I hope you use "you" as a plural because he is not alone here. Just go on any other forum or Reddit or Youtube or any comments section that is not moderated like this one is. You will understand how many people simply never wish to play the game again and think they wasted their money here.

Go count them for us will you? There's a good chap.

Who please point me to WHO is saying Solo/Groups should go away. Honestly we should all ignore this comments from now on. Nobody is asking for Solo gone. All I see is split them or make Open more meaningful. Nobody is asking for Solo gone.

Splitting the modes would still be removing the freedom of choice that each player has as to which mode to play in on a session-by-session basis with the same commander as we can now.

They are so meaningfull that barely anyone plays open anymore ;)

I play mainly in open these days. No idea what you are talking about. Most people on my friend list play in open.

Hmm... perhaps you are lacking in-game friends to see all the people playing in open.

Perhaps I didn't make it clear enough - I meant being able to switch using my current commander with it's assets instantly which is why I used the word switch.

Yeah if i ever met one that wont blast me away maybe i'd make some friends....

I didn't say ed is failing. Only that you can assume that the multiplayer part (open) might be failing when there is barely no one around in open. Let me show you this on battlefield as example. Xx copies sold, but 80% stick to play campaign only. You could call mp a fail.
And it is not just me who doesn't like current conditions. There are many more that either stopped discussing here or just don't say anything.

I can see that you are already getting a lot of counter argument over this opinion already but I would just add that you seem to assume that if the game was altered to either prevent mode switching or make players use open mode they would ? I don't think that would be the case, more likely people would reduce the amount of time they play or not play at all. I would not play ED if they dropped the current setup because it was a feature that attracted me to it in the first place. I still feel that the future of open is about making it a game mode more people want to play in, trying to make them do it just isn't going to work.

First off, open isn't the only multiplayer part. Both group, which has direct multiplayer, and solo, which has indirect multiplayer (we all affect the same galaxy). If you want to say open is failing because your not seeing enough players, I could see your point, but wouldn't agree. Neither MP or open mean PvP. Your idea of PvP might be failing, but since direct(pew, pew) PvP wasn't one of the major goals for the game, that's fine. Direct PvP is supposed to be "rare and meaningful". Since Frontier haven't defined either of these terms for this game, it is up to them to decide whether or not it is happening, and make changes as needed.

Well, Iv'e always surmised this game needed the 4? large investors, besides the 'Kickstarter' to get underway. DB had to include multiplayer to get those investors. The game of course should have been only Solo/Co-op.

This idea from some one that doesn't know anything about this...

That is how I know, the top 17 people who post, only 3 are pro open.
Based on the number of threads created and merged here, the rep's on my posts and the number of common opinions out of in game talk there are more than just the 3 voices you mention. I could also ask you to prove me that it is not just the bunch of you guys that is against my opinion because I can count just a couple here that are against me. There are hundreds of thousands that are not even aware of such a discussion going on.

And of course this is the point; You can't make people play a mode they don't want to. +1

I was addressing rckstrt directly but in this context, 'you' would apply to a subsection of open players that want to force everyone to play their way.

This is a long thread, search it for instances where that subsection of players have called for solo to be removed, prevent mode switching, or separate galaxies. The answer is still the same. FD said no.

There are a lot of players that play open and are quite happy with it. Good luck to them, I'm glad they bought a game they enjoy playing and I hope they have many happy years as Elite players. Then there are those that are not happy with the game, those that rather than moving on and accepting that, you know what, I made a bad buy there. They try to ruining everyone else's experience with the game and get them to change for their own selfish needs.

I don't see why I should change my gaming style to accommodate someone who didn't do even a basic search before buying it.

How about the Mobius forum, that has over 2000 members all happy with the current system?
or the 9700+ members in the group who are happy with the mode system.

Mobius started growing at around 1000 members per month - they are quite enjoying the ability to use what ever mode they want, when they want.
Or some just use the Mobius group and enjoy a game with only consensual PvP.

Thank you sir!

I still feel that the future of open is about making it a game mode more people want to play in, trying to make them do it just isn't going to work.

I share this opinion (even though I play mostly in Open). Encouragement to play in Open might be effective (how to achieve this without taking away from those in Solo / Private Groups may be the difficult bit), force is something else again - the old phrase "you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink" springs to mind.

If I was forced to play in Open (bearing in mind that I do mostly) I would not be happy - being locked into a mode is very different from choosing to be there - so I would probably play far away from any of the Powers.... While Frontier, technically, *could* lock all players in Open, no-one can force anyone to actually play the game.

If I had to select a single mode to play in, of the three, I would select Private Groups as they provide both solo play (personal Private Group), group play (obviously) and I would expect that a pseudo-Open Private Group would be created (a quick-join Private Group) that any of the players who had also chosen to be locked into Private Groups could access on a session-by-session basis.

It would be interesting indeed to know how many players would elect to be locked into Open (but we'll probably never know for two reasons: it is extremely unlikely to happen as DBOBE's opinion is that "there is no 'right' way to play the game" and also, Frontier don't release statistics regarding the population of game modes).

While I agree with your statement I can't help but point out that one forum goer recently posted a dev video where DBOBE stated he didnt' want the professions to be unbalanced so that everyone ends up doing one, I think taking his words like the ten commandments probably isn't the best idea :p as he he's either making it up because he thinks its what we want to hear, or he hopelessly missed the mark (about professions not there is no right way to play)

I see your point but would suggest that it is *much* easier to support there being "no right way to play" than it would be to balance professions. The latter would seem to be an impossible task as there are a huge number of permutations of role / ship / modules / weapons / etc. - balancing the roles in one ship would be difficult enough....
