Every other thread I look at lately seems to turn into a Solo/Group/Open debate.
I noticed. Robert must be working overtime on merges...

Anyway, like I said before, I think people should be allowed to play how they want, open or solo.
I just don't think it right that people that ride bikes downhill compete for the same medals that people that ride bikes uphill. For the rest, I have absolutely no beef with any of the modes.
I'm sorry but only someone who lives with their head buried in sand could claim that data showing a 50% peak user drop on the most widely used PC gaming portal is irrelevant.
It depends if you see CGs as competitive or cooperative. CG = Community Goal. A goal for the whole community. A shared goal for the whole community. If the community does well - meets the requirements of higher tiers - then the rewards are greater for everyone who takes part. The couple of CGs that I took part in I was grateful that other players were grinding away more than me. I'm not a grinder, I get bored with it, so left to me the Community Goal would not have been met, the rewards for everyone would have been lower and the story would not have concluded.
If players were not grinding away "downhill" in Solo then the Empire may not have completed enough of the CG to reveal who poisoned the Emperor, for example. If more players had been grinding away in all modes, then we may have learned more about the President's mis-jump.
Everyone who works on a Community Goal adds value to everyone else's reward.
Conversely if everyone had to do it in Open with other players blockading then even if you finished in a higher reward tier, chances are you would actually end up with a smaller reward because fewer players contributed to the goal.
Look at it like that.
Have you added a post to the Vox Populi thread? It was created seeking player opinions on just this topic.
Because NPCs dont bounty-hunt so do not affect bounty-hunting CGs, nor do they congregate massively in CG areas, and NPC pirates are easy to escape / destroy compared to human pirates. So it ins't really comparable.

You are correct, and let me say that I by no means want to create some kind of open vs solo flame war.
One of the greatest experiences in Elite that I had were some CGs where i could just sit in the station landing pad and chat with fellow cmdrs, exchanging tips, locations of goods, locations of RES, etc. That alone makes open worthwhile, but like I said I respect the wish of the players who prefer solo.

I guess I am too late as the thread is now locked, but thx anyway for the suggestion!

Yay a Mobius..
Not a part to QQ about the time I injected a little excitement into your group.
Just because you choose to only play part of the game doesn't mean the whole game should suffer.
This thread is about Open vs Solo. Mobius is a good as solo because of your ban on danger.
Then the rest of the game needs some real content, not the A-B grind we currently have.
YES I killed players in Mobius, It was glorious, I had a lot of fun,
It was the single most exciting thing to ever happen to your group.
Have you actually bothered to look at the numbers there? Plus 21% in the last month? With peak and average players almost as high as after the Steam release?Take a look at this http://steamcharts.com/app/359320#All
If you thing playing in solo is easier, then play in solo. It's your choice. Complaining that the choice you made is harder then the choice someone else made seams kind of pointless. The only difference between solo and open is other players (direct player interaction). If you don't want player interaction because you make less money, or merits, or whatever your goal is, don't play in open. It's that simple. I you want to see other players, then join a group. I don't understand why this is so difficult for others to understand.

But I want player interaction, and I like increased difficulty. I like the risk of being attacked, I like having to mind my routes, having to mind my scanner, having to fight for my ship, and sometimes having to run away. I like chatting with other players on stations, and I like seeing other players flying in space.
I don't see where in any of my posts you got the message that I am complaining about the difficulty of the mode i've chosen to play.
For "open to survive" it needs more Jordan Cobalts and less Majinvash.
Complaining that a mode, other than your preferred mode, is easier, in your opinion, is the same as complaining about the relative difficulty of the mode that you choose to play in.
Since my original post was deleted because the moderator felt it was wrong, I guess I will do it this way.

Who/what was harassing you? Not to name and shame, but was it NPC's or players? What system were you in? There are plenty of players out there looking for a good fight!
