The Ultimate, Essential Bird Meta-Wishlist (Habitat AND Aviary)

Now that we have the outsource_lqa thingy... when we should expect news? 😅
The theory is that the pack drops about after a month of the lqa thingaming updated.
So most likely late September is when the DLC drops. Although that seems quite early, especially since North America was early October and Twilight was late October - although that was probably done to correlate with Halloween.

Weekly community poll! They often get overlooked but what are some of your favorite passerine birds? Like any red-blooded American, I love AMERICAN robins, cardinals, and the Eastern bluebird.

My personal favorite is the northern cardinal, which I see every spring in the country. I also like the eastern bluebird, which I again see every spring in the country. American Robin is also quite nice.

I don't like blue jays, though

And lastly the Eurasian Bullfinch. Is too beautiful to be from this world!

Among the passerines, I really quite like the shrikes - the great grey shrike is up there as one of the best birds I have ever seen in the wild. I know that at least one zoo here in the UK (Whipsnade) will soon be starting a breeding programme with the red-backed shrike for the purposes of reintroducing them to Britain, which would be excellent to see.

Although it isn't a true shrike, props also have to go for the grey-headed bushshrike of Africa. A really pretty little bird, but also incredibly fearsome - there are videos online (which I won't link here because they are pretty graphic) showing them killing venomous snakes by plucking their eyes out.

Very hard to choose, but Australian magpies are probably among my favourites. I don't pay attention to them much given how ordinary they are, but they're a species that I can't imagine living life without. From waking up to their melodious songs each morning...

...to their whismical personalities...

...to the way they show us filthy humans our place each spring. They are the apex predators and we must live in fear

My favourite passerine is the Passer domesticus, the common sparrow. That's the easiest and most basic opinion ever in this thread, but after all they are by far the bird I've seen the most times in my life. And I love how lively they are, and that daring but lovely behaviour they have with us humans.

Some pretty big changes this time. My beloved ducks have been topped!! 😭😭😭The owls are not what they seem...

Interestingly, now 3 of the Top 5 species are all birds of prey. To celebrate the rise of raptors, weekly community poll, name your favorite:
  • Owl
  • Eagle
  • Vulture

For me, eagle is Bald because I am AMERICAN.
Owls are an indiscernible tie between Snowy and Great Horned.
And show me King for Vulture.
What about you???

1. Snowy owl cuz Hedwig
2. Harpy eagle cuz is the best more badass eagle there is. Also good parents.
3. Andean condor cuz majestic, national and i've seen them in the wild (lammergier is a close second though, they are so cool)

For me, I'd do:

  • Harpy eagle - an eagle strong enough to lift monkeys? That's actually kinda cool
  • Barn owl - I just love how silent they are in the still of the night and how they sound, too
  • King vulture - the Presley of all vultures
