Modes The Solo vs Open vs Groups Thread - Part the Second [Now With Added Platforms].

I keep seeing that the game's going to be killed by everyone going singleplayer. But if the majority of the playerbase wants to play solo or with friends, I imagine it'd take significantly less resources to cater towards the largest population.

I don't think it'll die. It'll change, for certain, but it won't die. People are playing in solo for a reason, and there's nothing outside of PvP that is compelling for someone to make the switch. I backed this game when it was promising to be a single player game, and I intend to play it as just that. The game supports it, so I'm not cheating, I'm not hurting anyone. I'm just doing my own thing just like everyone else.

Have you even read what i said ? First of all i believe this is the tenth time that i have to explain i dont want Solo removed, but separated from Open. Second of all i did come with suggestions when replying to Robert a few pages ago and from that suggestion it all combusted into this...

You might want solo separated (and what about groups?), but lots of us don't.

Do you understand that?

By "Descended" you obviously understand that this thread is valued at "less than" normal. I precisely said this megathread . The fundamental problem with you merging threads into this one is that there is no public voice.

Sadly the public voice has nothing new to say so it's put in a box with all the other public voices saying the same thing. It's a like a choir. It's just that no-one likes the song.

I have a simple question to solo/group players.

Why do you want to avoid open play so much?

Because I paid for this game to play along side my friends.

I don't know you, you are not one of my friends. So I'm not going to waste my time on you or other people I do not know, nor want to know (no offence).
If I want to make more friends, I'll leave the house and go to a real life social area like a public house, a sporting event or some other local event where I can meet people with the same interests as myself.

I did not pay for this game to be your entertainment.
I did not pay for this game to meet new people, I can go to match.com or eharmony.com for that thanks.
I did not pay for this game to listen to mindless drivel, I have my own children who regularly do that and I get it for free.
I did pay to chill out, with people I know and have a laugh with, because the game said I can play my way - so I am.

I've offered to be Open Mode content, but no one wants to me a "work computer" to run the game on, a copy of ED to play and pay me a wage - until then I only have MY computer, MY game and MY time.
Which I will use how I want within the rules set out by FD.

Can you share with us how you would choose to separate CMDRs, now that 6 months of flexi-play has happened? Surely if all those ill-gotten solo billions come washing into your Open, it will be unfair?

What happens, if after the cataclysm you still find nobody in Open because practically nobody chose Open? You stop playing? What did that prove?

Also, which may or may not be pivotal. How do you think Fdev will handle the mass law-suit under the sale of goods act, et al if they granted your wish?

CQC will attract a lot of players who do not enjoy Open, because when you die in CQC, you lose a bit of face, some bragging rights and others will get medals to go unlock some pixels.

In Open, a Vulture costs about 1 to 2M max insurance. An L9 with 450t of Imperial Slaves costs closer to 15Mcr. The maths doesn't stack up in risk vs reward. The normal follow-up of "Well wing up then", isn't consistent with "play your own way".

...

Dont be such a cowards, train find your ways and give it a chance ;)

Would have been nice if you'd waited for us to answer before you declare us cowards.

I play Solo or Group with a couple of friends for various reasons.

  • I'm an Introvert and social interaction, particularly real-time, drains my energy. Spending time alone regenerates my energy. Playing games is part of my recreation time, a lot of which I want to spend recharging after a day of interacting with people at work (adults and children, I work in a school).
  • I have enough friends.
  • I have low spec hardware (below minimum spec in fact) so I'm at an immediate disadvantage in engagements.
  • I don't want some random gamer dude popping my immersion bubble with some setting-inappropriate chat.
  • I'm not playing the game for a challenge or to test my "skillz", I'm playing it to relax.
  • I didn't buy the game to be the content for other people.

I'm not "avoiding Open" because I'm a coward (although playing a computer is not bravery). I have no fear of being blown up. Many times I've jumped into an SSS for a laugh. I never win and often I die (I only have a Vulture, sometimes I use my Asp or even my Cobra). I shrug it off. It's only pretend money. I'm not doing it because it's "easy" or to get an Anaconda and then jump into Open and kill people. I don't have an Anaconda and I have no desire for one at this time. If I wanted to kill people in Open I would do it now. I don't want to it doesn't interest me.

Mind you, so what if I am a coward or if I want to get a 'Conda and bring it to Open. The game allows me to do that, it's not a cheat or a hack, and it's none of your business how brave I am.

