The Truth About NPC Crew Pilots

Better than having to hunt around to find NPCs who haven't been hit with the ugly stick.
True, but how far should the customisation go? Can I change the NPC's gender at will because today I feel like having a male pilot whereas yesterday I wanted a female pilot? Can I change the NPC's voice if I want to find the one that I like the best?

The crew is set to defend. A good guy strikes my ship in the heat of battle. The crew defends and I get a fine. If the good guy dies I get notoriety instead of the crew! Thus the Sirius CG last week had some two hour notoriety waits to continue. Flying in formation then attack target at the right moment works but the crew can often hit a good guy.

Still with billions of credits and already Combat Elite they reduce my ammo consumption and can be sent to attack one ship or finish off the current one while I take on another. It is also fun to fly the fighters while the crew mans the ship. For me hiring crew is more of a luxury than a necessity. If the player need is to build up credits then don't hire a crew for awhile.

I wonder...Can a player launch a fighter then land the main ship? Never trying it my guess would be NO as the player needs to be at the main ship helm. Landing the main ship with fighter cover at a Guardian site then controlling the fighter from the SRV would put a dent in all those Sentries trying to take out my SRV. Add point defence to deal with missiles. It wouldn't work with security POIs on planets when the main ship takes off after the SRV gets past 2km from it. It would be a useful addition to the abilities of crew and fighters.

On the other hand a live player in the main ship with a crew fighter providing cover for another live player in an SRV at a Guardian site could quickly take out four sentries when they show up. Could be fun. Anyway just throwing out some ideas.

Atm no you cant land at all while SLF is launched (cant even do something like open the cargo bay iirc). Now they said in EDO you could, but they may have mis-spoke so we still wait to find out. Obviously you cant dock the SLF again while mothership landed.

You can open the cargo hatch, but you can't lower the landing gear.
