What would come next?

"The Space Sims" ? :D

Star Citizen is now officially branded first person universe. So having stuff like Hangar's or Apartments is just normal if you are creating a first person experience. Chris told many times that the experience with toilets and food will never go beyond roleplaying and small bonuses. Those kinds of things will never be intrusive. Just side stuff to do. The more roleplay options the better. I would love to get to my apartment after a long days work and sip on a drink and look at Terra from above. Tune in some music in the jukebox and check my MobiGlas for another mission to pick up.

Joking aside, I do think that trying to achieve that detailed level of immersion is most commendable. Personally, I would like shortcuts to bypass it all, as I am often short of valuable game-playing time, so naturally I'd want to focus on getting to the action. Although, now and again (when time allows), I would indulge myself in that side of things a bit more.

Star Citizen has taught me that there is a very real market for an alternate digital world.

The matrix is coming and people will sell their grannies to go live there.

I'll probably join in but I'm not into buying off-plan.

people bought land on the moon and the one who had the idea is a millionaire now. so yes im quite sure, CIG will sell EVERYTHING in this game.

Selling houses is an expected progression for CIG, assuming that they stop selling ships (there is no way they will stop selling ships), they can fall back on houses. I also expect them to sell weapons and armor for FPS.

Now the surprising thing, for some, will be when CIG sell luxury moons, with a "that's not a moon" package. This could even apply to space stations, but even I don't think CIG would go that far.

I think it is cool SC will have landmarks like this. I hope FD to make some in Elite too. A place for players to meet each other. A place that feel alive to break from the loneliness of space.

I actually would love it if they would let you buy an apartment with a nice view with ingame currency. That would be sick.

Well I really would like that. In Fallout3 in Farcry4 you can have house or some.
But a real place with space port to park landed spacecraft. would be nice.
Like in real-life you could have a living boat. So what about a space version of that.

A Space variant of a living_space_boat would be a small motherly_ship.

For ED, with it's exploring in mind it make sense to have a much more mobile homebase. but I would like to see that in SC to.

I would not be surprised if they started selling apartments and ultra luxury once Alpha/Beta of PU hits for real money. From the start CIG has assured the backers that they will stop selling ships once the PU actually hits i.e. game is released but as time went on that moved more towards "We are not sure if we will stop selling ships"...Yeah

I doubt that they will send apartments for real money. Even ships will go out of sale next year on the 1.0 release.

No, their official position is that they don't know if they will cut out ship sales. If there is demand they will continue to sell ships post launch, that was from Ben.

In regards to all this talk of player housing, I thought you guys might find it interesting that the $10000 pledge during the original kickstarter contained this little tidbit:

1 Million Mile High Club Ownership - Invite your guests to your private club in the game

Now there hasn't been all that much info on club ownership since then (to my knowledge), but apparently, this is what will make it out for player housing (at least part of it, there will also be stuff like player owned space stations and of course all of your hangars).

So technically they are already selling player housing, and have been doing so all along ;)

The hangar has always been what CIG sees as the player's housing.

That's all I'll really be bothering with for the vast majority of the time. I will no doubt do a bit of planetside/social exploring when we get it, but as for having some apartment - I'm just "meh" about that, don't really care - but I'm not against others enjoying that kind of thing, while their busy pimping up their virtual home, I'll be out in space having fun :D

It also make no sense not to.
As it is a MMO. And tend to be updated supported and extended, after first release, for more then a decade if sucses full and that need a studio paid for a decade to keep on producing. For MMO the producton cost get bigger after release.

Paid add ons make sense but will it be enough.

I hope you are joking with what you just said.

While I don't know what CIGs exact plans are, I would think that hangars are intended as individual player housing, whereas clubs are a sort of guild housing (or organization housing to use the SC term).

I have to admit that I've always been slightly perplexed by this statement (Ben's, not yours). We know that selling of credits for real life cash is confirmed, and since you can simply use this credit to buy ships in game, why would they feel the need to also sell ships for cash? convenience?
