Oh, better get this in before the lock.

Open apology to any and all members of this thread.

To anyone I may have upset, offended or insulted in the process of posting in this thread, I Jockey79 hereby apologise for any hurt feelings, traumatic experiences or triggering emotions I may have caused you. It was never my intent to hurt anyones feelings. I deeply respect all forum members and am reminded that together we are still a minority within the game in general - without you folks, I'd be talking to myself (probably from a rubber room by now).

There we go. Happy New Ye.... Thread Day ;)

Nope. I let Karma take care of these types of issues.

How many mods are riding F5 waiting for the honour? :)

All of them.

For traders, the most obvious is cargo insurance.

Cargo Insurance is hard to balance. If it is something you buy into, a trader who bought it will have no reason to give into a pirate. If it is something given for free, it removes any Difficulty for the trader. Suprisingly many traders will self destruct rather than give any cargo to a pirate. If Traders get cargo back in their holds, will more do it? Any type of cargo insurance, has to walk a fine line between looking out for the trader and still allowing piracy.

As I said before the only difference between npc and player pirate is that players are a hell of a lot better than it than the npcs.

Not quite, though not your fault. For many people, myself included, being attacked by a player is completely and fundamentally different than being attacked by a NPC, even if the end result is the same. It's why, in any game I play, I'm so adamant about a way to completely and utterly avoid PvP being always available, and recently also about PvE players not being at any disadvantage.

I do agree that you didn't do anything fundamentally wrong in pirating another player. But you should be aware that the mere existence of that play style does drive away players that seek open for the possibility of positive interactions with other players; regardless of how polite and amiable you are in plying your trade, it's fundamentally a kind of negative interaction, one that will frustrate, and potentially ruin the day, for a certain kind of player.
