The ten, 2.1, commandments

1: Thou shalt attempt combat with high ranking NPCs in a combat ship.

2: Thou shalt realize that bigger ships does not mean better combat ships.

3: Thou shalt realize in a space game, it is only proper that enemy A.I. dogfight, and use dogfighting tactics.

4: Thou shalt keep an eye on thy radar, on thy shields, and thy contact list, or thou shalt be blown to space dust in a few moments because thou art damn absent-minded.

5: Thou shalt not use the words 'destroyed me in seconds' in thy complaints unless thou hast found the first Thargoid.

6: Thou shalt report bugs to the developers, and not blame it on smarter A.I.. Thou shalt look up what a non-sequitur is if thou don't know why.

7: Thou shalt realize that never being destroyed means thou hast never been challenged.

8: Thou shalt remember discretion is the better part of valour, and retreat from unfavourable encounters.

9: Thou shalt tread lightly around wings of enemies.

10: Thou shalt remember Elite: Dangerous is not a sandbox game.

Given to me on the mountain by a mad-man in a gold plated sidewinder, the crazy.

forgot to mention.

thou shall have at least twice rebuy when flying new ship.

For new players probably, but after getting some combat and probably a few deaths under your belt (as happens to us all) you can get a new ship with confidence.

I've earned about 20 mil bounty hunting in my nice new jazzy viper mk4 (even though I can afford an FDL and outfit it too) and have gotten as low as 57% hull on it for maximum damage thus far, so experience pays off!

Lets talk about number seven, please.

How do you define 'never having been destroyed'? I've been killed in-game numerous times but according to my game-save I've never been destroyed because I wipe my game save on event of ship destruction. Unfortunately we'll never get a legitimate 'Iron Man' mode but that hasn't stopped me from instituting a self-imposed one. Claiming that never having been destroyed means you've never been challenged is erroneous when not getting destroyed IS the challenge.

I'm... not sure how you confused what I meant to be honest. To be challenged means to have met with difficulty.
Basically, if you haven't had the threat of death or never been killed during hundreds of hours of this game, I daresay you weren't challenged. If you have been destroyed or nearly obliterated and made a successful and hasty escape, then yes, I'd say you were challenge.

I'm talking about experience, not save files, I'm not a computer. :p

Frankly, if you're struggling with the AI the best thing you can do is to get a FAST ship so that you can choose your engagements. I have yet to encounter anything I could not run from in an iEagle or iCourier. In high-sec systems, a fast ship will also let you survive in a high-threat signal source until the cops turn up and thin 'em out for you :D

Basically, being able to get out of a fight is more important than being able to get into one.

Oh, I'm pretty sure I understood what you meant. Its just that the wording goes totally against the basic premise set forth by we few mortals flying among ye resurrected gods :)

Go jump on youtube or do a simple search on these forums. Furthermore, this thread didn't state anything about being only related to post 2.1.1 gameplay, in fact, it makes a specific reference to ONLY 2.1. Nice try!

Nope. You made the claim. You bear the burden of proof.

Yeah yeah, I was including everything after, mister wise guy, and also, there is no video proof, so don't waste your time. I already tried to find it.

I don't get it. I'm saying YOU WILL die when you come across challenges eventually. If you have NEVER died you have never found difficulty with the game, so the game is too easy, in that case.

The problem is exactly this though. Some players equate the base price of the ships they buy the sole true indicator of their progress. They don't care about actual prowess or understanding of the game. Then when they are told to use a better tool which is available to them for their competence and play style, they take it as an insult, basically claim you told them off.

Changing to a faster or more defensive ship (or a loadout on the same ship) is exactly how this game is played. People who are comfortable with the game don't see switching to a cobra or an asp for when they run smuggling or salvage missions as an insult to their family. They do not shy away from sacrificing some cargo space for safety when trading nor do they feel insulted when they park their cutter and take out their conda or even t9 for a few trade runs if they feel themselves a little under the weather regarding their rebuy money.

When told to do these exact things, things that all veterans do each and every day, they just refuse to listen, feeling belittled. There's no need to feel insulted. Using the right tools and tactics for the situation at hand is the exact way to play this game.

Yeah. I used to think ships below the vulture priceline were terrible, but after actually experiencing the different ships, and seeing how the AI (that actually knows how to fight) uses them, I've got more respect for them and realize yes, they're designed to dogfight. The Viper 4 is my fave for allll kinda reasons.

But the whole "I want change, I don't want TO change" attitude is awful.

Also, nice chaos king avatar.
