomplishes anything.

i don't think it's a matter of being against your idea, it's that i don't see a good reason to be in favor of it.
a longer explanation of what you are saying won't help.
i understand what you are saying, your not the first to say it.
i just don't agree.

Think of it this way Mouse (and several others) - those delightful people who can't comprehend responsibility for cleaning up their own mode WILL NEVER BE BACON CATS or get to play with me.

Frankly, that's reason enough to play in a private group.

I jsut can't figure out why some think that their way of play is the only "proper" way to do anything and the rest of us are just putzs.

Bacon Cats don't think that way.

A small question, how do people defend or argue that Solo mode should NOT be seprate from Open? Where is the logic or reasoning? An example, the bounty board? Like, its hard enough to actually find the player you are looking for in open... and he might actually be in solo!? Why have his name on the list on the first place!? But there is no way of you knowing? Is he in solo or open? Am i right? So basically this bounty board is pointless? I mean, how do you defend this? Having lots of people occupy the same space... but not in the same dimension!? I can understand this whole thing from a technical viewpoint. Calculations and power etc....
And yes "WE ALL KNEW" this was going in the game. Well im sorry, i didnt. I didnt read EVERY single word about this game.
Its just so so silly. 3 different dimensions working in the same universe!? So with powerplay, there is fair to real chance you are fighting a ghost army. You wont see em, you wont touch em and you wont talk to em. But they can take over your "turf" without you ever seeing them. Just... cant wrap my head around this. Frowning with confusion.

They wanted every mode to have an effect on the background simulation, easy as that. I wont' discuss the bounty board as I don't use it. If you missed a major selling point in the game when you read about it, I appologize but it isn't anyone's problem.

And PP.. it IS a shadowplay, it is politics, it is the war that is unseen. It is NOT pvp.

By keeping the modes linked but distinct FD only need to run one back ground sim saving cash and employee time. By providing players with the option of choosing (and switching) modes they maximize the number of people who are willing to play the game, again this would maximize income in terms of copies sold. That's the FD logic and reasoning.

I've run out of people to gank, they're all hiding in solo force them into open so I can gank them some more, PK'ers logic and reasoning.

I haven't been specifically stopped from using this exploit therefore it's FD's fault and problem, griefers logic and reasoning.

It's a game that I play for fun, I have the option of avoiding PK'ers and griefers and I use it when and if I choose, because PK'ers and griefers are not fun. My logic and reasoning.
