Really? You would have thought that after all the delays, the missed deadlines and their community members practically pulling their hair out that they would have actually tested this before they released it!

I would imagine that someone people got their arses thoroughly kicked over this.

I cannot understand why did they decide to make a release when it was already late evening - early night in LA (PDT time). Definitely after the go/no-go meeting they have decided that latest build was working fine and re-compiled everything for the release, and released the game right before going home without any testing (not finding out that they have made errors compiling the build).

This is definitely not how to do such things. If you cannot test it before releasing - delay it a little longer. 12 hours delay would not do any more harm after a six month delay but this issue would have been easily found by QA team.

Issues could have been expected and there would be no problems with this. However, it is unplayable and have major blockers and such build should have never been released.

Reading this guide is like walking in the hangar.

Things come up in software development. It seems they missed out on a few issues. Be patient in time it will be better. That's why i nearly never try things on day 1 i wait for a few patches.

Looking to play Arena Commander in a month or so.

Sure it will. But I have ED to compare it with AC. And unfortunately to SC ED did not have such blockers that would not allow to play the game at all. Of course, everything is going to be fixed in time, however, it would be better to delay the release until the game would be at least playable in some way, i.e. we could take off from the hangar, destroy enemies, or shoot into something.

So wrong to compare the two games.

Arena Commander is not a complete game! You are about to access a PRE-ALPHA module which is intended to allow Star Citizen’s early backers an advance look at the game’s flight model and other features. By playing, you are providing feedback to Cloud Imperium Games that will allow the team to balance, improve and debug Star Citizen. This early build does not represent the scope of the final project; what you see is the earliest taste of the action you will encounter in Star Citizen, but does not represent the interactive universe we are building. Arena Commander has not been optimized for all hardware and it has not completed the Quality Assurance process; the problems you encounter today will make a better game tomorrow! Please note the update in Sec. VI.C. of the EULA. Good luck, and good hunting.

I will admit to being a bit dismayed at people trying it with the mouse, and also the "map" like nature of this early peek. But at least there's something proper to see/play with now.

That's true... some stuff looks very nice... and the HUD and computer voice are really neat. Good thing my X-55 will arrive today... I couldn't stand trying that with M+KB.

This whole head bobbing is making me dizzy :/
HUD zooming in/out all the time, etc.

Yup, they are going even further then ED with all the dynamic stuff... not sure if that's a good thing.

The fact that Betty is warning you when specific shields reach certain threshholds is VERY nice... good combat awareness.

Neither is ED, it is not a complete game and it is in Alpha-Beta stage. A lot of forum members post that there is no way ED is Beta as it is not feature complete and it should be called as pre-Alpha.

My comparison relates to ED Alpha 1.0 and Alpha 1.1 releases which were very stable and did not have any major issues. SC AC is not that different from that ED builds. You will have Single Player and pre-defined scenarios, no traveling, no trading.

Just had a very quick go in AC.

At first glance they do seem to have hobbled the advantage in TPV so that should make a lot of people happy.

Back to work now..

Looks really good...can't say I'm that happy about the mouse aim though. :(

Reserving judgment until later. We'll, see how it feels when I try i out later tonight.
