Modes The Solo vs Open vs Groups Thread - Part the Second [Now With Added Platforms].

Personally I don't like being told I should be forced to have to play the game with others or on my own for that matter. If there was a forced choice I'd never have paid $150 for the beta and would have dismissed the game without playing it. As it is I mostly play in a PvE group since it feels a lot more in spirit with the games I grew up with and loved. The ones that brought me here. But I do like being able to switch to solo. Especially when a system is crowded and things like docking become a nuisance. Not being a very social gamer I dislike small talk with strangers which is where solo comes in handy for those times you want to play alone and be able to quit on a whim without having to explain yourself.

The game was designed to work this way and let you play how you want. I don't care for PvP. I'll go and play War Thunder with a joystick for that. Much more challenging than ED, especially with the bugged joystick controls. So it's not about wanting it easy and cheating. It's just the kind of gameplay I'm looking for isn't a competitive one in ED. The game is too long and drawn out to be a good PvP game for me.

I've been to outfitters all over the populated galaxy and I still haven't found the scanner that tells you which mode the CMDR earned their credits in :/ Must be a Founder's perk?

It's called "I-scanners." When deployed, only "I" am right, and everybody else scanned turned up negative. And.... Whatever I don't like show up false on the scan thus completely ignored, which, BTW, affects Google search results as well, and the sides of cereal boxes.

It's a Thargoid technology. You are either born with it, or you are implanted at very young age. You can't buy it at an outfitter.

so u want to have disabled a SALE core mechanic for pp...lol specially when PP doesnt even have chat option for the powers....nice ....u see the tree but u miss big time the forrest;)

You do not need to tell me this stuff, I understand the kickstarter promises perfectly well.

You also miss my point by a mile too. I said that I thought PP was better played in open, but that I also understood it could not be changed.

I'm starting to understand why this thread has gone on so long.....

Wasn't it counting all times a player enters the system, though? As in, a trader does ten trade runs between two systems, he will be counted as ten ships on each systems?

Legit question, BTW. I remember seeing something of the kind, but I can't for the life of me remember if it was a true fact or a debunked one.

I believe that is correct. It's the amount of times a ship has passed through, not the number of different CMDRs.

It's easy to say...

If someone decides to play Solo to earn Money and come into Open to kick Players-Asses with his Anaconda...than i can say, that IT is bull.

Hmm. if you're getting your ass kicked by a Solo player finally venturing into Open, in any kind of ship, you might want to consider Solo! ;)

Good for you. I truly mean that. Enjoy solo/group.

Thanks. Unfortunately, this is not at all what you are implying with your postings in this thread.

You throw around words like (and I am quoting you here) "hide" "scared" "privileged" "unfair"
"cowards" "cheating" "neurosis" "lame" "perverting" "easy" "crying" "insane" "cowardice" "less of a threat" and my personal favorite, "invisibility cheats" which caused me to laugh so hard, the cat napping in my lap got woken up and expressed her unhappiness at me.

Let's take another "position" you take often: that somehow, somewhere, a solo player is cheating on you. So do you really mean

?

I do enjoy solo, a lot. It's why I bought the game. You seem to think it's "unfair" somehow, or that solo players are undermining your efforts in the political arena. It's been stated many times in this, and the other Mk I thread.

Let's take two players, one in solo and another in open. Where do they get their information about systems under contention, the movements of other Powers and so on? They get the info in the same places; GalNet, the Galaxy Map and forums. How does it come about that solo players are somehow having the jump on you? Your information is the same. I can only think about something Jockey posted; you want to somehow blockade a system. Sadly, you couldn't do that in open OR solo because of the game mechanics.

What's showing up in your posts over and over is the attitude that many players wish to avoid, and why they play solo.

Here's some more "arguments" from Open players this thread:

"screws other players over who value fair play" - lulz
"They are doing CG/PP and I can't shoot them to stop them" - OIC. Paranoia
"Frontier doesn't like PvP play. People who play PvP are bad."- wow, I mean, just wow.
"people who aren't good in competing" - maybe they compete in a different way hmm?
"the thread is controlled by the solo/group players" - moar lulz

"ganking and switching to solo so they don't have to fear any consequences" usually it's vice versa

" I am just asking for a seperate pvp-hardcore server,
And then the PvP server can have things like corps and guilds" Just too much lolz for words.

What I don't understand is that if the game irritates you so much, or you aren't happy with the gameplay, why do you play? If that was me, I'd quit; I wouldn't spend my time trying to strongarm FD, which is what all your "requests" really come down to.

<sniggers> Welcome to the asylum!

Really this discussion is pointless because well there is only a few different arguments either side puts forward. I tread this thread more as a place to chat with some old friends than a place to bring anything of value to...

The fun bit is seeing a new person get involved (like we all were once) and depending on which side they are on getting the usual responses..

*Slow Clap and Salute* Brilliant, utterly brilliant

True.. I also like it when the Mods just throw some random thread- posts in here so as you are looking through the thread it all goes haywire until you realise what has happened..

But that is exactly what I don't want. I want the good old UO hardcore felucca experience and no PvP gimmick.

Really looks like you didn't do much research on the game. You want it to be like another game, but it isn't. There's still lots of UO servers still running. Maybe you'd be happier there...

... Then why did you purchase a game whose main dev had specifically said, multiple times, that players were able to freely choose who was allowed to meet them? A game that is even sold as a single-player game on Steam?

The fact it's nothing like 'good' old UO hardcore Felucca is, for many players, a good part of why they even purchased ED. 'Good' between quotation marks because, for many, the old UO from before Trammel was anything but; according to a dev, over 70% of the players that purchased the game left within the first two months, a catastrophic number that only fell to a workable level after Trammel was added.

UO at first sucked because it was rife with PKers, camping the newbie areas, releasing dragons in towns, whole bunch of stupid crap .
