The Star Citizen Thread v9

Leonard Frenchs Readout on the Lawsuit.

.

L French with very little charisma or showmanship just reads a document about the case that we can read ourselves, then makes what I think is an incorrect assessment of it. I wasted 15 mins of my time. At least the other guy 'you tube law'(https://youtu.be/Uw-Df748okk) has a bit of personality, and tries to explain it.

Although I think they are wrong people should look into it and make up their own minds.

The best one is the one by DS (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lk_XO6aG1zk&feature=youtu.be) he actually seems to have followed the case, and gives some reasonable explanations, and his eccentrics keep you amused, but it is an hour.

Someone gave French more than $500 in the last month! I am in the wrong job

You earned your place on the ignore list well.

I originally excepted your account from the other shillitzen bots (who were just filling the thread with marketing boilerplate). But coming late to the party, not reading anything in this thread just dropping video links of your favorite shills in a drive-by manner puts you right there.

No need to reply, I won't read it.

Then I'll copy and paste it for you. Here is what he said in response:
"Ugh what? The guys a lawyer on youtube who does legal videos in general not SC. Don't understand how his read out and opinion is outrigh supportive without legal objectivity."

Saying out loud you are putting someone on ignore, then insulting them quickly before running away and hiding is petty. Either put them on ignore or discuss the issue. Politely.

In the comments under his video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lk_XO6aG1zk&feature=youtu.be) DS calmly answers a lot of comments One of the smartest things he says in response to a comment about turning off comments off is;-
"Thanks. I have been on the Internet long enough to know that stifling respectful discourse just creates an echo chamber. I don't do well in those."

But its up to you, I imagine that in the future when you log onto the forum it will look a bit like this,

It's truly bizzare.

French has pinned that comment that showed up in this thread yesterday saying that the second ammendment replaces the original but omits to note that the second contains everything from the first.

The lastest thing from the judge knocked back one of those things subject to appeal but didn't mention the others so it seems they are still in play.

The newest comments in both youtube threads are variations on the victory dance/Cryrekt/Crybabises etc.

How will they react when it becomes known that it isn't in fact case dismissed nor is it all done and dusted?

As someone said it can only go one way - either the case is still very much in play or it's over - trouble is the documents seem to suggest it isn't over.:S

Govny. You and Snarf seem to be discussing 50 players +

Last year (the instance was capped at 24 players) comments here were saying that 24 players would never happen and that in reality 8-12 players was the maximum that SC would run at. They were probably also saying that people who though it could ' did not know what they were talking about'

This year they have a 50 player cap, who knows what they will have next year ETC.

I do not know technically how many they can have without unreasonable lag, But the theory is that $210 million, hard work, Blind Culling and Object Container Streaming (videos are available explaining those things) will enable it. I doubt that snarf can explain it briefly on a forum so have a look for the video's (here is one but it is long and dull by the look of the first 2 mins https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0YYKIjEC0E)

Personally the only time I get a lot of lag is at Loreville and Levski where I can often see other players almost teleporting 10 meters. I am guessing that that is because they have too many NPC's and other objects so BC and OCS still need some work. For some reason at Port 0 in the station and in flight lag is not a problem and I have been there with 30+ other players in ships, some report 50 players is common and playable.

There has been a definite improvement in FPS with the latest patches, in space I am getting 40-80 FPS (average about 55). In Assassins Creed Odyssey I get about 35FPS although that is fairy constant without the same dips as SC

Im not sure if it matters, but my ping time is 11ms, download 41Mbps upload 4.2 Mbps. I have an SSD,16GB of DDR4 @3200MHz

You demonstrate wonderfully how "selective memory" works by picking whatever suits you while ignoring the uncomfortable facts tied to it. People today laugh about the warlord and his "90 days....tops" forecast butchanges happened back then that enabled CiG to continue. FPS improvements were bought by degrading other aspects of the game. Pretty much every "improvement" you list has had a counter-degradation in other areas. "AI is in" is celebrated when in reality its not AI at all.

