The trading / mining / carrier loop is so much fun, please don't kill it frontier.

Just wanted to say how much fun the current setup we have for carriers is. Specifically:

  • Sandbox trading being competitive
  • Mining both high value commodities and tritium which can be traded or used as fuel
  • Limited and moving goldrush locations to stack the community
  • Carriers adding a new dynamic of bulk storage and arbitrage.

The mix of all the above is making an amazing game right now, please don't water down or turn off any one of those, it would be tragic, its so much fun with all those elements.

Thanks.

I've been out in the black long enough that I'm not really sure what you're talking about, but it has the feel of you asking for something not to be nerfed that should probably be nerfed... :D

You're missing out. They're pretty good.

I think the risks are only with the trading side. They could made the demand finite to limit access to trading points, which knowing frontier will be too low, then people will not bother trying naturally after one or two failed attempts. The other one is they could screw around with the bgs states too much to change the number available of best buy / best sell locations. If there are gaps due to the rarity and they're also non player causable, then that would kick out the pillar too.

Its like a little new sandbox within the sandbox. Imagine the vanilla game new with these things in it.

If I am poor, others should be too :D
I honestly don't really know what the OP is talking about and haven't looked into it. I've been in a post-credits game for about four years now for my given style of play. Are these things quite profitable then? That's the gist I got reading the thread.

Trading tritium can be as profitable as diamonds. Also i think there's a bit of players with too much money than sense offering profits to avoid the leg work to fill up 20000 tonnes. Its quite a few trips even in a full cargo type-9.

So there's another thing as well as diamonds that people can complain about yes.

Don't complain, its good. It had to be to avoid feeling stupid about playing trading with carriers rather than going straight back to mining. The bonus is trading in any other ship is an option too now. The best part of the patch.

It really is good.. its not just one dumb thing in one dumb place that has dumb follow these steps tutorials on youtube. Its quite dynamic and there's options to do random things all around it. So much better than usual.

Last I heard of void opals were a thing that were supposedly profitable that I didn't bother with either. If I were meaning to complain, I'd at least like to know what it is I'm supposed to be complaining about. ;)

Cheers.

Bug complaints are still good. Just try using one. Everything else is, well not necessary i think. Regarding all the other issues, i more fear the usual overreaction reaction by frontier, their trademark fun police, rather than any upsets to the experience. Its no different to how broken it was in 2017 in terms of balance. There's nothing new.

Great with a (rare) positive and appreciative post like this!

Looking forward to get back to civilised space, buying my first Python and get into carrier trading and mining. But looking even more forward to rendevouzing with a DSSA carrier in a couple of thousands of light years and seeing and docking with a carrier for the first time.

From the amount of coordination and emerging gameplay between carrier owners and other CMDRs, it appears to be some really good content that have been added with this update

Well if one can freely say when its bad, i think you're obliged to say when its good too. :)

But I thought fleet carriers were useless? ;)

Lol, didn't it click that the only people who would say that are the people who can't afford one and don't want to earn them?

Its pretty absolute once your have your own, its not deniable at that point.

Unlike the fss which is immediately crap.

The features speak to you...

Cheers to that.

So what is making this situation good?
It's not that there's more money to be made, though that is an incentive- it's more than that.
The player need for Tritium has introduced a very rudimentary single element economy into the game. Finally, there's a resource that we use up. Credits get literally burned as the Carriers fly. And the only way to match the demand for it, is to undertake mining for the resource, or trading for it-

This is the greater depth Elite has desperately needed for years.
And it's not too complicated. Compare it with the contrived station repair mechanic that didn't really work.
Player activity around Tritium includes consumption, trade, delivery, exploration, mining and piracy. It's a home run in game design.

Will I had a feeling people would enjoy using them even when I can't afford one myself, well I might be able to, but I won't know until I get back to civilization. Been exploring and enjoying using the FSS for a year and a half.

Everyone is after Tritium at the moment, and it is good fun. Find out where the best buy prices are, and then try and find somewhere to park your carrier, by the time I get on in the evening there is no room at the inn, so I park in a nearby system. Then the shuttle runs begin, constantly getting ganked by pirate NPC's on the return trip makes for good evenings entertainment. I now have 14,000 units of tritium. One more night should see me have enough for a trip out into the black.

Imo carrier trading was a thing during first 2 days after carrier update, when buying price for trit was 85k.

U had 30k/t profit for hauler when delivering to carrier, 35k/t when selling, and 15k for carrier owner. Prices at ~70k could work too, but right now, at 50k there is not enough to offer to haulers. Unless omeone is willing to make ~22k/t.

Or am i wrong and u can find traders that will accept 20k/t? Meaby worth trying.

The issue is that for some people, profit is not enough. They want PROFIT.

A canny buisness knows that lots of small profits, can add up to more than one big profit in the same time period.

So, set your prices accordingly, and advertise well, and you will make the most in the long run.
