My experience with engineers has been that the people who complain the loudest are the ones who have played the least.

Not 100% true. Those who complain the loudest are the Grinders who, having already ground the life out of the rest of their gaming experience, now see Engineers as something new to grind.....then get upset when their grinding doesn't generate a perfect outcome every time. I treat Engineers as more of a nice sideline, & I have already got one Classe 1 upgrade done to my Power System, just with materials which I had already gathered by merely playing the game. The upgrade outcome was pretty good too. So this leads me to believe that Engineers is a much more positive experience if you treat them more as a sideline than a career, & if you don't try to race towards the "end-game" within barely a month.

Now, are engineers perfect? <Snort> No they're not. I do believe the whole process needs to better reward those who make a proper, long term investment (as opposed to merely grinding to rank 5), & that does seem to be the overall direction things are heading in. Are they the atrocious mess that the whiners say they are? Well that is an even bigger NO IMHO.

If by "eloquence" you mean that they can make their point without getting spit all over their computer monitors....then yes, you're correct.

It definitely DOES apply here.

In essence, the act of defending or apologizing for the actions of a person or entity that is having a negative impact on you. Through the act of denying the existence of obvious, well documented and proven bugs within the game, or twisting their effect from a negative into a positive, or by simply trying to rationalize the reasons for said bugs being allowed into the release, these individuals are exhibiting Stockholm Syndrome tendencies.

For the love of akatosh , why , oh why is just not possible for us to like elite dangerous?

Yeah the game has issues , and it has bugs.
But I think its the best spacesim out there , and have yet to see anything come even close to what we have today with elite.

That what I find sad about modern hate culture on the internet.

If a group hates something , then it must be objectively true and all those who play it must be insane.

Elite is the closest thing we have to a lifesim were you get to actualy fly the spacehip in a 1;1 universe with Xwing style combat and tradition elite style trading.

I think you are confusing valid criticism and frustration over a pattern of QA missteps with hatred of the game. Nobody posting here hates ED. I would say the more you like this game, the more of a problem you will eventually have with the way FD deals with quality control of their update process. Since we have no way to Opt Out of the update process, we are all forced to upgrade with each and every patch FD releases, bugs and all.

Personally, I LOVED version 2.0. I had no problem with 95% of it, and the few bugs that remained from well over a year earlier I could live with. Then came 2.1 which removed or radically nerfed a large portion of what I loved about 2.0 to the point that it doesn't even feel like the same game anymore in many areas. I'm not even talking about Engineers or AI changes. I'm talking about noticeable downgrades in image quality and performance with maxed ULTRA settings, and the loss of the ability to modify those image quality settings to be higher than the stock settings.

What did they nerf that upset you? I for one find the graphical upgrades to be good.
I play in 4K and have not noticed any form of downgrades what so ever (beyond the usual things that have not been fixed like terrible vulture paintjobs , low res textures at stations and so on)

The biggest DOWNGRADE I have found from 2.0 was the terrain map texture quality. There are several threads on here going all the way back to the BETA where players running high performance PCs were seeing this downgrade and pointing it out with striking side by side comparisons of specific planetary locations.

We all assumed this would be sorted out before the final release, but just like so many other downgrades, it was permanent. I think most of the players who made the biggest stink about this and took the time to post all those screenshots have left the game in disgust. At least I have not seen any of them since 2.1 dropped.

Frontier did state in the patch notes that the 2.0 texture maps and rendering system was replaced by a totally new set of maps and rendering scripts. FD claimed it was an improvement, but my eyes and my 980ti beg to differ.

Comparing the FD defense phenomena by sundry people to the "Stockholm Syndrome" is a bit of a reach. I don't think that FD can exert abusive or threatening control over the internet and force people to remain under its influence. No one here is a hostage or locked into an abusive relationship by someone that holds fiscal or physical power over them. If they are, I know that FD would be object of attention by many who would love to do that to others via remote.

The investment of time and effort may cause some to defend the game, after all, you don't want others to imply that you have wasted your time playing a "bad" game. Others may desire self-flagellation, like those who believe that they must be scourged to become "enlightened". Just some thoughts.[hotas]

IMHO, the ones that are having the worst time of the grind are the new players, I think they have a legitimate complaint over the newer game dynamics. Any number of older players accumulated game wealth under an easier environment and they are able to weather the upgrade storm until the calm returns (via updates). That is FD's biggest challenge, new players, in the industry, it's grow or die.

"the game is dead" "the game is broken""this is unplayable""I am leaving""this is why elite is dying"

instead of

"guys 90% of the game is epic but I think "X" could be better, or "X" isn't working right"

The totally over dramatic kiddie tantrum posts the moment something is brought to the game someone doesn't like. I always feel like if it is that broken move along, but I guess by the fact the "complainers" don't move along is that it isn't actually THAT bad and actually it is but a minor     le that needs sorting.

FD have been very good at listening and adapting the things they put in the game - have your say sensibly, preferably in the right place (bug forum) where FD can pick it up and discuss it. and then enjoy the game.

If the game is really a GRIND don't play it. OK you don't like engineers, guess what you don't HAVE to do it. I will pre-empt the response to that - no it is not too difficult without the tweaks I have only upgraded thrusters level 2 - ohhh and it is fine, it was even fine with the harder AI.

However I appreciate that it was too hard for some and they nerfed it, not my cup of tea but I will accept it, small     le, I had my say, they went another direction and I will just get on with the game I love - I will not sit here screaming that the game is dead and I am leaving because there is a small thing I don't like!

Without the guys screaming the sky is falling everytime there is an bug or something they don't like , there wouldn't be any white knights.
