Why bother with excused players or confusing a perceived "enemy"?

You can smack players silly in-game, and for those participants who wish to be utter parts, you can lulzban them to oblivion and back at your leisure. There are no "enemies" in Elite - there are simply those who try to be, those who want to be, and those who cry.

Serious head on.

I really hope I like CQC, I will spend some time in the Beta and go in with an open mind.

If I like CQC it will let me explore a little, I would prefer another slot for that but if CQC can keep me amused for a bit I might stretch my legs a little.

You need to play more mate ;):):D, I have been in some Hi-reses (normally on the dark side of the planet) where roids have jumped me and killed me, I swear a few moved into my way, if you fly fast they gang up on you.

That said I have not yet been interdicted by a roid, but a few planets have interdicted me and some Suns too, pulled me out of SC and damaged my hull, they are evil, they can hit your hull even if you have full shields, the Suns are the worst griefers. Throttle to Zero when you jump people or the Sun will grief you.

Yeah I learned that trick when I lagged and damaged my DBS out in the middle of nowhere.

Lol I wish I had a fraction or your IT knowledge (just for the fun value) but I am fine with using the modes as intended as my double nat, Mobius or Solo are my firewall, talking of Mobius, I gotta run, took the nephew to the cinema today (very smart kid and a science / math / physics (including quantum) nut), just got a load of A's and a few A* in his GCSE's and did a Physics A level course for fun last year.

I bought him ED mercenary pack last Xmas (sorry holiday :p), and we got him Thrustmaster Tflight X today for his birthday, same HOTAS I have (he was struggling with KB/M), every time we talked about ED he mentioned he had crashed a lot.

After I setup the bindings for him and gave him a bit of advice he had it mastered in ~30 mins, in the practice missions he took off and landed a few times like a pro, after I said "if your landing gear is down you cant boost, that's the safe way in a station" and he learned to get lined up with the slot, gear up & boost out lol.

He is not into PVP and said he normally prefers solo, I told him about Mobius group, and he put in a request, I am going to PM his name to Mobius, when I joined I think you had to say hi on the forum first.

Catch you all later, I need to go earn a few CR, I gotta buy my boy his first hauler :D.

I feel old :(, it took me a few weeks (after many months with KB/M) to move from KB/M to HOTAS, he did it in 30 minutes!

I think I will tax and insure it for him too, keep him legal & safe ;)

Thrustmaster T-flight HOTAS X is an awesome setup. I use it as well. For the money, it's well worth it- especially if you're not ready to sink $500+ minimum on a decent setup (Warthog, etc.)

It's also highly customizable with the controls, and I've built a custom chair setup to go along with it. The cord between throttle and stick sure could be a tad longer, but if I really get annoyed I suppose I could clip and redo the cabling to extend it. (it's just wiring, after all)

One thing I've envied is the separate hat switches on the Saitek models, would be nice to have one set up for mouselook but thinking of going TrackIR or building one myself until Oculus gets released. (not the dev model but the final) Then I'll most likely get one so I don't have to do the trip monitor setup or any of that either.

One thing's for sure- all of it will come in handy no matter what sim I choose to play- perhaps even Star Citizen if ED doesn't really evolve much by the time it releases...

I think you can use a USB cable to extend it, I have a 2 meter cable on my ED tracker and it works fine.

I have had my T-flight for a long time, good solid stick and map a "shift key" and you have most things covered, I wouldn't have bought one for family if I wasn't happy with it.

Damn it, my nephew has SC, I reminded him last week to logon and update it so I can take a look (he has slow I-net, was having so much fun with ED I forgot to ask him for a SC demo, oh well maybe next time, I am not in a rush, its not like its going to get launched any-time soon.

PowerPlay should only be available to Open Play players

I think PowerPlay mechanics should only be available in Open Play, so that cmdrs of a Faction can actually have the opportunity to successfully defend themselves against aggressors. Merit farming in Private or Solo should not be allowed.

Private Groups and Solo is fine for learning and trading if you wish, rare route running etc. but Powerplay I think is specifically designed towards team play and you can't have team play if you can't see the enemy team.

Just my two cents.

I'm really thinking rid SOLO and make Group/Private a sim. PowerPlay does make changes to systems and keeps us moving around. The more players in OPEN the more life it has. Simply add more time for ship spin to Interdictors and problem solved for fair play with PvP.

I understand what you are saying, personally given up on Power play, though not for these reasons, just doesn't work for me and the time I've had of late, and I am fine with that.

However lets face it, people don't play open, I don't think, not because they might get pvped, but because there are unfortunately a vast amount of people that think that interaction with other players also includes opening fire for no reason, blasting people out of the air for no reason, attacking ships that have no chance against their big ship and so on.

So they go solo or group initially to get away from that and once there, why should they return to open?
Lets face it if people online behaved with a few ounces of respect towards other people, things would be vastly different, but they don't, and I for one don't think people should be forced to have interact with people that just want to kill and hurt others for the lol or similar, so yeah, only ones to blame are those that easily, very easily, could behave just a bit more respectful towards other people, and note, this includes not only attackers but those that for some reason complain about getting attacked when they run away or not interact with a pirate that actually does try to make it an encounter rather then just blast them out of the sky.

Unfortunately, yes. But despite this, I have not encountered too many of these myself so maybe I've been lucky. The majority of players have been fairly decent.

Agreed.

This game is about individual players interacting with the system and having an impact on its development, it does not require interaction with other players. So no this will never happen.

Then they can continue in Solo/Group play. The PowerPlay though seems to me very much aimed at opposing teams. There are no teams if there are no players visible on the field.

I have no qualms with fair PvP. Example, I'm a Patreus pilot, there's a Hudson pilot in my control system... I PvP engage him to stop him from undermining my system. It's a means of defence, and it's a fair action. Whether he is in a Cobra or a Anaconda, he's in hostile territory. Another example happened to me just a few minutes ago. I was carrying fortification supplies in my T-9, a Winters-aligned Vulture interdicted me, scanned my cargo and started attacking. I have nothing against this guy. I escaped, but even if I didn't, I'd not have hard feelings. He is preventing me from fortifying vs his undermining. A fair game move.

If I, however, went over to a starter system and started blowing up some poor newb who is flying a Hauler, that is TOTALLY unacceptable and there should be a way to report these players and get them banned, or better yet, fined significantly.

I quite like that this game allows people to either choose to play in open or isolate themselves, without missing out on any game features. Nobody should be forced into anything, and the only correct way to entice players is with the positives, not by locking out features on them if they choose to play in a particular way. I do realize this has some drawbacks for PP, but imo the benefits to sticking to this philosophy far outweigh the drawbacks.

Imagine locking out some features for solo, and then players who would normally play solo go into open, thinking maybe it won't be that bad. Then someone rams their sidewinder into them while docking for the lulz, and the station blows them apart. That person will likely not be back at all. Unfortunately, you can't completely isolate yourself from the immature kiddies, and ultimately this game is here to entertain, not annoy us. Some players will be willing to put up with it because they find the good stuff about open outweighs the bad. Others will not be so willing to tolerate the bad seed that comes with open. Neither group is wrong and both deserve the full experience for their money.

Therefore the decision to play in solo or open should not be forced by locking out features.

I guess you guys have a point. It's just frustrating that you can't do something as simple as patrolling a control system to protect it because the guys undermining it is in a Pvt Group or solo.
