From what I read, some do it purely to grind cash! It's a cash-cow, in some ways!Hrm? Don't explorers explore because they find it fun?
There is no right way to play ED - except for the way FD want you to play!

Yes they do!Hrm? Don't explorers explore because they find it fun?
It's a cash cow in the sense that when you cash it in after a month or two of playing you suddenly have 60m in your pocket.
Hmm... I reckon the most common complaint about modes is the ability to switch between them at will.
I must admit, the original proposal's suggestion of only switching at stations seemed preferable to me.
Some explore, some simply honk, scoop, and jump! From what I've read, anyway - I ain't an explorer by any means.Exploring, Cash Cow !?!?!?
I can't find a link - which is odd, as I only re-read it the other day (I think). Was "only switching at stations" in the original design?

I crossed explorer off my list when it became apparent that one could reach gal-centre within a dozen hours or so!
And Frontier won't comment on it. As they know exactly how that will go.
If they add a true Open PvE mode, it will out shine the Mobius group within a week - which will cause a certain sub set of players to scream and shout even harder than they all ready are.
By leaving the community to create an open PvE mode via a member of the community (Mobius), it is not FDs "fault" that players choose not to PvP.

At times, the damn forum search does my head in! <howls>
You hit that nail square on.
If there was a PVE option in the menu, Open would likely lose more players than when CQC releases on the PC.
My lord, I can't wait until the "everyone should be in Open" gang start fighting with the "CQC" gang, I will reserve a front row seat for that discussion, if anyone spots that argument starting please PM me, I need to stock up on popcorn.
Question? is CQC not like switching to a sidey to give a mate your bounty, e.g. getting a kill with no risk? I hope they prevent credit farming as I believe they have stated you can transfer credits from CQC into the game.
/s I really hope people can't play in CQC easy mode until they get a Conda and come into Open to gank & troll people who "earned their ships the right way!" .... /s
Because... I would know that's how they earned their ship due to ?!.?!/. the colour? Oh no I will never know if CMDR x earned 32% of his Conda in Open or 96%, to me it doesn't matter, guess I am to busy having fun.
I'm getting tired of seeing this repeated over and over. That is why we have Mobius 10000 strong and growing.
I'm getting tired of seeing this repeated over and over.
I've gone into the Mobius player list many, many times and find half of them are playing in <gasp> OPEN!
A quarter are in SOLO, the rest in Mobius or another PRIVATE GROUP.
I spent an entire day in Mobius going from Harma to Leesti and back several times taking different routes each time and only encountered a single player.
Mobius is just SOLO with a slight chance of PRIVATE GROUP.
The only solution is to have 2 separate background sims - one dedicated to SOLO & PRIVATE GROUP and another one dedicated to OPEN.
Period. End of list.
Yea, but that's never going to happen.I'm getting tired of seeing this repeated over and over.

Is this MMO-style a new direction for Elite: Dangerous? Or will you be still focussing on the single player immersive experience, even if that single player is playing in a universe filled with other players?
Thank's very much to you and the FDev team for all of your efforts. One or two subjective niggles of mine aside the game is the one I've been waiting for for years and I'm totally enamoured with it.
We are supporting multiplayer and the solo experience. Community Goals are carrying on too.
On that last point, Producer Ben Dowie reiterated that Xbox One and PC players won’t be playing head-to-head—although they’ll be playing in the same simulated universe, they’ll never encounter each other in space, likely because Microsoft’s Xbox patch cycle adds complexity to Frontier’s game update procedure. This means that PC players and Xbox players will often wind up on different clients, which means no head-to-head play. To that end, anticipated PC-centric features will likely land on PC first.
I pointed out that there’s frequent contention online about the “right” way to play, be it casual or hard-core, and Braben agreed. “But there shouldn’t be a ‘right’ way,” he said. “You should do what makes you excited. I don’t want there to be a ‘right’ way, because then you’re not necessarily playing the way you want to play. And people have come up with lots of suggestions, some of them very constructive and sensible, and we do listen, and people hopefully have seen that we’ve changed things and adjusted things, but not in a way—we hope!—to upset people. We’re doing it to make the game better!”
They need to be.
Look at the current posts on the subreddit and the forum. Your core player base is simply stopping playing. You might be selling copies but if your core community is splitting or stopping playing then you have a problem.
Hey Fred,
I wanted to reply to this honestly if I may.
I'm not going to be talking about active player numbers explicitally but I can tell you without question that the game has a very healthy and thriving community who enjoys hours upon hours of Elite. You really don't need to worry on that point.

According to some members of the community, Solo players should have a limited or no effect on Powerplay - or, alternatively, playing in Open should offer Powerplay bonuses. Is this something you are considering?
No. For us Solo, Groups and Open are all valid and equal ways to play the game.
From the initial inception of the game we have considered all play modes are equally valid choices. While we are aware that some players disagree, this hasn't changed for us.

The only solution...
...to what problem exactly?
The only solution to weight loss? The only solution to ants in my <bleep> lawn AGAIN? The only solution to why my new boots don't zip up over my calves when last week they did and I totally didn't over eat last weekend?
We can't even agree on there being a problem, let alone on what the problem actually is. I think that's probably more important to resolve before we swing solutions around.
(But if anyone can answer my points I would be SO grateful).
