The Star Citizen Thread v8

I see two intertwined main reasons:
- Vanity: to "enjoy" their overpriced toys otherwise than through the clunky cockpit
- Cockpits are so badly thought, rickety and cluttered it's a PITA to play with

The cockpits are a problem at the moment - visibility is really poor when flying around, and don't get me started on the "landing" mechanics, such as they are... I've heard it said that the cockpit clutter is a way of balancing the ships so no one ship is a game killer, but this current iteration is nonsensical. What's the point of having lovely space views if you can barely see them from the cockpit?

Then again, CR is all about the cinematics - maybe the game is meant to be played in third person?

That's puzzling though since everyone has played Freespace series which basically defined how to do a proper HUD, or even iWar series, and that would have saved quite a few assets and headaches for integrating them into the game proper.. instead they chose to start with a "forest of CRT monitors" approach which is not only outdated by 2018 standards (look at recent cockpits, both civil and military.. integration on one single huge MFD and HUD also integrating a lot of data) but really out of place in a modern (lets say post-2000) space sim.

But quite modern by 1943 standards CR is aiming at. :)

Poorest of the poor excuses.

Yes. As CR is pretending he's a movie director/game developer, everything that can flatter the citizen's ego and can help the citizen pretend he's a hero of a movie-like experience is thrown in, with little to no gameplay and/or conflicting design choices considerations, like fancy overanimated screens and UI elements, neverending rotating seats and sit up/down animations, emotes gestures, toilets, dirty pirates bases because pirates,...

It's like thinking Minority Report's gestures based UI interface is the quintescence of UI design, ergonomics and fidelity.

I put CR in the same league as David Cage.

Is it out yet?

I used to have a handy checker website but can't find it now. :(

Barely in Alpha, the PTU is a skeleton with only a few game mechanics in. So far its more in the proof-of-concept stage rather then under full development. If you are looking for a release date thats an unknown at this moment. Internal roadmap documents at CiG hint at development processes in 2020 but we all know how reliable CiG is when it comes to dates eh? :)

Apparently Derek is making some noise about some new big reveal that he is running by his legal guys at the moment.

99% its a load of tosh though, major prediction the game is finished in 90 days tops, and once again, 90 days will pass with nothing happening.

Anyway, guess we will have to wait and see.

This is the strangest thing to me. If I were CIG I'd consider this such a massive red flag. I was under the impression the idea was it was very much to be experienced as a first person immersive game but it's simply not just watching how people play - most of it's third person mimicry of hollywood.

Well, this looks like a bad time for space games. NMS being a , SC probably not going to happen, and now Frontier no longer trustworthy... wonder what will happen with X4...

NMS with a big update next month. At what point did you think that SC was ever going to ever be released? Frontier releasing multiple updates both free and paid for this year. Don't know about X4.

[ONT] Even with all this mess, from time to time I have a urge to CCU my poor manurefactured Aurora MX for a Reliant Kore. 48€ is still quite too high but with it I could at least try to enjoy the few gameplay bricks that are available.

If you are gonna upgrade to anything I'd go to the Avenger Titan. Cheapest/Best ship that allows you to do stuff in the game now.

You cant see the cargo right now if you load it up, but that should change in 3.2.

You'd still be able to upgrade to the Reliant Kore if for some reason you didn't like the Titan.

Ben Lesnick (Roberts' biggest fan) along with his wife are now going to be "working remotely" after leaving the L.A. office. :p

So they have been fired?

CIG trying to cutback I think. If they have been let go NDA's will have been signed, that's for sure.

Edit: This by EightAce on the SA forum maybe a "hypothetical" and may explain the need for CIG to save money...

.... Not a finance guy so excuse the questions. If someone was to pay themselves a large wage and a dividend and a yearly bonus and the same for their wife and Brother . Then say that the money ran out and this persons company was being sued for upward of 40 million dollars and they owed loans in excess of 30 million dollars to various banks around the world .Are they protected by having 16 different companies or are the personally liable for any monies ? Will the government agencies that have been building cases for the last 7 months be take pity and be reasonable or will they be nasty fudsters as well