And of course what you do works also in reverse, only much better....

2018....and still no game

...despite the continuous efforts of all the shills and white knights drumming the "THIS year it ll happen" drums. You see coming up with "conspiracy theories" is free but defending what CiG is doing cost millions upon millions of private peoples money. People can do with their money what they want, even burn it in the backyard if they so wish (just dont get caught, I think burning money is against the law in the US....) but fact is that many people have been suckered into this project on false promises and descriptions, thats why fairy tales about "wonderful and engaging gameplay" are so dangerous and need to be either countered or examined to their authenticity. I have no problem accepting facts....I do have a problem to buy into hyperbole and white knighting.

You see, while you might convince yourself that CiG "is getting there on their own pace" people like me are convinced that they only utilize smart tactics to postpone the inevitable. I dont understand the inner mechanics of the coding but others here do and have made the effort to explain their view and insight in detail and as neutral as possible. It comes down to believing them but without any counter-evidence from Star Citizen even years later I tend to do just that.

I dont see seamless, only hidden loadscreens
I dont see procgen, only handcrafted assets
I dont see AI, only background NPCs following their limited scripts
I dont see "large" only hacked 64bit positioning in a 32bit alpha

When people praise the "massive improvements" over the years they almost always forgot what these improvements have cost the community. Either in time, money or by sacrificing other aspects of the game, often simply "balancing" everything out.

Already....Star Citizen is more like a sim life clone in space rather then a space sim. "Gameplay" in stations and on trains already outweights pure flying or adventuring in time spent and development focus.

This will all change!

Will it? Or will everything just "shift" in order to preserve what they already have and cannot really expand anymore? Because to me it sure looks like it.

So the guy who is not a lawyer is a better judge at a lawsuit? 90 days tops people.

In that case your head is stuck in sand. They even showed live how they are in and you experience them in the game. Don't let hate cloud what you experience in the client.

Also using words like hacked is hilarious. We saw the transition from Arena Commander to Universe and experienced it. The same goes for ProcGen moons and planets, loading screens and others. Please record a video of a loading screen and show proof that the map is still Arena Commander big. You can't. Because it's not true.

AI is still WIP so I do agree they are rather primitive but compared to a year ago I see some AI doing activities now which is nice. Pretty sure they will get more advanced as we go. Just like with anything in time and development.

Everyone likes to complain about Derek Smart but I have found him nothing but civil, as long as you are civil to him and he is more than happy to engage in reasonable debate.

Simple question Mr Nowak - ignore if you wish.

Do you think - like many on that guy's youtube comments section seem to think - that the entire MTD on all points is now upheld (subject to 28 day appeal) even though the judge only mentioned 2.4?

Genuine question as there does seem to be genuine confusion.

LOL. On the subject of wealth management, aren't all these NPC's going to be running the SC economy?

The NPC's are my favourite thing in SC. All that stuff about them having their own backstory, being indistinguishable from players. Will they get fed up being part of SC, take a load of ships and head off to the Milky Way to join ED? :)

Nope, that's not what persistent NPCs are supposed to be doing. I find them pretty persistent right now.

The Reddit people "down-voting" his YouTube video don't realize that YT's algorithm just counts "dislikes" as likes and only no click as "not relevant to the viewer". So a disliked video trends just as well. [big grin]

But its up to you, I imagine that in the future when you log onto the forum it will look a bit like this,
This thread is moving very fast (like one post every five minutes), so no loss for me. It just filters the low effort drive-by posts dropped without reading anything others wrote.

Here you don't need to be a lawyer, judge or Derek, but just have a little bit of common sence to understand that lawsuit is nowhere near at end...

That is what it looks like.

In a previous ruling the judge specifically mentioned all points individually with an MTD allowed/denied - with leave to amend.

The amendment included the previously MTD denied points and an amended point.

In this latest ruling the judge mentioned only one point with MTD allowed subject to another amendment.

So following the logic of the previous ruling the allowed points are still allowed to be made in the new amendment - but 2.4 may get knocked back again unless they have a previously unmentioned zinger/show stopper which is presumably unlikely unless some fiendish last minute AHA! tactic is being depolyed - which I doubt but who knows..).

