The Star Citizen Thread v8

Christ, I just brought a 4k TV. That's gonna cost me a fortune to fill!

Yeah, and remember, it will need new pixels every 15–30 ms (or even less, if it's a particularly fancy one). So it'll be quite costly to run as well.

*Has a quick look around for beak sign*

You didn't hear it from me right - but I know a geezer who does recon'd pixels - with a guarantee and everything - PM me for details!

Not to suggest anything illegal or anything, you know, but I hear you can even download pixels from the internet these days. Probably nothing will come of it as long as you stay away from one of those dodgy Airbus-sim manufacturers that give you malware…

Pfft, those pixels all come from factories in China. They employ children, it’ll take a month to get them, and who know what toxic crap they used to make them!

Buy pure fidelity Roberts pixels, it’s the only way to be sure you’re not supporting child labor.

Here, have a few free pixels:

... . . .. . . ... . .

Those are no mere pixels. That’s a Fidelity of Idrises at maximum draw distance, crewed with hundreds of commandos enjoying an immersive multiplayer experience fighting over who gets the ramp first.

I created a refund request ticket back in late December, and was approved for a refund on January 30th for 685 dollars. 635 dollars of this refund was from originally from Amazon Payments via an account that is now closed out. I asked CIG to put all of the refund on my PayPal instead, since you can't refund to a closed account. I talked to Amazon and the bank from the closed account to confirm that I could not receive a refund to a closed account.

Yesterday I received 50 dollars in refunds to my PayPal, and my RSI account has been suspended. I am still out 635 dollars though. All attempts to explain this and work with CIG over the last month have fallen upon deaf ears. I have opened up complaints with the FTC, with the LA DCBA, and BBB, for what its worth. RSI refuses to talk to me about this issue. The only message I have gotten is that they cannot change refund payment methods. Is there any other kind of recourse available to me?

So much for seeking guidance from the BBB for improving their refunds process.

Oddly enough the BBB seems to be under attack for being a little on the dubious side itself, according to Wikipedia.

From the wiki;

A business is eligible for BBB Accreditation if it meets, in the opinion of the BBB, the "BBB Standards for Trust".[2] There are eight BBB Standards for Trust that the BBB expects its Accredited Businesses to adhere to:

Build Trust ("maintain a positive track record in the marketplace")
Advertise Honestly
Tell the Truth
Be Transparent
Honor Promises
Be Responsive (address marketplace disputes)
Safeguard Privacy (protect consumer data)
Embody Integrity.[20]

That's the lovely thing. No matter what happens to Star Citizen, Mr Roberts's financial future is presumably secure.

Edit: Having read that Wikipedia article, I now know that Return of the Jedi failed to turn a profit, despite grossing nearly $500M. Not much hope for Star Citizen then, unless the pledgers increase the rate of jpeg purchases. Or development continues for another ten years.

The reason why is a very well known phenomenon... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollywood_accounting

Let's hope, for the backers' sakes, that CR hasn't been taking hints from the time he played movie producer.

And each pixel is unique. That's why it's a crime against nature to destroy them and so we serve the church of persistency and exchange all that pixel data with other players in MP. Each pixel conserved and shared is a praise to the universe. The heathen that omplain about FPS are just heretics that don't understand divine laws of existence.

There is XBox in the world
There are PSfours
There are WiiUs and Switches, and then
There are those that follow Mobiles, but
I've never been one of them

I'm a PC user,
And have been since before I was born,
And the one thing they say about PCs is:
They'll take you as soon as you're warm

You don't have to be a six-footer
You don't have to have a great brain
You don't have to have any clothes on
You're a PC user the moment Dad came,

Because

Every pixel's sacred
Every pixel's great
If a pixel's wasted,
God gets quite irate

Let the heathen spill theirs
On the dusty couch
God shall make them pay for
Each pixel that can't be found

So Crytek's new game is out (Hunt Showdown) on early access and straight in the top of steam sellers at £26 a pop. I guess Crytek is not going bankrupt as citizens would hope so...

I'm sure the crazies will be happy to have something else to reviewbomb.

That'd be particularly grim :( they have been very determined that this should be the death of Crytek as if the world of rational beings are all behind the Mom + Pop Roberts team and Crytek are the wild and crazy Bad Ones - shall have to go look

I'd be surprised if it hasn't started yet.

As if CIG still employs anyone who knows anything about how AC works.

Somewhat worryingly you may be close to the mark. But not to worry, as their detailed designs, and high and low specifications, all tucked safely away in their version controlled document library, will enable them to pick up wherever things were left off.

Yeah, I'm not worried. No siree bob. And certainly not at my pledge level. :x

Its crazy how supposedly important employees just vanished over the course of this project without any official explanation and nobody asks questions. Like this disabled guy who has recently disappeared in the official channels if I see it correctly. Shows you the very character of this 'community' and company.

Well, to be fair, stocking up on internet drama, corporate entities, TV shows and frenzied backers is, at this stage, pretty much the core gameplay loop of Star Citizen.

Because there is still NO game.

Anyway - I'm about 1/3 way through this weeks ARV - and it's all about the Idris in SQ42!

They are going to make the Solar System (Stanton, still) HUGE! Every AI will be persistent! They will choose their own activities based on their schedule! Does this mean we'll have AI queuing up to find the bathrooms? :D

More delights to come, I am sure!

Has anyone seen this? What are these people doing? Talk about feature creep.

I was hoping Squadron 42 would be simpler and more likely to be released. Now they're going crazy with the Ai you pass in the hallways of the ship. Seems the Ai have their own personal lives.

Hah, so obvious the guy at the start is reading from a script.

Love how they move around slowly to avoid killing the framerate. An overload of fidelity? Can't imagine that, it looks like a game from the 90s.

Ok, bit about the living Idris... erm... walking around the Idris? Why? They want you to walk around the ship and see these NPCs going about their lives? Holy jesus flipping wept. Even janitors! More lulzbuckets please Asp!

I mean, i can appreciate the effort they are putting into this really detailed NPC stuff, but hell, they are still missing so much of the game. This is the sort of stuff that can wait. What about core game mechanics?

I used to joke they are making Second Life in space. Its worse, they are create Second Life for NPCs and turning the player into some sort of second life observer.

Where is the gameplay?

And at the end, of course, buy buy buy!

And its working.... funding is up over the last couple of days.

Buy an Idris!