Uuuuu a teacher i suppose ? Might i ask for what subject, just for my knowledge if you wish, because i have a big respect for teachers :D

the rest of the posts? u mean the ones that only open ppl comes and insult ppl? i wonder if they read the forum rules though...

Welcome to our world, where we have to explain the core game design over and over and over.........

:p

I get you guys. But honestly for me you dont have to explain that anymore. I know what they decided to do back then. All im hoping for is a change of heart. It can hapen surely, slim chances but if that is what is going to help this game grow im all for it. Esentially i dont want more PvP or Solo gone. I want more people in Open. More people in Open will mean more people will buy the game to play with those in Open. And so on until there is a solid big playerbase. Right now it kind of is one, but idk how long that will last after some time passes since Summer Sale. Planetary landings and (please fd PLEASE BASE BUILDING :( ) will certainly help also.

Because it would break immersion for a lot of people. How would the game prevent you from engaging me? It would be gamey and out of context. I wouldn't respond to your chat either. And we'd all get more lag. What's the advantage here exactly?

Lord Of The Rings Online [LOTRO] is PVE and allot of fun to interact with other players.
People do get together and go in groups to fight mobs.
I'm rather glad that so few PVP people find the game interesting as the chat is the least hostile I have seen in any MMO.
In fact the chat is quite friendly, unlike any chat I have seen in ANY online game.
And I'm not heavily involved in the chat, i use primarily it to sell things i have collected up, it's just that I notice it scrolling by and not filled with insults and flame wars.

wait did i insult somebody ? Im just talking about my posts and probably SteveLaw's posts. The only thing i did was a "bait post today" for which i got infracted already :p

I'm a Network Manager/IT Support. I have been a teacher but I taught in a primary school so I taught all subjects to 5-11 year olds. Too much homework so I quit. ;) But I've worked in schools ever since. (I've been other things before teaching too, pipefitter, crime data analyst, pizza maker... ;))

Wait, I'm confused. Why do private/solo players care if they impact the open players?

Who said we do? But I would miss it if Open players stopped influencing the galaxy because it make it less dynamic. I don't want to be able to fully control what happens in a system I only want to be able to influence it. I'm a pilot not a president. Also if the Solo galaxy was separate to the open galaxy you discourage players from moving between them. There would be more cost and GalNet would read like a play your own adventure book.

If Sol is still controlled by the Federation, click here. If Sol was taken over by the Empire, click here and if Sol was swallowed by a giant Thargoid queen, click here...

Simple question, simple answer: I prefer single player games. The game that I have the most time in to day is Skyrim.

Isn't it exciting you can be interdicted by somoone with real IQ than n stupid NPC's? Can't you find a way to avoid being killed, i.e. try a bit RPG with your opponents? Try to find a way to escpase from real trouble, other then switching into solo? Isn't it fun to mąkę friebds with other cmdr's try to organize and nich those Pirates?
No, I don't find it exciting at all. Tedious would be a much better, and more descriptive word to describe my point of view of being interdicted by a player. Sure, I could try to find a way to escape, fight, etc, but it's all starting to sound like work instead of relaxing game play. Not my cup of tea.
give it a chance ;)
You're assuming (erroneously) that I and other solo players have not. I have, didn't like it, end of story.

See, this is where you contradict yourself. "you dont have to explain that anymore." despite knowing that for over two (2) years and as recently as last week FD clearly stated the modes are not going to change, then say you're "hoping for a change of heart".
You obviously don't understand at all, the game was funded, in Kickstarter by people who liked and wanted "Selective Multiplayer".

As for people leaving Open, it was busy enough last time I used that mode. Perhaps you're looking in the wrong places.
Last Saturday I loaded Open by mistake, I knew what I'd done by how many people were working out of the HQ for Asling Duval.
From what I gather, the Alliance has not been that popular. So hanging around there you may not see so many. Try Fed space or one of the Duvals in Empire, they seem to be quite busy.

Never ever I have logged a minute into solo or group play. In my humble opinion it is cheating, No matter what ppl say.
a
In my humble opinion, onions are exactly the same thing as tomatoes. However, the facts and my opinion don't seem to be in line. Likewise, cheating is easily defined, and solo play doesn't meet any definition of cheating, so...

Yes because they so obviously care what the kickstarters wanted and never changed any element of it whatsoever -_-

That being said they won't change it, though I think they would if they could its just such a mess by now their only option is to leave it.