(apologies for the re-tread - trying to get it straight in my own head as much as anything).

Welp...that was a few seconds of my life I'll never get back. The entire thread smacked of 11 year old kids swearing at each other in the school toilets when the teachers can't hear and thinking they're cool [rolleyes]

Funny but you seem unable to admit that all these "wonderful" things are usually shown in-editor or in a tightly controlled development-environment which is not reality but rather theoretical future intention. There have been demonstrations of all kinds of things in the past few years, many of which havent materialized on the PU yet and a few select ones which managed to get delivered in a "zero tier" format...again....not reflecting any of the presentations from years back (mining for example). So I m not sure who really is "stuck with his head" in here. Me for not crediting CiG with things that are still theoretical or you for doing it.

I m usually a person that makes sure I get stuff for my money. Words are cheap and many people in my business talk a lot and deliver little. Forgive me for being extra cautions with CiG based on their track record and not buying into any of the hype. You can of course do so if you wish.

Arena commander was always and still is a seperated module. The "universe" that you speak of is a completely different beast and honestly, I dont see any ties apart from the same look. Saying that CiG took the arena module and simply "expanded" it into a universe is koolaid talk. CiG programmed the PU from scratch just like they did the planets.

And I say "hacked" because thats what it is really. The base engine wasnt supposed to support maps over a certain size and trying to simulate space certainly reached those limits quickly. The solution was something that the engine itself wasnt supposed to support. Now I dont know how you would call it but I think "hacked" is the correct description. If you chose to link the term to negativity alone then thats your own business but I stand by it. Also "hacked" becomes much more obvious when you consider how many glitches and bugs suddenly arrived since then all to do with positioning 64bit locations in a 32bit engine....all/most of them remain unfixed for years now.

Or do you not stop and think about WHY things like random teleportation happen? Do you just laugh about it and tell yourself "alpha" over and over like it would explain everything? Its true that there are lots of bugs in alpha projects but what makes any other alpha different to this one is that usually such things get fixed quickly and then enhanced based on an improved version.

Tell you what...I will make the effort and search the internet to link obvious loading screens when YOU load up a video of yourself showing me how what story you make up really plays out. I have no doubt that both our efforts will be immediately dismissed by the other because you refuse to acknowledge a hidden loading screen and I refuse to buy into obvious hype and shilling or intoxicating myself in order to see it through "your" eyes.

Please dont waste either of our times with such stupidity, lets just agree to disagree. I will continue to think of you as being a "fanboy" and you will continue as thinking of me as being a "hater". I wont change your mind and you certainly wont change mine by simply repeating "its true"

Meanwhile I still wait for some kind of game that is already overdue 4 years and probably 4 more away from any kind of release and watch life streams showing choppy performance, crashes and make-belief gameplay (because the designed gameloops are insanely boring to look at) ....all of which certainly is edited and fabricated by goons or haters (and "I" am getting called paranoid). Videos that dont fit those criterias pique my interest for a short while but closer observation usually is able to dismiss them as propaganda or fake. I am not stubborn or "set" in my views. I too didnt believe that Star Citizen would ever run smoothly but there are enough reports and also evidence that it does....at times....and of course achieved by dropping other things (as i said....balance....not improvement) so theres the explanation I need and which makes me see Star Citizen differently then you do. It implies being open to the other side.....

I think there is still a legal process to go through and an agreement to be made on the lawyers fees. A few months before anything concludes. The argument made by some is that the most heavy hitting part reaching near to conclusion as it doesn't make sense to hold on to anything that important to stop the amend to be held out for this long because it would be more advantegeous to release that (potential) information earlier.

The case is not done.

We saw the transition from Arena Commander to Universe and experienced it.

We haven't seen the seamless in game transition from private, personalized backers' hangar bays to PU yet, which was supposedly one of the selling point of SC, now 5 years after the introduction of the hangar module.

What's the excuse now?
