It goes against the very cruel nature this game strives to achieve . If solo play does need to exist, then there should be more of a risk VS reward for open play.

If you truly want to play alone, you can also do that in open play, It's a big Galaxy !

What an original thought and suggestion...

I'm starting to think I need to go back to posting my wall every few pages again.
Seems like some people just refuse to read the opening post information or any information about the game.

If there was no SOLO Mode, I simply would NOT PLAY. I speak for a lot of people who have had years of dealing with the XBL Rabble and at this point in our lives, WE ARE DONE!

Sorry if you can't handle other gamer's reasons for the way they play their games, but tough doo doo!

If the game was available as an offline game, I would gladly play that instead. I hate having to be tied to the whims of the internet when it comes to when I can play my games of choice and how good they will perform. Sadly, offline, single player is becoming an extinct species in the world of video games and that sucks!

Not all of us are enthralled with online PvP. Some of us find it tedious and annoying beyond words! I am one of those gamers.

I'm baffled. Someone managed to say, in the same post, that Open deserves more rewards for having more risk and that solo is not needed because players can easily avoid everyone else in Open. Usually people avoid arguing both at the same time because, well, the two arguments aren't really compatible :p

My personal opinion is open and solo should be separate universes, each with its own background sim. As a community we are never going to come to an agreement when it comes to solo/open game play. If you want to play solo, play solo. If you want to play open, play in open, but make it a choice, one or the other. Let each mode blaze their own trail.

100 % agree !

I can't believe this thread is still going on. Just give me three commander slots. One for open, solo and group or one for solo and group combined. I'm ok with that. This game series was always a single player game. I bought it thinking I was getting an offline single player game. No, I don't want to start that discussion. It's just if you bought this game, thinking it was really about multiplayer I think you were misled. First off, p2p is not really conducive for this. It works, but not well. Secondly, who would release a game boasting multi-player without even the ability to group up. This wasn't released until 1.2. You have the ability to play with others in this game but it was never truly about that as the typical mechanics just aren't there. Those mechanics may come, but my point is they weren't there from the start, which is kind of odd for a so-called multiplayer game. You can spin it all you want but just look at the proof. I don't mind moving from mode to mode when I feel like it, but I wouldn't care if I couldn't. I don't really think most solo players care to be honest with you. Some will, but most won't. Over the past 5 or 6 days I played in all three of the modes, more for lag issues then anything else. I never saw a commander in any mode that I played in. I don't play PP or take part in community goals so I'm not affecting your efforts any. I'm here to relax and go about my own business. It's a break from people for me. When I want to socialize, I get out of my computer room and socialize in the real world. So after all that, all I wanted to say was, make them separate and it won't matter to most of us solo players anyway.

This, 100% agree. Two saves, one for solo/group, one for open both in // universes.

Do we need just one type of music to listen to? Or should we be allowed to listen to whatever we like?
Do we need just one type of book to read? Or should we be allowed to read whatever we like?
Do we need just one type of food to eat? Or should we be allowed to eat whatever we like?
Do we need just one type of computer game to play? Or should we be allowed to play whatever we like?
Do we need just one way of playing Elite? Or should we be allowed to play however we like?

I vote for the latter option in all areas. I eat meat, which *may* increase a few risks, but I don't run around expecting higher pay.

Cheers, Phos.

So, you want to remove my ability to switch game modes depending on mood/level of drunkeness/etc, and require me to maintain two saves? Sorry, i've only got time for one and have no desire to play two commanders.

By the same token, can I suggest that PvP not be allowed in the game? Because I'm not a fan of it?

Think about it ;)

Yeah me too. Normally they take a couple of posts before they contradict themselves.

Indeed.

However, Frontier chose (over two and a half years ago) to make their game with one single shared galaxy state that every player experiences and affects, regardless of game mode.

They also chose to make a game with three game modes where players are not locked in to a particular play mode and can choose to use the same commander in any game mode on a session by session basis, again this core design feature has been in place for over two and a half years and no amount of debate on the forums has changed Frontier's position on these core design features.

With the recent announcement of the forthcoming Xbox One release we will now share the same single galaxy state with players on another platform - players who we will, in all likelihood, be unable to play with.

With a commitment to a single shared galaxy state that every player affects and the fact that there are players on different platforms that are unable to be opposed it follows that removing the ability for players to change modes would be somewhat redundant.

I have a copy of the Xbox One version as well and have linked my account to it - it will be interesting to find out, this October, if I can use my existing PC commander on the Xbox.

As has been said a thousand times before, no sane person is going to grind out 2 characters. If a player prefers solo they are not going to spend time grinding out a open Cmdr just to give the open boys some fun. You'll lose that player forever, if they change their mind in a few months they'll likely just stop playing the game rather than start again from scratch.. At least with mode switching you have an opportunity for a player to convert.

Be careful what you wish for - if the ability to switch modes were to be removed then you may find that there would be significantly fewer players prepared to be locked in to Open than currently choose to play in Open from time to time.

heh dont afraid coz most players will have better ships in open - there they can play with friends or have some fun - lets be honest ppl go to solo just to do things (trade,PP,or sth else) in easy mode where they cant meet others cmdrs, and when they have more credits than god they appear in open in anaconda full load. I mean ok if they want play solo no problem but why it affect open play world ? Power play or CGs dont have a point anymore other that stacking credits.

edit: about open play - today i had a 4 h session - flying around Patreus main systems and didnt saw a SINGLE patreus cmdr ? and about 30-45 min. was in parteus hq system - so does it work now ?
