The Star Citizen Thread v9

Why I see all these trailers and hear Chris voice in the head "give, give, gloriously give, give me more, give me more, get less, give, give give"?

Also there is really no wow factor. Squadron42 trailer looks rushed and with little to no good post production, you can easily see engine is not really ready yet, faces look washed out and as bad as previously.

I mean, is there anything salvageable at this point there?

Compared to what ? Elite Dangerous ? Released as a skeleton empty game 3 years ago!? Broken promises and things they told us they r "working on" only to find out they didnt even started yet?
Ppl in glass houses my friend..

The funny thing is i only paid 45 for Star citizen PU and Sq42, but i paid 120$ for Elite Dangerous and Horizons. I got more gameplay from SC so far. Still hoping for "fun" in ED, coz that what you do with ED. In SC you keep waiting, but in ED you just keep "hoping" they give a ...

Broken promises...Star Citizen thread is th....Ohhh, I guess you already here my friend :)

No, FD did not promise anything. And they keep actually delivering it.

CIG in another hand? Nope. They are not. And they won't.

Please don't give me this nonsense. Star Citizen has no gameplay. It is fooling around broken game engine. If you find it fun, be my guest. Rest of us somehow enjoy ED great deal for hundreds of hours.

For the sake of clarity, do you mean the recent CIG SQ42 trailer that was made of a hashup of assets dating back 3 or 4 years, or one that we haven't seen yet?

I think he meant this?

Funny thing is still looks like hashup of assets dating back 3 years :D

Is it me or basically collecting money around CitizenCon with fake scam trailers is how CIG gonna operate from now on?

I mean it is painfully obvious they don't see other way to keep existing but still...

Snippet from SC Reddit:
"One day all these little incremental improvements will all of a sudden push the game over some invisible barrier and it will be mindblowing to new players"

Oh dear.

To be fair, if there would be evidence of those improvements actually pushing game forward I would agree. But in case of SC there's simply not.

This trailer was.. boring. Seriously, how can you make a space opera about fighting aliens boring? I mean just compare it to this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBZfVm6aCLo or even this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvPQHdVG1lc They might be using dated CG and FMV, but at least the actors are somewhat animated to play their roles an know how to show emotions. This one? They talk like they just got woken up and asked to read the lines.

As for the graphics.. if this had shipped when they promised, ti would have been awesome. Now it just felt like a trailer made up of Mass Effect B-rolls to me. Oh well, at least if it comes out we'll have something to play that does not involve hopping on a server.

Good morning, guys.

I got caught in playing too much No Man's Sky yesterday before sleep, so totally forgot about the scam presentation.

Did I miss anything important? Is Star Citizen Squadron 42 released now?

Better, so much better. You have to drink and watch it. Whole thing. I mean, take one for a team :D

Well, as expected, Squadron 42 trailer (way worse than last thing, I mean, how they can think it is improvement), another 'hey look we have cyperpank looking gameplay too' segment, which is basically same thing with space stations they showed before (I still think environmental artists they have are way too good for that whole sad gig, FD should hire for ED spacelegs soon), now even with less gameplay, and on of course ship ads - and now they don't even try to hide they rip off ED ships anymore.

The tech that CIG showed at CitizenCon with the procedural city, nebula, asteroids, biomes, facial animations with gene splicing (proc gen) and the amount of detail is impressive. The problem is there's still no solid gameplay. Gameplay always supersedes graphics in games. Because in the end it's about how the game plays, not how fancy it looks. It's also unclear whether their revenue model will work when they run out of backer money.

So while Elite Dangerous doesn't have those things yet, at least ED has decent gameplay and it's being improved significantly with the Beyond season of updates.

That said, Frontier really should be developing their own tech for procedural cities, biomes, EVA and gene splicing characters. Because this is the best way to populate the billions of planets and moons in the galaxy. It's also necessary so that ED can keep up with upcoming competition.

Frontier is developing etc, etc. Check out Planet Coaster etc, etc.

Moving back on topic, I only managed to watch a little of the keynote, mainly because it lost my interest. Who is going to want to make virtual coffee that you can’t drink? Fine for role play, but dire gameplay, especially if it causes the game to crash. Who is going to want to travel a morning commute by train from their space habitation pod? If CIG is trying to recreate the humdrum boredom and ordinariness of real life, they’re not building a game I’ll want to play.

This is a cinematic vision, not a game.

Ok, less emotional observations

1. I am really surprised how they keep messing up Squadron 42 trailers. They look bad, editing and direction is awful (Chris, you can't do this, or at least you can't get your vision to be delivered), graphics start to look seriously out of date now. Also with all info is not ready to be delivered so....why it is even there?
2. Walking simulation part is....it is boring. And it hurts me to admit that, because I am fan of space legs. There are no breaks in that walking loop, yes, avatars still walk very stifly, there are no freedom in there, saw some NPCs teleporting all over the place, etc. I admit I still like CIG environmental artists, but there's lot of inconsistencies which again gives this smokes and mirror feeling; As for gameplay value I think other people already explained it better why it is bad idea. I personally do not want teleporting in ED anywhere at all. I will walk where I want and how long I want. But it has to be optional and reward has to be interesting, and there should be interesting breaks between;
3. Ship adverts are just painful to watch at this point. CIG themselves don't realize huge irony there;

Also this year I realized that I really just dislike this very strong advertising of the game which is years from being finished. It is just wrong. I always come back wanting to give SC a fair shake, but I go away always being disappointed about atmosphere it has. It is like someone writing checks over and over and over again which they can't cover. And other devs get smack down for smaller mistakes - or bigger ones like Hello Games. Why CIG should be immune? At least others HAS actual games live.

Such as..?
i paid 120$ for Elite Dangerous and Horizons.
Are you sure? Where from?
I got more gameplay from SC so far.
Good. play the game you like, not the game people think you should like. According to r/games, we should all be playing the new Spiderman game. Don't be that dude.

I'm still hoping for a star in SC.
