I voted no, I like it just the way it is.

I play open 99% of the time, I say hello to every CMDR that I meet (and I see lots of them), and I've only ever had 2 pvp encounters, neither of which resulted in a ship being destroyed.

The trade CGs are magnets for pvp pirates and sociopaths, so if I want to run a blockade I know where to go; if I don't want to, then I know what to avoid. And if I want to play the CG with other CMDRs and no danger from pvp then I know that I can use Mobius.

If it wasn't for pvp in open, I'd have never met CMDR Metta, and a lot of great things in the game wouldn't have occurred (including my Bootlegger Challenge and Black Riband racing events).

So no - love open mode just the way it is. I don't go looking for pvp, but I'm glad that every hollow sensor contact is a potential threat.

<snip>As for Code getting into Moebius, well he decided to run an 11000 person group, it is up to him to vet who he lets in. Either way, i doubt they caused much terror for long :)

Do you know any of the Mobius (correct spelling) members that were attacked? do you understand their motivation for playing in a PVE group? Nah I didn't think so.

You think Mobius vets everyone on a CV?, no he clicks "accept" and hopes we want to play there because of the rules.

Now a PVE option in the menu managed just like Mobius (but with FD running it) would work even better, FD have data, 1 PK instant ban, fine big enough to leave them in a sidey, job done! I bet there will be zero greifers!

"It should be a big enough game for everyone, but sadly this thread is testament that some people want it all their own way, and it does seem that the most vocal of those are players wanting everyone forced into Open."

I want it the way the devs make it, mostly. And I like offering suggestions, and expressing my opinion. I don;t think anyone is forced to play any game, or any game mode. To me it is all choice.

I agree, choice is the thing, and to be clear I wasn't referencing you with the second part of that sentence. If you read back through this and the previous two threads (it's Ok, I'm not suggesting you do it, but feel free) you will see some very unsavory and derogatory language thrown about, particularly by the Open only side referencing Solo and Group players, and you will understand why some regular contributors to this thread are pretty quick to defend the status quo, and to jump in when certain derogatory words or phrases are used, intentionally or otherwise. :)

Nope...by running a peaceful protest to exemplify how many PVE players will play in Open. Any deaths are on the PVP people...no one from the PVE side will fire. We will die at your hands in numbers that will be nothing but an embarassment to those that kill the innocent!

Ah... Ok. You certainly won't be dying at my hands (or lasers), being a committed PvE'er, but you go. ;) Your deaths, I am sure, will not be in vain. :)

OP.. You need to change the poll, I want to vote for Roybe.

If they still allow PK in PvE mode, what is the point then? I thought PvE mode would include no ability to damage another commander. Anyway, good luck with that, I am happy with Open the way it is, as it is not really full of griefers. I never see any. As for knowing the commanders, well no. But just out of interest, what happened? Was it like, prolonged? Or did it just happen once and they got kicked?

Oh I know all about this language, I have been on the receiving end of it though. Just saying, it seems to be on all sides of the debate. Been called many childish names over the last couple of days being active on here. A lot of attempts to shut down the conversation as well, despite this being the appropriate place to discuss it. As for the words I used, well I explained them, if they were not satisfied with my reasons I cannot really say anymore. I don't think I violated the rules here. A thread got locked down today because of all the horrible personal commments made about people who are essentially playing the game in a valid way.

We are getting a slow start..commanders are coming from a bit of a distance to help support this effort...we can wait for more!

Mobius renders this poll unnecessary

Mobius is not a game mode. It is not officially supported. Its a workaround.

I think many are looking to FD for an official position. "Mute" is not a valid position.

Truth is, Open offers little 'friendly interaction other than "Hey I flew past you". This will likely continue through Horizons. Open caters much more willingly (through inaction) to griefers (I'm fine with pirates). The griefers are the ones being anti-social, not the pirates or outfitted-for-trade ships that become prey.

Its hard to undock in a high-end ship, to be rammed to death by some idiot outside - that's not player interaction, that's plain stupidity. "Role-playing a murderer" - what rot. Open should be renamed to "Open to Abuse".

