Sorry Football is called Football for a reason. It's played with the foot.

:D
Whatever game it is our American cousins play, it is not football. Unless it is the actual 'USA football' team. That other daft game is just run and catch with a spot of bulldog thrown in. I'm damned if I can figure it out. Like almost all American sports, I find them boring. I guess its a cultural thing. Now Motorcycle racing, thats the ticket.

Hey why cant we have space motorbikes? Damn these tin cans.

Since noone else said anything, I'll give my opinion. Tying the bounty to rebuy cost lowers the incentive to go after small ships. A pesky small fast ship like the Cobra won't be worth the effort of attacking in a wing of slow ships. You're also putting a cap on the bounty, which is a stupid idea.

Although 1 mill was just an example, it's too high, way too high. If you make a bounty high noone will pay it, in which case you can't make the game too hard with a bounty. There's also enough accidental murders in the game to make it hell on newbies, or unlucky players. With pp there's also legit reasons to kill or attack a player. Punishing players severely in thoses cases is pretty harsh.

all that said, it's not a bad way to do things, probably better than we have now.

That is exactly the goal. The bounty should be high but only for bigger ships to make hunting smaller ships less 'useful' (to protect noobs). Also remember, the bounty has not to be tied to the ship's rebuy cost ... it was just one example of doing it.

And one million too much? I currently have around 3 million on my head and they will expire after 7 days. this is just pointless. Player boutny hunting has become pointless.
One million credits is, by far, too low.
10 million would make me to jump into a good ship, risking a 1v3.
But one million only? Pah! I get 50 million a wekk, why should I bother?

Suggestion for Frontier: add a mode to CQC where we play football with space bikes :p

(Only half-joking. I bet it could be ridiculously fun, similar to how the most popular PvP mode in TOR is somewhat similar to a Rugby game mixed with combat. Besides, one of the most talked about games in Steam is currently a football game played with rocket-powered cars.)

I get the impression that whether the game being called Football is American Football or Soccer is random in this thread :p

British forum British rules ;)

(We could throw some caid into the mix ;)

PS I am all for any suggestions in the DDF for making the different modes fairer... Just not false boosts and nerfs

I just think what should matter is the crime of your opponent, not what they are flying. A "serial killer" in a Cobra, should be worth just as much as someone with the same amount of kills in a python. But that's just my opinion.

And yes, 1 million per player kill is insane. During the course of my pirating last night, I would have an 11 million credit bounty in Ipilkja (sp?) For only one night of piracy. It would also be unpleasant since it's an imperial system which would ruin my work in powerplay.

Can I ask you something? Why keep you throwing stuff at eachother's heads but won't say anything to an actual (honest) suggestion?

I feel ignored :( :D

i keep bringing up the idea of a letter of marque to be used by legitimate pirates that are actually trying to take your cargo rather than kill you for lulz.
i keep looking at it and trying to figure out what is wrong with my idea.

Not sure if I'm completely following your idea, but what you write here shows a potential issue...

We already have people saying that there should be 'more reward for the risk', and here you have a prime example of how escalation will just cause more division. "One million credits is way too low, if you want me to go catch a bad player, I need 10 million!" Oh, and if you can earn 50 million a week, what makes you think the naughty player can't? So they will just pay off their own bounty, shrug and carry on.

On the subject of players trying to catch and cash in other players bounties, with instancing as it is, with mode switching possible, with the fact that in order to avoid player bounty hunters a person just logs off and goes and does something else for a while, how realistic is it to expect other players to devote their play time to doing this before the complaints come around again saying that it's unfair, that player with bounty was supposed to be in system x, but I couldn't find them... They must have been hiding in solo, cheating, it's not fair (actually they were just in another instance in open, or had logged off and gone to bed...). More calls for nerfing Solo, more accusations of cowardice, and players frustrated that they wasted their play time looking for ghosts.

I really don't see how your suggestion encourages PvP or proves as a disincentive for antisocial PK'ing. I don't think FD want to encourage or discourage PvP, it's just there as an option. They allow illicit and illegal play, they allow and encourage assassination for very shallow RP reasons in missions from the BB, and in Open, they allow players to kill other players. Their solution is to allow players to avoid other players if and when they want. There will always be antisocial people, disruptive people, FD can't easily filter them out of the game.

I remember the idea, i was kinda cool towards it.

Forcing people to jump through hoops and act a certain way isn't exactly an ideal way to go about crime, in a "play your own way" game. That said it's not bad. Maybe instead of a hard stop of pvp, it could just offer incentives for having/keeping a letter.

It almost seems as if .... the momentum has ran out of the subject. :)

Up until the moment new blood comes in and posts "Open should have more reward on account of the risk" of course, then we're back to square one :p

Aye, it normally calms down before another merger.

Wonder what "new" and "interesting" idea will be the next merger - buffing open, locking the modes out from each other or removing one?
Shall we start laying bets now? ;)

thanks for the feedback.
i'll work on it, think about it and maybe come up with something that fits in with the role playing.
i'm not the pirate type, so if i try to see it from that point of view i'm not likely to do a good job of it.

if i come up with something i'll post it again, and i'll try to keep the wording of it to a minimum.
i seem to remember that it came out looking like short story.

thanks again for the critique.

well let's see, they will be telling us that what they are telling us is obvious and should be adopted immediately or the game will fail.

OK Ziggy, you are now officially to blame for the next merge, it would never have happened had you not tempted fate, of that I am sure ;):p:D

Well it would be on topic that's for sure :).

Ahhh well, lets enjoy the calm before the next storm in a teacup.

If you are putting cash on it I will win.

It will be add a PVE mode, how do I know you ask? good question!

Well, I have just written it with a slightly bait'y title and I am about to hit post, followed by report, and I will split the cash 50/50 with the first Mod to move it.

Damn it I meant to keep that a secret until some one agreed to a bet :(

Why did you pick such an easy one, you could have tried harder :).

OK, yes I was going to use that one myself, but that's not the point ;):p:D
