The Star Citizen Thread v9

When 3.0 launched they said it would take two weeks per planet with their new pipelines IIRC.

CIG, the gift that just keeps on giving. Aka: this is the same bunch who promised a 2014 release, as well as promising in August (2017?) that 3.0 was coming the following December, confirmed in early December just before the January (2018?) when they admitted that they needed to produce a plan for it?

So either they lied or are utterly incompetent.... or both.

Not sure this has been commented on before. From the Amazon Lumberyard FAQ:
Q. What device platforms does Lumberyard support?

Lumberyard currently supports PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, iOS (iPhone 5S+ and iOS 7.0+), and Android (Nexus 5 and equivalents with support for OpenGL 3.0+). Lumberyard also supports dedicated servers on Windows and Linux. Additional support for MacOS is coming soon. Please note that Sony and Microsoft only permit developers who have passed their screening process to develop games for their console platforms.

If Lumberyard only supports 'dedicated servers' on Linux, how exactly are CIG proposing to port Star Citizen to Linux? As I understand it, a 'dedicated server' doesn't usually include 3D graphics support (not needed on a server), which would imply that it can't be used for actual gameplay. Realistically, Linux support was going to be years off, if it ever got done, but if Lumberyard isn't going to support it at all, shouldn't CIG make it clear that Linux development is no longer on the cards?

There is a third possibility - it's remote, granted, but possible.

What if someone else is milking CIG for lulz and easy cash? What if they found their perfect mark and knew that there would just be waffle, handwaving, and easily swatted complaints from the most famous director and visionary in history about being "the escaped goat"?

CIG will simply make the pipelines to support it on Linux. And besides, Andriod is practically Linux. I'm sure they can wave their hands and all will be ok.

Besides, you know how these things are, just because something isn't supported doesn't mean it can't do it.

You see!

Re installed again (been a fracking pain to set up) and played some just to see the latest, recorded a bit, I got to say It is not as bad as I thought it was going to be.
Installed a couple of days ago, too. It runs a lot better, in general, than last time I installed it which was maybe 6 months ago. All the typically seen glitches were present, in spades. Things jumping, flipping about, things not touching surfaces properly (walking above ground, various invisible ground levels.) All I did was get my ship, take off and fly to a planetary body, land... walk about a bit, log out. If there was an actual game attached to it, I'd give it more time but for now that little bit satisfied my curiosity

Fidelity is impressive from that video, also it shows the local physics grid, mo-cap and deep content and all the extra work CIG have done. That is the first video I've seen that clearly identifies why this game is not and never will be P2W. I guess I can see why they don't need goal targets & deadlines when the project can produce such game-play. VR and Linux ports must be just around the corner. I guess all you haters are silenced.

SC is free to play this weekend!

It requires an account and a coupon code.

Google it. :)

Shame I'm off on holiday... Curse you CIG!

Do I have free space on Windows partition for that?

Nah.

I hate to say this but they got first class composer right there. Terrific work

It's called Gamescom, because a con is something different. *giggling intensifies*
It's called "Gamescom", because the original trademark Games Convention (GamesCon) is owned by a different venue, which doesn't hold the event anymore.

Initially Gamescom was a ripoff by major publishers, who decided they want their own thing. That's the reason for the weird name similar but different enough to not get sued.

In the end only the ripoff survived. Now see the irony of Star Citizen ("muh evil publishers") showing up on Gamescom?

EightAce on the SA forums......

Straight from the intergalactic news van

Foundry 42 are expanding from 270 odd to 315 staff members .
They are moving buildings to a bigger campus in the next 6 months
Sq42 is scheduled for release end of 2019 early 2020. It exists but it's ******* awful
All resources are on sq42 anything else you see is bull to get dollars
A lot of cash has suddenly appeared I have no idea where from or how, but it gives at least another 2 years dev time and lawsuit payoffs

Lots of people will say this is bull but it's straight from the horses/bears mouth
