Modes The Solo vs Open vs Groups Thread [See new thread]

It'll be a rare occurrence. There are always going to be players who do things like this. It's the equivalent of saying why "have money in the game if there are going to be credit sellers?" in some respects.

It's a completely hypothetical though since fd will never separate the modes and if they did for somethings it would pretty much be a non issue.

I didn't say separate the modes, I said separate the leaderboards. I think that's potentially workable. They will most likely never lock the modes, no, thank heavens.

Ok this is a monstrous thread, and I don't know if this was mentioned or not, but just today I was watching a streamer play elite and he was doing the Conflict zone in BV, and he was having a good ol time flying around and hunting all sorts of big ships and cashing in the vouchers at about a million at a time, watching his rating go up to top 15% and talking about his rewards. So I think, this looks fun and I log in and try to do the same thing in the same ship. But I always play in open, and in open there are dozens of commanders all fighting in the same place for the same vouchers. I'm lucky to get 100k for my work. It is literally impossible for me to be competitive in the same ship with the same weapons as the streamer because I am in open and he is in solo. I don't think this is right and I think it gives an unfair advantage to the solo/group player vs the open player when it comes to getting vouchers and influencing an event. If I really want to rack up the vouchers and contribute I have to switch to solo and then I can have all the ships to myself. Unfortunately I don't ever plan to play in anything but open for 100% of my playtime here (its a personal decision and I won't go into details due to the rules on this thread) However it just doesn't seem right to me, and I think its easy to see how this could be an issue for myself and others. I am particularly concerned that I may not be as effective when powerplay lands as well, and that is something I am very much looking forward to being a part of.

Apologies if this has been mentioned in the thread a lot before, I didn't read the whole 540+ pages, and besides this is my personal experience.

Rough summary.
You saw someone having a lot of fun in the game and thought I'd like to have as much fun as that.
But you didn't, so rather than switch modes, you decided that the other players fun should be minimised to fall inline with your playing style.

that about it?

Nah, we debated this for a few pages. The crux of the matter is no mode should have an advantage over the other. When it comes to community goals solo/group have a clear advantage over open.

All people are asking for on the CG front is a way to make them viable in open.

It's not as simple as having an "advantage" that's where you start to create division. Just say the CGs have a very different dynamic across the different modes so it would be more meaningful to have three sets of leaderboards, one for each mode.

Genuine question, what precisely is this advantage ?

I think, to summarise, less competition. In Open players actively work against each other or steal each other's kills, etc.. (This purely about Community Goals, not general play or Powerplay, they can keep their hands off those. ;))

Wouldn't just tweak the spawn rate of the enemies be enough ? Make enemies spawn when the number of enemies in the area goes below a certain threshold ?

They also blockade systems, preventing other CMDRs delivering goods. Some players just switch modes to avoid it.

Read the link in my previous post. It's not just down to spawn rate either. If it was as simple as "make sure there's 10 ships for each cmdr" it would turn in to a lag fest real quick the more cmdrs you had in an instance.

But this is where the matchmaker can be set to only allow a set number in a CZ - after all, it is set for 32 at the moment for any instance, why not just have it set to say 10 in CZ and tweak the spawns in Open mode.

Reduces lag and fighting over kills - removes any "advantage" in solo CZ (as I never run out of spawns anyway in a CZ when solo or with just 1 or 2 friends).

As for avoiding blockades - that is by design. It was covered in a Video somewhere, that players can avoid player blockades - but FD do one, no one can avoid it......

about now, like magic, Robert will pop up with where ever that came from ;)

Why not increase the rewards for playing in wings? This way you encourage interaction too, while making it more viable.

Well, as and when Solo get NPC wingmen maybe - but atm Winds is something Solo doesn't have, so it would be classed as an "advantage" - something we are trying to avoid.

NICE ONE LESTENIO!! That's hitting the nail right on the head!

Look here's how I understand one of the issues. Solo & Group Players like their style and can maximize profits. Since most of the people playing there, (except the perceived cheaters that like playing there, so they can go back and PVP when their ready). So they can have there cake and eat it too.

The open player, Feels like the Solo & Group players should have something very important in their mode to make the Solo & Group players really have a necessity to go there to accomplish some necessary task, (you know I'm not sure this would be a bad thing, probably shut up a lot of the whiners so we can get on with the game. Just a thought, Community goals aren't ever going to work for me, I could give a Rats _ss). Plus they get to shoot at you while your there.

Open players feel like the game is structured to, "FORCE" them to play solo just to level up with earnings. Maybe, I'm having a bit of a hard problem buying this, IE why couldn't they just move to a quite system to level up. Then there is the time it takes to do that. Meh.

I'm sorry if I offended you yesterday, "Distance", I actually have no I'll will, have a little rep. I don't like "The REDDIT forums" any more than I like the EVE forums, very close to being one in the same, unless something magically has changed in (3) years. Like I said my sincere apology's. Let me say this though, "I could care less about the CG's", take them and put them in "PVP all" and leave them there. I don't think the other modes need them, or want them.

Now how could this drop from first page? ;)

Back to the discussion...

To be honest... don't like the idea.
Taken from Lugh event, the CZ were already dominated by wings (on both sides).
So "loners" trying to play in open already got punished.
I think it would just lead to more people switching to solo.

People flying alone (even in open) might do it on purpose.
