The SRV is so primitive... how about a hovercraft?

I wonder why don't we have an alternative to this "vintage" vehicle.
We have drones of the same size which can fly for hours, and we are stuck on the ground struggling with terrain, holes, traction, able only to "fly" the SRV for a few seconds. Why don't we have a levitating hovercraft, a speeder, whatever else?! Scanner seems not to be the problem, because we still receive signals when we fly the SRV. Anywhere in the Sci-Fi world we have such vehicles/motorbikes. Look at Star Citizen itself, or Star Wars.
Please, give us a faster and more comfortable prospecting vehicle, let's try to make something fun instead of painful out of this game, because every action in the game is painful. ED will be remembered as the most painful, repetitive, never-ending grind game ever.

Must admit flyable drones would be nice, a chance to EVA out of the ships without requiring spacelegs - explore the ghost ships up close, fly into planetary bases shooting other drones... The tech is there, just the Will that seems to be missing.

I want just a Taipan with a basket and a wave scanner.
Skimmers are already there... Why don't we use skimmers to prospect?

Maybe that's the ticket - a SLF with wheels. It wouldn't fly as well and wouldn't drive as well but will allow what the SRV was conceived for, exploring planet surfaces for fun&profit. Furthermore it won't be as much a vomitfest as the SRV in VR. Or big skimmers.

And yes, this thread has popped up many times before but I'm all for it popping up again and again until we have better ways of exploring surfaces - hopefully by the time we get the anti beige serum.

There is no artificial gravity (or anti-gravity) in this game and a hovercraft requires an atmosphere to operate....

Stick 4 SRV thrusters either side of a bike, tune down the output to accommodate for the much lower mass and voila. Less health as the pilot is exposed, forwards firing weapons only as it's a bike and more fuel usage as it has to hover but faster speeds and no fall damage.
Oh and no cargo obv.

Pretty sure any vertical thruster type vehicle would require too much fuel in high gravity environments than a wheel vehicle. Then again its a game in the long future... Who knows what science can do by then. I still prefer wheels for this. Or a mech.... Mmmm mech...

Simple answer: because we can already fly in dozens of vehicles, and the SRV is supposed to give a radically different experience.

The rest of your whine is rather sad though. If everything is terrible and unfun and grindy and evil and whatever, do yourself a favor and find a game that at least intends to offer what you think is fun. For your own sake.

You're expecting ANOTHER ground vehicle for the prime feature of EDs first expansion to enhance the main activity of Horizons two years in?

Seriously, this again? Do skimmers hover? Then we can call them hovercraft. Fits better than the ballooncrafts we have today.

We have skimmers. If we have skimmers we can have slightly larger skimmers that carry people...or their "telepresense" or whatever. Lose cargo space and carry more fuel.

Skimmers do, indeed, hover. Calling them hovercraft conflicts with the extant definition of the term - we don't call helicopters hovercraft, after all.

This is something I asked for in Suggestions and Feature Requests a couple of days ago. I like flying my ship in VR, but have to use a screen when driving the SRV because driving it in VR makes me nauseous. A Surface Reconnaissance Skimmer would have a much smoother ride and allow me to do my material collecting etc. In my HMD.

Snorts. (Sorry couldn't help it)

I'd agree in so much as it would be great to see some diferent classes of SRV, maybe a version with longer wheelbase to smooth out some of the bumps? Honestly though I struggle a bit to understand what's not fun about bouncing around in the Scarab, I'm in total love with the thing! (In a way maybe because it's not a total cinch to drive., makes exploring the surface more satisfying if it takes some skill to do?) I'd just board the ship and fly forward a bit if a distance looks too far or the terrain too challenging.

Heck yes! If telepresence is a big handwavium in ED, why can't we have skimmers. (As an aside, they must be less in weight than an SRV, surely?) :)

Set in the year 3300, we can jump dozens of light years, yet there is no artificial gravity. Makes perfect sense... BTW that's over a thousand years from now..... PLEASE
