Really? You would have thought that after all the delays, the missed deadlines and their community members practically pulling their hair out that they would have actually tested this before they released it!
I would imagine that someone people got their arses thoroughly kicked over this.
I cannot understand why did they decide to make a release when it was already late evening - early night in LA (PDT time). Definitely after the go/no-go meeting they have decided that latest build was working fine and re-compiled everything for the release, and released the game right before going home without any testing (not finding out that they have made errors compiling the build).
This is definitely not how to do such things. If you cannot test it before releasing - delay it a little longer. 12 hours delay would not do any more harm after a six month delay but this issue would have been easily found by QA team.