Open just needs more mechanisms by which players can take measures into their own hands - cooperative missions, find-a-player function, players with bounties locked into Open (where they can be found and well, 'harvested'). And a 1 minute wait before logging off, or no log off in combat, to prevent marks from fleeing by combat logging.

Its all just scripting for the bulletin board. The logic is easy to lay out.

Some peeps just want the player interaction without the PvP part. As for mobius, while it is a private group focused upon PvE it's not as advertised. The only people who know about it are forum goers and maybe people who frequent reddit. I suspect if an Open play option with PvE only we're allowed a lot more of the Solo only crowd would probably give it a try. That's just my 2 cents anyways.

Sounds like people need to get more involved in the community. That's part of the complete Elite experience. There's so much going on that isn't right in your face in the game. Players have the ability to shape the Elite universe by getting involved in the forums and such. If they don't want to be a part of it all, let them play solo.

Not true, they can shoot you as well. PvE will be more likely to offer this experience and little more.

I was not aware that "avoid PvP without downsides" was part of the games marketing, along with those other specific claims. I remember it was all "blaze your own trail", and "be a miner, be a trader, be a pirate etc..".
i don't recall for sure, but i strongly suspect that griefer was not on that list of trails to blaze.

as for avoiding PVP without downsides, that mode does not exist.

and your comment on that mode NOT existing would be?

players can avoid PvP without consequences by dropping out of the game and going into solo/private group mode, then going to the station, and popping back up. As you just stated, no consequence. So an extra game-mode seems unneeded.
"DROPPING OUT OF THE GAME", hhmmmm, i guess that tells us what you think of the other modes.

have you ever actually fought NPC's?
stupid question on my part, of course you have, and they are not anything you would consider a "downside".
to me, any opponent is instant death, male female or otherwise. . .

i enjoy euro truck driver 2, and many people that play MMO's see that as an insult to my intelligence.
there are roadways full of hostile NPC's in that game, too much like real life on the road.
i live in a retirement home and one of my neighbors commented on my loud and profane outbursts that they could sometimes hear as they walked past my door.
i told him i had a truck driving game that i play and the the other drivers on the road were VERY realistically simulated. he seemed to understand.

i have this game and i have over four figures of real world cash, and rising (slowly) invested in ships for star citizen.
why do i get involved in these game that many people see as FIGHTING games?
because i see other aspects of these games.

i used to play eve, and had a solo character that bought her own freighter because i did my own mining for the materials that i used for crafting and was doing enough volume that i thought the freighter would be better than many trips in a mastodon.
suicide gankers in jita convinced me otherwise.
i let my eleven year old account with my eleven year old character expire and have not been back.
eve had evolved and the aspects of eve that i enjoyed so much had faded away.

the bottom line is that i can play this game the way it is, i like the three modes and i am hoping that now that i am in the mobius group i can have some meaningful player interaction, and i hope that open PVE becomes a reality.

Come to Hutton Orbital and help us with our protest! Time for everyone to get off the forums, into the game and make a proper stand for PVE IN OPEN! PVP IN CQC!

"griefer" is a subjective term though. I never advocated for griefing anyway, I just do various activities, try and be an all rounder. To get the most out of it I suppose.

" "DROPPING OUT OF THE GAME", hhmmmm, i guess that tells us what you think of the other modes." I think all game modes are equally valid. Even If I thought otherwise, I would be entitled to my opinion :)

"have you ever actually fought NPC's?"

well...yes

"i enjoy euro truck driver 2, and many people that play MMO's see that as an insult to my intelligence"

Nothing wrong with that game at all.

"as for avoiding PVP without downsides, that mode does not exist."

Well, i think it does. I don't see the downside to switching into solo in a pirated system, if a player wants to do it then it is up to them. I tend not to.

Where is "just delete solo/groups" option? ( fix everything option ).

Unfeasible for a number of reasons, some of them legal. For example:

- XBox players that don't have a Live Gold subscription can only play in Solo.
- The game's current PEGI-7 rating requires either Solo being available or else every player interaction inappropriate for a 7-years-old kid to be blocked.
- It is an advertised feature of the game, so removing it might trigger lawsuits for false advertisement.

So then how is option 3 any more "legal" than that one? Tens of thousands have bought the game with that content in place, and it was in place from way back. The same thing would happen.
