People, the main issue is not Open and Solo, the main issue is the trust of customers in FD.

I could delete the Open/Solo part of my OP and it would still bring my point across. Stop seeing only what you want to see.

People saw what you wrote, that is what they responded to. That it was not what you wanted to hear is not their fault, and your reactions only fueled the replies. You talk about communication and claim you have a degree and know how to talk to customers, well your performance in this thread bears stark witness to that not being the case.

Maybe you could ask FD for some pointers in how to talk to customers, they have better customer relations than you do, and Open and Solo are not going to be separated as they are supposed to be on teh same BGS>

Most of the games I've played have three options: "Easy" or starter mode; "Normal" mode and then "Hard" mode.
In most of them, you don't get "extra" for choosing the hard mode; mostly that just decreases your stats to
make the game more difficult. It usually doesn't offer anything unique to each player.

Sure, you can go on raids with a bunch of people where you wouldn't stand a chance alone, but that isn't "extra" for one mode.

Here's a shocker for you then, people who play open, like I am guessing you do, but are not instanced with you, also affect your game. All solo mode is, is people who will never be instanced with you.

+1. This simple logic utterly decimates the pointless and tiresome "separate solo and open" demand.

And yet this point is utterly resisted by the separation faction. They say, "Open is so big! Just go 100ly from the central cores and you will hardly meet anyone!" They overlook (not "miss"; hard to miss when it's been articulated in this thread mega times) the situation where I go out 100ly and trade or BH or pewpew and I am influencing their game. In open.

+rep to both

How many of those games are multiplayer rather than single player? I would think most multiplayer games offer better rewards for more the more difficult mode. I know destiny does, I'm not familiar with many other mmos that offer easy and hard modes.

So you have paperwork to show that you know the theory - trust me when I say, theory and practical application are 2 different beasts altogether.

"In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is." - attributed to Einstein, Yogi Berra or Aldous Huxley

borderlands games offer different difficulties.... Now, for me it is a valid comparison as personally I play Ed in exactly the same way that i play borderlands (and payday 2 and L4D) - either on my own for with mates in a party of up to 4 however for thse who play as a typical MMO then i agree you would not expect difficulty options (and to be honest it is not something i would ask for)

That being said it has been confirmed that the squadron 42 part of star citizen will!... and I belive this actually unlocks experience and loot and relationships which carry into the main game so...................

All games I play give you better loot drops for playing in harder modes. Hard to think of one that didn't.

Poster child for that was Diablo/D2/LoD - you could play on Hell level, with a party of 8, and end bosses were just as likely to throw you a Cracked Sword than a leveled piece of equipment.

It's interesting that my post quoting Alien and Ensign Ward regarding affecting open was passed by for my post about difficulty levels. Oh well.

Squadron 42....taking it's lead from Valve! "Squadron 42 will be released in episodes,"

As everyone still waits for Half Life 3 (the third episode of that game!) Why do I continue to get more and more concerned that this game will be a true mess on release?

Please, I cannot take it, I almost wetting my myself.... the saviour of PvP is turning into an ED clone!
And now it wants to be like Valve - oh, dear god even my toenails are laughing.

GW2 and WoW does, and Diablo does (and offers increased rewards for playing together).

Where is the offical policy statement on whether greifing is permitted?

Code of Conduct has no general prohibition of griefing.

A moderator says griefing is "part of the game" here.

David Braben says "How do we plan to address PvP (player vs player) “griefing”? If enough players complain about the offender's behaviour in a certain time, then they will be banned from this group" here.

You think players killing players for fun is griefing. Others disagree with you. That's why there is a solo mode, but I wouldn't recommend it. Better to learn how to fight or how to run and accept that sometimes, there's nothing you can do. This is Elite.

What is your definition of griefing?

The Code of Conduct that you linked to spells out pretty clearly what is not permitted. Unless otherwise posted in one of their policy pages, anything else would assume to be permitted.

Easy solution: Get a posse together and hunt them down.

Ah, but under the Code of Conduct and Terms of Use, which hunting is a violation of the rules. :)

Nooooo, the Elite I remember--FFE--was a singleplayer game. So for that matter was every elite before that. I'm afraid MMO junk was never part of Elite until now, and imho it only is now because MMOers always yammer for everything to be an MMO.

ED's a great singleplayer game in solo, even with the nerfs they shoved down our throats while giving them to the PvP crowd. Honestly from reading the forums, I think the FD have a long way to go before they learn how to manage turning it into an MMO... and it isn't really a good mmo yet.

So I'll keep playing it solo most of the time--and most of the time, that's just the way I like it. For the rest of the time, there's groups.

Yes, you take every opportunity to say that.

Frontier was my Elite and you were constantly being interdicted but it was dull because AI can't fight. Humans can, and they make the galaxy alive and this is the missing piece of what was nearly a perfect game. You should be afraid, this isn't a planetarium, it's a dystopian capitalist future. Solo is like the training simulator.

That's just my opinion and I'm glad there are solo and group options because it cuts down on the complaining posts on this forum.

Griefing (AKA killing a player without warrant and just cause, especially those that aren't in combat optimized ships, and similar) is permitted. Cheating isn't. That's the nature of this game, like it or not, so just plan on it and compensate for it accordingly.

Hmph. AI could fight a lot better in FFE than I could; the controls were so crappy I couldn't hit a damn thing. I'd twitch my joystick to the left, it'd turn way too far. I'd try to correct, it'd go too far back the other way. Sometimes it'd go the wrong way. You can't fight like that; PvP combat under those conditions would've been an idiotic joke. I literally could not aim at anything smaller than the size of a quarter on my screen.

Yes I still loved that game. It was everything I imagined spaceflight would be, and I'd have played it with no combat at all happily enough; frankly, because of how jacked up combat controls were, I had to cheat so much just to survive the first time I tried to engage Stardreamer anywhere but Alioth that there may as well not have been combat.

I do not play this game for the "joy" of being ganked by some gloating sore winner that's going to look for more chances to bully me later, and I don't play it for the "joy" of barely beating some sore loser who'll look up my IP address and shut me down with a virus either. People suck. I like combat in this game, but I'm much happier just fighting NPCs. Even if they are easy, at least they don't gloat, bully, belittle, whine, threaten, or any of the other crap things players do. THAT is why I think they should've left this a singleplayer game. Challenge is only worth so much and 99% of the people I ever ran into in MMOs went way past the point where the challenge they offered absolutely was not worth it.

Soo basically we're upset because through modern online play, there are a small group of entities in game (players) who are more agressive than the average NPC?..
Would you rather there were just NPCs that shot you on sight?
It seems you play this game to be wrapped in bubble wrap and demand things be made so easy so as to remove any actual challenge and associated reward.

I'd agree that the MMO aspect has a long way to go to be warranted as MMO, but this is still a SP game with a MP opt-in feature. It's still very much a SP game at heart...

Can you send me that in MP4 format, I will pay for it.

Lol when I look at SC it makes me glad I bought ED, my nephew has it, last time I looked (it was quite a while back) all it had was a pretty hanger.

Now people who want to own stations come on in for $10k real money you can own one, come to SC, ED is not for you, come to SC and buy your station lol. well sometime in 2017 maybe but that's not the point SC is the way forward I tell you!

Please?
