Abandoning the use of design documents because they were wildly inaccurate. CIG in a nutshell. Also the number 1 sign you should not try your hand at anything more complicated programming-wise than hello_world.cpp.

Same goes for having a “roadmap” that isn't a roadmap but rather the list of things that you “confidently think you can deliver” — doubly so when the only thing you can say with confidence is that it those things will not be delivered by then.

How is that different from, say, this:

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/14697-Star-Marine-FPS-Update

Today, I’ve asked some of Cloud Imperium’s department heads who are involved in developing the module to update you on the status of Star Marine. Not the broad ‘how cool is it’ information that you get at events and in the press, but the nitty gritty: what are we doing right now? What are we improving and why? I hope you find it an interesting read and that you understand why Star Marine isn’t like anything I’ve ever developed!

Look at the CR note. Just look at it. Then look at the dev updates just below it. And the final kicker:

We hope this update has helped you better understand all the pieces going in to Star Marine, with teams from studios around the world contributing essential elements to its development. We will continue to provide regular updates on the Comm-Link and during Around the Verse until we’re ready to kick off the first public release. Trust us when we say, we are as eager as you are to kick off playtesting and let the Star Citizen community see what we’ve been putting our all into. Star Marine is an important building block to the complete Star Citizen experience, it’s a showcase for how far we’ve come with many of our technologies and processes… and it’s going to be a lot of fun, too! We’ll see you on Gold Horizon.

That note was issued in exactly similar circumstances under an exactly similar pressure of lack of progress. In this case about the suposedly imminent, at the time, Star Marine. Now realize that note was issued more than one year and a half before Star Marine actually finally released. And we all know how that extra time dramatically improved the level of "quality" and "polish" Star Marine has today. Ahem. Full year and a half and backer funds well spent indeed.

And these are just a couple examples among the miriad of times CR and CIG have similarly changed roadmaps/communication/transparency/refactors/whatevs just so to give the illusion of progress and make it easier for us to believe it. How many times is it going to take for folks to understand what is really going on?

Yeah, not commenting on the efficacy of what they are posting, just posting that it exists.

Personally I don't really care what the reasons are. And with SC I am definitely in the "I'll believe it when I see it". Usually the roadmap is fairly accurate if you are only looking at what is in the next release. After that I consider it more of a wish list. Of course that didn't hold true with 3.7 which got massacred last week, 2/3rds of the way through the cycle.

Towards the end of todays video they were sure to mention that 3.8 and 3.9 would really ramp up - but SQ42 was the total focus of production at the moment, and that apparently the PU cannot meaningfully progress until persistence and SSOCS are both implemented. Staggered development is going to help, urm, I have no idea how.

I'm going to invent Staggering Development and program Stellar Denizen on the ZX Spectrum after a crate of Macallan.

Look at the progress I've made already! I'll be selling $4000 UDG's in no time :D

One of the better ISC where they talk about more technical stuff and what is going on.

That was what I call a good video (y) Having Chad there talking as a programmer was more informative than any amount of design and management tomfoolery...Todd Papy as well, I like him. All in all, a fairly straight up, talking heads offering, the likes we haven't seen for a good while. I'm like Sovapid...I'll believe it when I'm playing it...but that was a decent offering in the interim.

...and 3.6.2 is live in the PU...I can have my Valkyrie back, this time with doors and internals...which also means I'm back at Olisar in a newbie suit with an hour of flying around collecting bits of armour, ship weapons, ship upgrades and making all that million and a half aUEC back I just lost in the wipe

Woah, i'm not sure they are ready for object oriented. Let's just stick to hello_world.bas for now.

No one is talking about this commercial? Its what running passengers should be like!

Only one appropriate response to that vid.

And have you any dreams you'd like to sell?

Also, congratulations to CIG for ripping off yet another intellectual property in order to sell ships. As far as i know, the Great Gatsby is protected under IP laws until 2021. There again, i believe they will be protected under the parody clause. :p

Well the no LTI on the 890j saved me $890 tonight.

I loved it in the PTU, even with its flaws (fuel burn and missing cargo capacity).

Now I have to hope that my LTI 600 explorer gets a great rework.

Wow, what a bargain! Now you'll have $890 to spend on even more jpgs!

That video also shows 10 times the content and features the current SC alpha has...if thats even enough. Again CIG shows that its biggest progress comes in the form of marketing videos....thank god OTHER people have all these great ideas CIG can steal and lean on because they seem to be unable to come up with a creative idea of their own :) BDSSM in the making ^^
