The Star Citizen Thread v9

I know that, but I'm pretty sure it's the Photoshop icon in the upper left corner of the screen, which means that CIG was showing a mock-up. Still, it's not surprising given it's described as a "potential mechanic".

Oh sorry, yeah it's a .psd file so as you say, a mock-up. He does go on to demonstrate the "in game" version though (I think - who knows what's real and what's not at CIG these days?).

No, I just snipped it from the latest ATV - timestamp 3.50 or thereabouts if you need to verify the source.

I don't think Vidar meant did you Photoshop it - I think he meant was the screenshot literally of a Photoshop window... The answer is yes, because that section was from a UI designer talking about his prototype for the mechanic, rather than an implemented feature.
Edit: I should be less cynical - looks like there already is an in-game version in some form... Used alongside the awful holographic map view of course.

Heh, they are commited now to pushing out quarterly releases so releases gotta release on time.

But not exactly a big surprise for anyone who has been keeping an eye on the dev tracker. Funny though, there were some people on reddit just the other day talking about how OCS was almost complete, which was bizarre considering the percentages at the time.

If i put my tinfoil hat on for a moment, I think CIG understand that it won't give the performance increase backers are hoping for. They spent years hyping how OCS would make things much better and only recently started walking back on that, presumably as they started actually implementing it and seeing the results.

Releasing OCS before citizencon could hurt their latest cash drive, so not pushing it to release until after is probably a safer move. Get the money, then dissapoint the fans. Gives time then to start hyping the next big improvement that will make things better in time for the christmas JPG sales.

So in other words they're delaying 3.3, but renumbering it 3.3.5 so they can pretend it's still on track. And I'm sure that won't affect the schedule for 3.4 at all... They specifically refactored the scheduling to avoid this sort of balls-up but it seems they just can't help themselves. No doubt they're too busy mocking up some cinematics to sell more jpegs at CitizenCon, and everything will be back on track after that. At least, after they have a bit of a break to recover. And before they close for the holidays.

I'm too lazy to track down the post from the CIG apologist who said he was going to come and laugh at the haters when Hurston was released in 3.3, and who I said we'd never hear from again when it inevitably wasn't.

...The SC version numbering now officially makes me want to kick babies.

You've never had the pleasure of IBM versioning I take it :D

What has happened to SC's system though? Where did the alphabet soup go?

Latest ATV was disappointing. I sat down to watch it and called Lulzbucket over to join in the fun, but it just remained on it's pillow of comfort and went back to sleep instead.

IBM is fine so long as you don't stop to wonder what mystic runes and goat entrails are used to differentiate major and minor releases. At least they stick with adding 1 each time.
But Alpha 3.3½? Really? *Kick*

I'll bet you 40 quid and a bottle of Nikka Coffey Malt* that the same thing will happen patch after patch after patch until the heat death of the universe.

*if you've never tried this stuff - it's genuinely absolutely fantastic!

I'll take that bet!
Just because I subscribe to the "Big Rip" view of cosmology.

Either way, it should be nicely aged by then.
