Open : holy moly! Ultra-hardcore mode instead. I only risked a Type-6 and was glad I used this ride - Interdiction Hell deluxe! Never did so many PvP Evasions in my whole life. Barely managed ~400tons through that Chaos. Reaching top 5% or even top spots? Not a chance in hell.

Ok, fair enough. Now, do this for me, go to a quiet area of open away from the heavily player populated systems and then tell me how different it is from playing in solo. Once you get out of the populated systems open is just as 'safe' as solo. The fact that you and others choose to put yourselves in harms way does not give you the right to go around belittling the way others choose to play the game. And of course, there is also the rest of that little quote you chose to ignore. In Open and in groups you can fly with wings and meet other wings on similar terms. That option is not currently available for the solo player. In solo it is the player, who may not be as proficient at the pew pew game as the combat savvy PvP players, against whatever the game throws at him/her.

Solo : ultra-easy mode. I could have grinded that in a shieldless Type-9, for as long as I could stand the grind. Delivered ~26000tons within 6 hours or so. Good chances of making Top spot, for a brief Moment I made it #4 overall.

And why do you think the Devs made the Elite contest to the 10,000 pounds, ONLY available, to Open players?.........did you kick up a fuss about that? "Its not fair, why should'tn solo players get the same money if they get there first?".........
.
The Devs seemed ok to incetivise Open play then, lets hope they do it through game Mechanics.........you can keep your safe Space Trucking world, and the Open players can go for Bigger prizes.........and there is nothing to stop you swtiching to Open and having a go at them yourself.....same for everyone......

Falcon Fly was referring to Community goals, not just standard gameplay, and the very name suggests that they are designed to be played in open.

Whether it's harder or not in open is not really a relevant argument, since there's no competition between players other than the race to Elite that you mentioned. It was perfectly reasonable to restrict the marketing competition to one mode, and I don't think anyone complained that it was open only. Regarding incentivizing open play, they would only be able to do it marginally, as solo and group players would still need to be able to achieve their goals without being forced into open.

Don't forget me !!!

The link in my Sig to the Dev stuff and DDA and KS info... I do repost it from time to time for those to lazy to click it :)

lol

Sorry, Jockey has also quoted a lot of good stuff over the last 300 pages :).

I did read a lot of DDA stuff from someone's link, might have been yours, but its still good to see it posted again in full for people that don't understand why some things are like they are.

+1 on this.

I play my game my way. Others play the game their way. If I don't like their style I move to a different system. If I don't want to move, I go into Mobius.

While I don't agree or think its "fun" to pick on solo players who are inexperienced, flying smaller ships or whatever with wings of combat ships, I also don't agree with the same inexperienced, flying smaller ships or whatever people expecting others to play "their" way in open play. You don't like more powerful groups imposing themselves on you, but you feel just and correct to impose your gamestyle on them? I don't think so,,,,,,,,

And while I have said it MANY times before, I will say it again: If you don't like the PvP style that open brings in populated areas, join the Mobius group. It is EXACTLY what your looking for.

FalconFly did open my eyes a bit where community goals are concerned, but that is a specific event, you only have to move away from the core systems in open and the chances of meeting another player are small.

Why should I earn more running a trade route in open, when I can have 3 mates support me, with little more chance of meeting a player than I would in solo.

I have no horse in the £10k race, I would never have the time to stand a chance.

Actually my thread that got put in here was community goals so it is not the way its always been on that as that is still a fairly new feature. Yes it does bother me enough when it is gamebreaking balance issue. I have requested refund from frontier support and they told me to post the issue on the forums so the devs can see it. I showed them what happens when we do that the threads get thrown into a massive mega thread that the devs wont read due to time it would take to read all the replies. That in itself is shoddy customer support at best.

Right, you're objecting to the shared universe and free mode switching, where solo players impact the same background sim, the same community goals as open players. It's not surprising your thread ended up merged here because, like I said, this was the design from the start. It is as it was in the beginning, is now and forever more shall be. Amen. The issue has been discussed, griped about, inspired legendary rants and ragequits and is settled, over, done. It is an ex-parrot.

You knew (or should have if you'd done your due diligence before purchasing) that this was a design feature of the game. You purchased it, agreed to the terms of that sale, downloaded it and played it now you're saying you don't like a feature and because of that you want out and want a refund. You'll not get one. What you can do is decide whether it is enough of a game-breaker in your eyes for you to walk away or not. Most of us have done it, bought a game and then discovered it just didn't fit for us - for me that was prince of persia: sands of time. I simply couldn't play it with the wacky camera angles. I wrote off the purchase and walked away.

If you decide that is the course you want to take then this community as a whole will miss you - every player that walks away from the game diminishes it a little. However, if you cannot live with this core feature of the game then with regret we will bid you farewell.

If solo and group modes were closed down, I'd stop playing Elite. I don't enjoy interaction with other players, outside things like chat and maybe working with others on agreed goals. I'm enjoying the Mobius group. I absolutely hate PvP, and being affected by others.

Let's not assume that making open compulsory will see all players moving into open. They may play other games, or go and read books, watch TV, whatever. If I had the choice of playing Elite in open mode and watching paint dry, I'd watch paint dry.

Cheers, Phos

Also interesting, there was talk (DDF I think) about making the transponders the same for players and AI on radar, I doubt its going to happen though, a bit late to change it now.

That would be the perfect solution. You have to take time to scan a target to see if its either a player or an NPC.

Yup. I'm currently playing 4 online games. If FD decided to make everyone go open, then I'd shrug, maybe have a moan on the forums and go down to playing 3.

I remember the days, when this thread was young, it was vibrant and full of zeal for life. The creativity flowed in abundance, with such passion.
Then middle age struck, and it just meandered on, and middle age made it just grow fatter - as middle age has a habit of doing.

Now, the senior years have come upon it, where it repeats old ideas as new, recalls stories of past experiences and repeats itself over and over clueless that it is doing it, while holding a cup of coco in a dressing gown and slippers.

There is something I just don't get.

You play Elite Dangerous....

Your sig suggests that you play as a trader....

Part of the game (from a traders perspective) is getting attacked by pirates, its just a professional hazzard....

The game is HUGE, the vast majority of pirates are NPC's....

So, why are you so bothered that just once in a while you may get attacked by a pirate that is NOT an NPC.... ? Why is that such a problem to you solo players.

Honestly i'm not trolling here, I am genuinely puzzled by this aversion to playing a space MMO in multiplayer mode...
