Cats made out of Bacon?
Yum.. Er I mean cute.
Cats made out of Bacon?
If they surveyed the playerbase (hey, we could ask admins for a poll), regarding people's need for PvP, i think you might be a little surprised.
Something like:
How important is PvP to your enjoyment of the game?
1) Essential
2) Adds enjoyment and I actively seek it.
3) Its ok, i take it when it happens
4) Not really bothered about it, tend to avoid it.
5) Actively avoid it.
6) I hate PvP.
Ok, now someone can tell me i'm missing a poll option![]()
One of the things that I see is that certain actions in the game become unnecessary because of mode switching. You could still do these things for something to do, but there is no real need. Let me attempt to explain.
I understand this. The need I was referring to was the need to do something to counter such actions. There are always going to be annoying people out there. I like the idea of these being policed somewhat through player actions (I think that was meant to be FDs idea too). But many people will not go out of their way (take themselves away from their trading/whatever) to support a cause like that unless the need builds up to a level where they feel compelled to assist. With the pressure release of Solo, that need never really builds to such levels.
I don't think this has ever worked satisfactorily, in any game. Even EVE has psychic teleporting overpowered police that will in a few seconds destroy anyone that attacks another player in high-security space, and thus takes from the hands of players much of the justice dealing.I believe I read in the early DDs that MB and others expected players to take justice into their own hands. This has not really happened;
This nonsense again. B is not a support for A. Without people arguing against your point this thread would not have existed. If everyone went: yeah, it's going to be PvP, that would be end of thread.
And I still stand behind my belief that FD will build this game for the paying market and to retain market share, not the backers who gave it life.
They can if you are distracted, looking at other targets, unless you are super paranoid and drop out of SC every time you see a hollow blip, but then, what is the point of playing in open if you are going to avoid other players like the plague?
I change mode depending on my mood, level of inebriatedness, and what i'm doing. In open, i've been killed perhaps half a dozen times by other players. All but one of those i had a fighting chance. The others were either death by vastly superior ship (no idea about their skill level, when its sidewinder vs Anaconda, there is barely time to do anything) or where i had tried to start talking to ask what they wanted, and been blown to bits while typing a message.
Its something that turns me off from playing open a bit, but i do prefer to play open when in the mood because i've met a lot of good commanders there and had some good times winging up with people.

Do you really think that the forum readers are so naive that they cannot see the FUD that you are spreading for what it is? It's just so painfully obvious.I return to my point of looking at the future of the game and the direction that I expect it will drift into to retain an active player base.

There is so much of that on both sides here, it's a drop in the bucket.
There'd be a lot less of it if people acknowledged they bought the wrong game.
The Devs wanted the modes, the ability to switch and 1 BGS right from the very start (they advertised it) and have defended it and promoted it.
So clearly a small group of people bought the wrong game as they hate those features that are at the very core of Elite: Dangerous.
Perhaps NMS or SC will be more their thing. They can try EVE free for 30 days or play Star Trek Online completely free.
Lots of space ship games out there, so they are not forced to stay with the one that does not suit them or player needs.
You should probably stop trying to read everyone's minds you are not very good at it.

I was in the eagle right outside of the start system and an orca lined up on me. I thought hehe, he thinks I'm a newb. I had never seen an orca and thought it would be an easy kill as I'm pretty good in even a stock eagle.
I don't see how that is a valid reply to the comment you quoted.
Solos/Privates reply with working as intended.
Its kind of the point though. Solo and group are working as intended. Open I would say also. I've had lots of fun in Open. But there are some that are not happy with how Open works. However, from the posts i have seen on this megathread and elsewhere, it appeats that those who are not happy with how open works, also want to change how everything else works at the moment, which is fine for a large majority of people*. And that i cannot be happy with.
* - Right, i cannot prove that, all i've got are communications with friends, reading forums, and discussions on IRC. But i get around and speak to a wide varity of players, including PvPers.
