That's fine, but why would they pay Gold membership and still have access to essentially impact our stuff if they're entirely isolated? They do not interact with any of the PC/MAC users at all, which I think is a bit silly and doesn't justify them having to pay gold to play in open or in private groups.

they could change to xbox silver and play on solo version ;)

Maybe the fact that many XBox players have XBox Live Gold membership has nothing, whatsoever to do with Elite: Dangerous and everything to do with the fact that they like to play multi-player games on their XBoxes and to do so they require to have XBox Live Gold membership....

They are entirely isolated from us, and can still impact us? There's definitely something not right there. If there was a reason for them to have that Gold membership aside from playing with their own community in Open and private, then I'd be totally fine with it. If they could play with us, even better that would solidify that deal and would make sense. But impacting us while entirely isolated within their own community does not make any sort of sense.

At last a background sim that could possibly pass the Turing test......

They have the Gold membership in order to be able to play WITH EACH OTHER. All the other XBox players play together just as all the PC/Mac players play together. Except those who choose to play Solo for whatever reason (and now there is a new one to throw in the melting pot: they don't want to pay for Live Gold).

TL;DR: They play with each other.

Yes, yes they are and they can - it's part of the core feature of the game that is the single shared galaxy state for all players, on all platforms, in all modes.

As I have said a number of times, to play online multi-player games *at*all* on XBox One requires an XBox Live Gold subscription - it's not something unique to E: D.

And yet, they have the option to influence things like the CG, PP, etc, boy this Intern is going to have a tough time. That's a lot of data.

Also, I feel bad for that poor poor intern that works on manually inputting data into the BGS, PP and other stuff. Rip him.

Who said someone would be specifically paying for Gold due to ED?
Lots of XB users pay for Gold to access online features such as Netflix or Spotify and nothing to do with gaming.

I have an XB and I don't do online gaming on it, I cannot stand the controller. I barley get along with the Kinect and single player games.

The plain and simple truth is, FD gave everyone the choice over who they play with. Just because they can play with you, does not mean they want to play with you.
I'm on PC and I play in a small private group with the rare visit to the Mobius Group thrown in. And as much as I like most of the forum folks I've spoken to, I really have no desire to take time away from my real life friends to play with people I've only either +1 on here, or argued with on here.

Again, FD advertised the idea of modes, sold the idea of modes and Developed the game with those modes. The modes are as much part of the game as the Cobra or Sidewinder is. And that goes for the consoles as well, they get equal access to the same content we get (well, currently they get more as they CQC first. Wonder if planet landings will be PS4 first??).

It's a lot less data than having separate servers for each mode/platform. And you know that the majority of this is automated, right? Like, using computers and stuff?

Oh look at you darling being so condescending!

Edit: Power Play, systems flipping, and some bits of the BGS are manually done by hand.

I was being sarcastic, I wouldn't try to be condescending towards you, I know when I'm outmatched.

Please try not to be....

Note to all: if the standard of behaviour between (some) participants in this thread does not improve rather significantly then the thread will go on a time out for a while.

Also, bear in mind that closing this thread, even temporarily, means that the topic is effectively on hold and that knowingly creating duplicate threads to continue the discussion will result in infractions.

So basically, Xbox One gets to play separately, but still get to essentially impact the PC/MAC version. Haha what aandddd go.

Would it shock you to realize that We would effect them as well? This fair and simple balance across ALL modes.

So shocked! But why not just let us just play with them and make it a giant Open, Solo and Groups thing. It just seems redundant to exclude us and them.
