I got distracted and forgot to answer some of you - sorry folks.

We are displeased. Assume the position.

I've got to tell my daughters they cannot play anymore, I'll suffer for that one.... no bacon for me :(
Though my 3yr old is mental, she'd like killing zombies with her mother.
And my 7yr old is a Disney princess fan and animal lover, so princess pets on my phone should quell her temper for a little while.

;)

<reaches for the bucket>

I have serious issues with that particular commandment! I do have a beard though, so #7 is fine! As for #6... <sniggers>

I hope that beard conforms to "real man" standards and not hipster!? ;)

Also, Stephen Fry is a national treasure! And QI is a great show, though I self identify with Alan Davis more than anyone else :p

Open, solo and group modes. Hurrah!

That's the on topic bit out the way.

Now- to these beards. I'm slightly confused, I always thought that hipster beards were anything but a full on proper righteous beard - see Michael Brookes (proper beard).

But, I got the impression that hipsters have now gone down that route too.

Is there now a reliable way to discriminate against a hipster beard!? Was this a cunning plan by the hipsters to swerve ridicule?

Personally I think the "PvP" only players MAY have better luck asking for a locked in "open" mode which shares the same PU as everyone else.... even that would probably be fairly empty imo, but that probably has more chance, and even tho wont tick all their boxes, at least may be some form of compromise.

I'm fairly confident that what you suggest will never happen. I have about 1300 hours in Open and it's where I play, unless I am working away and the hotel wifi can only manage Solo and then I have no choice. If your suggestion were implemented then I would not be able to play the game I paid for. Really? No.

Hipsters and "lumbersexuals" go over the top on products, almost like they just walked out of a L'Oreal advertisement.
So look for the shine (like a healthy dogs coat) and sniff for lavender or some such odor (like a new aged hippy shop).

Also, normally under 35.

As a side note, they are always in open - no point following a fashion and hiding in solo ;)

woah hang on, I am on your side!... sorry if i did not make myself clear.
I too do not think it will happen, and do not even want it to happen, I was just responding to someone saying he wanted a new Openlocked mode complete with its own PU separate from anything else.

I suggested he would have better chance asking for the option to essentially have a private mode which people could voluntarily join into after wiping their CMDR which would then lock their CMDR from playing in any other mode.

Clearly you would not be interested in such a mode, because, like me, you choose to swap modes when needs be, however as an option as an extra mode i see no harm in it in principle. I just felt asking for that was a little more realistic than asking for their own server.

Talking of 'national buffoon' leads me to National Lampoon, and thence to Bored of the Rings - possibly off-topic, but perhaps not!

Look at the size of his chopper!

You seem to be ignoring that something doesn't need to be 100% effective to be effective.

Even if the only different is that a PP player has to be a little bit more careful in carrying out an otherwise non-PvP mission because of the threat of opposing PP players - an effect has been made.

Come on... You've been hanging around this thread long enough to know that's not what they are asking for. ;)

The Open crowd already have what you are suggesting, the possibility to stop other players in Open as an effective tool in PP. What they want is to be able to stop everybody in an Open only environment, and that is removing choice from those who do not wish to PvP, but wish to use the PvE mechanisms available to them to be effective in PP.

Isn't this effectively demanding (suggesting) that Open players play in a way they choose not to? Isn't this a big thing that the anti-open-only crowd are against?

No, it's clearly not.

Open players can absolutely play in Open, nobody is suggesting they shouldn't. Not only that, they can have all the fun they like by opposing Open players from an opposing faction, blockading, chasing, shooting... Nobody has ever suggested they shouldn't. Not only that, but although they rarely acknowledge it, they know that there are lots of other players on their team in Group or Solo mode who are working with them in their cause, and that those players are countering all the Group and Solo players opposing them.

The fact that there's not enough players in Open? Perhaps not that many people want to play Open, who knows, but quite clearly trying to force them will never work, and as has been said over and over and over and... All the people who want to play Open are probably already doing it, so organize yourself (Open advocates) so that you have someone to play with, have fun (it's a game), and stop pestering everyone else to come and play with you. :)

Blackadder.

"BAAAAA!"

(then it all got a bit obnoxious and self-important)

And no, an open-locked mode for the sake of PP players is quite an unnecessary addition. One background sim. Three modes. Everybody's happy. Except those that aren't, dem so crazies.

Four modes if you consider Xbox :p
