The "to hell with it i ordered CV1 anyway" post

Even if they did, they don't ship the first units till the 28th March, so there's not exactly a huge rush.
There are ~100000 DK2-s. Obviously not all in ED but DK2 in ED can benefit if VR is fully supported, so there is rush :)

I got in as soon as the website stopped displaying a white page, about 8:06am(pacific coast US time). Faced the shellshock on the $680 price (including tax & shipping) - I was very, very glad I had assumed 550-600, because convincing the wife was much easier than expected. ("it's 680, not 600." "OK dear, when does it get here?" "March!" "So you already ordered?").

I'm also extremely glad that I was able to save $500 from a bonus earlier in the year. It made the effective price $180.

Like I said in another thread

Well I pre-ordered, the way I see it is mine won't be shipping to May (if I'm lucky) So pretty much 5 months down the line I'm hopeful by then FD will know if they can or want to having it working with ED by then

Other people will of received theirs by then and will have chance to read some feedback on testing, Vive should of also been released or pre-orders certainly available with a costing of the unit

And if all else fails and it comes sooner than expected the is always somebody on eBay willing to pay to get your money back and more

I'm in...

I had exactly the same experience as OP, tried credit card multiple times and ended with PayPal then couldn't do final ok... frustrating but I'm officially an earylish adopter 😀

yep.

£529 with no promises it will even work in ed and I ordered.

I must be mad. gutted as well that due to their site burping, my initial 3 orders failed and I mussed the march delivery slot.

I may well cancel if FD do not update us closer to the date.

Any chance a poll can be added

Yes, pre ordered I trust FD will get ED working and want it asap
No! Too rich for my blood £530 is nuts vr will flop like 3d tv
Waiting on confirmation of ED support and VIVE info but will possilby bite soon on this or vive
will buy but only when much cheaper

Doubt it seeing that $599 US is about $850 AUD.

Yeah understand that but I wonder what is the $50 about if not an AUD price.
It's not shipping which is a whopping $130 on top of that!

I changed it to NZ out of curiosity and price changed again to $700....very strange

I cant order it cause I Need it to ship to Canada :( and my billing adress is in europe - doesnt allow me to place the order... Country of origin has to match the shipping adress! I am sooo mad right now!!!!!

Should work with paypal

Exactly the same for me, and I have to fix my billing address but couldn't yet since the updating on the website seems broken.

I may have just been lucky but I ordered mine at 23 minutes after the pre-release opened up and it went through 1st try and said expected ship date of March after completion. I can't see the expected ship date anywhere now, but recall it said that after placing the order initially.

Yes, so did a friend a mine.

I am shocked it has been priced that high really. I mean technically it's still the cheapest most advanced consumer VR system ever... before Oculus there was really low end expensive stuff from Vuzix and overpriced HMZ stuff from Sony. So Palmer has still created the most advanced VR at the lowest price... it's just that price may well be the same or higher than Vive which will drive many into Gabe Newall's bosom.

ok used my wifeys CC and got mine for 914 Canadian $ including shipping... may... oh somehow it feels good :D I am a happy camper! hehe

While I understand some people wanting to get it even at this price, I really don't understand why Oculus didn't add a camera like vive did so you can see what you are doing, major Quality of life deal breaker to me.

Because then it would cost $699. Seriously, that would have been a great addition. Perhaps HTC had a patent on it.

I've used the Gear VR passthrough camera and it's terrible. Not sure why as the S6 camera itself is excellent. Point being that it's not something I would personally use at all, but you're right that it should probably be there as standard.

I'd advocate at least four methods of making VR more palatable and friendly - one is the camera, or two cameras really, if you want to provide stereo vision! Another is some sort of adjustable shield at the bottom of the device so that, if you choose to, you can look down to see out of the unit. I would add the proximity sensor the Gear VR has so when you take the unit off your face it can auto switch your game/app to your monitor. In conjunction with that I would have a button that replicated the proximity sensor's function so if you popped the unit up onto your forehead you could transfer the image to your monitor manually. Obviously the SDK should deal with the game/app switching from VR to 2D seamlessly.

It's early days, this stuff or better will come I'm sure. :)

I would never use that because it breaks Immersion! it breaks what they call "presence" which means your brain is completely immersed and tricked u are in a reality... you will knw what it means when u had that...
they added it cause they are trying to market a walkign around experience aqnd it is needed so that you dont bumop into walls... but for Elite you sit and will never Need it and thankfully we dotn have it in the Rift!

The thing that bugs me about the walking around experience is that you're still tethered to your PC by a long cable that you can't see. I'm pretty sure that I'd be tripping over it every 5 minutes!
