I'm not sure I'd describe it as a hotly debated topic either - rather, FD have stated their position and the same small group of people continue to whine about pesky solo / group mode player messing up their game.

So it's the same small group of people making random threads that get merged? Hmmmm:rolleyes:

Hello everyone.

I have played the original Elite and could not wait to play Elite Dangerous and it is awesome! However, there is 1 game breaking element that needs to be addressed.

I think that the Open Play and Solo play must be separated. The galaxy status "should not be shared" with Xbox One players and Solo players.
Solo players should be happy playing "Solo". That is there should be a separate accounts of credits for Open Play and Solo Play. Example". I am a pirate and I am hunting down trading ships. Trading ship exits the game and switches to Solo, he just "escaped" from me. Example 2. I am a bounty hunter. I am chasing after a Pirate. A pirate switches to Solo and is "safe" from me. Example 3. I am a trader. I can go anywhere I want safely in Solo as long as I can handle AI pirates, which is very easy. Example 4. I am a trader playing only in Open and trying to make a living evading human and NPC pirates. Another trader plays in Solo and we share the same trade route. The trader in Solo will make much more money than the Open world trader because he does not have to worry about human pilots. However, at the end of the day, the Solo trader depletes the resources for the Open Trader. How is it fair or fun? It is either Solo or Open World for everyone. Those 2 worlds must be separated!

I am not ashamed to admit that I switched to "solo" as a trader to ditch my shields in Type 9 and haul more cargo. I do not have to worry about human pilots. When I have $320 MIL for a fully outfitted Python , I will switch back to "Open" and hunt some pirates. When my money will be low, I will jump back into my Type 9 and switch to "solo" and make some quick and easy cash fast! Why would I be trading in the "open" in Type 9?

Frontier - please do something about it. Separate Solo from the Open and have people enjoy the game one way or another - 2 separate save files. 2 separate galaxy states. Solo players should not affect the state of the "Open" state galaxy , especially when it comes down to commodities.

If they force people in to open play or give bonuses for it, all that will happen is people start blocking/firewalling P2P traffic while in open. So you won't be able to enter their session (this works I tried it), but still get the benefits from it.

It is the way it is by design. If you don't like it, well to bad really :)

I would consider that an exploit and I'm fairly sure that there are methods to codewise check if ports are open and flag the session as Solo Play if not.

So what I propose is this:

1/ Keep the effect on influence or community goals for solo/group players the same but introduce a new game mechanic where Cmdrs who persistently play in Open, over time will gradually receive a bonus multiplier to the effects their actions have on influence or community goals above the standard rate, up to a maximum of x 2.

2/ The bonus multiplier will slowly increase from x 1.0 to x 2.0 depending on how many hours the Cmdr has persistently played in Open play (not counting time when docked or where idle in space for more than 5 mins to avoid station/space idling exploiting). Ie it might take 10 hours of open play to increase the bonus multiplier from the standard x 1.0 to x 1.1 and so on up to 100 hours of open play needed to reach the maximum x 2.0 bonus.

3/ The bonus is reset back to x 1.0 if the Cmdr at any point logs in to Solo or Group mode.

.

See page one post one of the solo v open mega thread. Your proposals have already been rejected by FD.

Then that's the ANSWER , or the question..WHY don't we have two,or multi character saves for this game?

Because FD wants players to feel the sting of the consequences of their actions in the game. Otherwise you could create a character designed for pure ganking of noobs, and a legit trader.

Of course, the fact that they're trying to sit on two chairs at once kinda throws a wrench in those gears, since allowing to switch modes at will and log off during combat pretty much leaves any consequences at the players discretion. If you don't want to, you literally cannot be destroyed in this game.

I would consider that an exploit and I'm fairly sure that there are methods to codewise check if ports are open and flag the session as Solo Play if not.

It's not the ports. Install an IP blocker program and it will reject incoming connections that are not on a white list and you will only ever have to deal with players who have those IPs, anyone else simply can't connect to you. No way to check if IPs are being blocked because there is no central server to monitor P2P connections. Dunno, maybe have the client report if an attempted P2P connection was refused, but there could be other reasons for that and it all comes down to statistics.

Which means FD would have to act on unsubstantiated evidence. The same problem as with combat logging, really. Hard to track things when you have nothing to track them with.

Solo play cheating?

From a point of view of the safest way to earn CR trading or rares running, going solo would make 100% sense, but I cannot bring myself to play in solo as it feels like almost no risk cheating. Anyone else feel the same?

This subject comes up a lot in this forum so you may find the replies you get verge on the grumpy side but to tackle the topic in another way, consider the following...
-
Try flying into a High Intensity Warzone or Large Signal Source in Solo and come back and tell me how much easier it was for you....
