The Xbox One Commander Diaries

OK so this is my first venture into this game, I've played other space sims and have always thoroughly enjoyed space combat, I love the physics (or lack of) in space.

My story,
I'm just a lone hunter that is always looking for people doing wrong, me and my favored Eagle have gone from one end of "Hudson" space to the other already, running and gunning as we go. One particular fight I remember was I was lounging near a star, think I had just finished refueling, when three contacts show up on my sensors, so of course I go check them out, turned out to be two 'Condas and a Vulture from the local wanted circle. Now this sounded a little outa my league, but it had been a good day so I decided to close in and open up on them. Went pretty good for the first, oh, four seconds. I started with the vulture because it seemed like it would give me the most trouble. I was very wrong, his two friends rounded on me and started lighting me up. Just when i start planning my funeral I see my target and one of the anacondas start getting hammered, I mean hard. In about two minutes all thats left is one limping anaconda when I get a chance to look at my saviors, local security showed up in force, and I lived to fight another day.

I love this job.

There's an autodocker?

I manage ok but I have this one friend(we all have that -one- friend haha) who finds docking a struggle. Might have to mention it to him :D

I was leaving a station tonight and one the security ships scanned me from close range. It completed the scan and as it veered away, it bumped into me and then I get a fine for 'reckless flying'!! Cheeky , that NPC pilot had one drink too many I think.

I like docking. Just like i like driving. I am a hands on person, put your landing gear down if you boost by accident. Before you get to the entrance hold B press down, this way if you boost by accident you can maybe save your life....maybe Yes we all have done the face plant trust me. Even more so due to the landing gear being the same basic button.

So when we have planet landing i bet they will take into consideration how many of you use auto docking, and they will be like. Oh well seems the console gamers can't even handle docking in a station or they just can't be bothered so we definitely won't let them land on a planet themselves so lets just do a video of them landing haha they won't mind.

Auto everything, no more manual cars, auto parking, auto everything soon i won't have to eat, they will have an auto for that too. :0 Fly safe commanders see ya in the black

Just decided to redistribute my assets so sold my smugling Db Explorer for a smugling Cobra & a T6 and was able tu fully set up both how I wanted. Now I just want to know how good or bad credit income is on regular buy low sell high trading?

I got out of the sidewinder, into an eagle and into a Viper today. Started making good money and outfitting the ship to do a bit of smuggling and bounty hunting. Enjoying it so far. Can finally navigate the stars semi efficiently so I don't feel like I'm being held up by anything. It was a good day.

Upgraded the weapons on my Cobra, added extra cargo space, dumped the refinery & mining laser. Mining was fun but more cargo and superior firepower is more important for me now. Got my first kills last night, with Fed-assist.

I can't stop playing this game. Addictive stuff. Spent around an hour plotting out an multi-stop trade route. Not too far away from purchasing a Type-6 now, but I will keep the Cobra.

Bought a Viper today. Sold it 10 minutes later. Why do people praise it so? Horrible weapon placement for the mediums and even combining FA on and FA off flight with the verticle thrusters and all other trick's I could think of were not enough to convince me it's good for anything other than it's speed(not much better than Db Scout) and shield's(again not much better than Db Scout).

I used to swear by the viper on the pc, but since I got my grubby mits on a vulture I have had to change my opinion lol.
That been said I still think the viper is a good entry level combat ship (well that and the eagle), yes the gun emplacements are not crackin' but it still kills things pretty fast and can punch above its weight.

I guess but with Cobra & Scout so close in initial price I cannot justify buying it myself. I guess it's because Cobra's got the toughness(if you build right) and speed and Scout got the combat effeciency and speed and much better manuvering.

True, I was using the viper before the Db class came out and at the time I just couldn't bring myself to buy a cobra (every man and his dog had one at the time and I like to be different lol). That being said I had a cobra on the xbox 1 and loved it lol

Headed out to Gateway in search of a particularly nasty terrorist, on whose head there was a nice bounty. When I found him, he was in an unshielded Python, but he had two escorts (one of whom had a master rating) in an Eagle and a Sidewinder. I was in a Viper, and soon learned that I was not going to be able to slug it out in a dogfight with all three of them shooting at me.

Since a Viper is fast, I thought I'd try to fight like a Mig-25 pilot, making high speed passes. This fight taught me as much about this game, and how great it is, as all my previous hours combined. I had to make the most of my ship's flight characteristics, manage my energy, boost at the right times, the whole nine yards.

The bad guy wing had chewed my hull down to about 50% in a hurry before I realized I needed to change my game plan. I boosted away, all power to engines, then put all power to systems to get my shield back up as soon as possible. I ran out of chaff fending off the occasional missile, but once I'd made enough space and gotten some shields back, 'Id turn and make a multicannon run on the main target. Took a while, and I was down to 15% hull by the time I'd taken him out, but man, what a fight. What a game!

Just did my first attempt at bounty hunting(karma work to offset smuggling's bad karma ;) ), and decided to go to a HI RES. Man my Scout was flying circles around everything, I wasn't even touched after I got through with the Clipper I hadn't worried about at first as I was murdering his sidewinder wingman. He didn't even get my shields to half before hiss hip was space scrap.

Final preparations have been made, and the ground crew at Hotel Vogelsang Outpost have gone over the ship one last time, and installed a brand new AFMU onto my diamondback explorer.

A little under 1 mil in credits kept aside for my family.... if something were to.... just in case... I dont want them to .... lets not think of that....

The local merchants have come to know me at the outpost, having been my destination for some time - shipping large amounts of the famous Diso Ma Corn for the restaurants of this popular holiday destination.
They all know my intention of heading out into the black, and I have seen the looks on their faces change - some show wonder, others have looks of sadness - like I might never be coming back.

I poured over the star maps (and what little navigational data I could lay my hands on) again last night. My initial trip is just over 2000 ly.... the first leg was plotted by the ships computer, and my destination is Wredguia JC-M D7-5 (just under 1000 ly away). The AI says it will take us 33 jumps to make that trip. "Us" I have already begun to think of the ship's AI as a friend - it will be the only other voice I hear for some time...

I remember the feeling as I requested clearance to launch.... fear and excitement... getting to grips with the slight changes to the ships handling now that the mass of her has changed. Slipping out of the dock and into space.

10 jumps later and I have set down on a water world in what was an unexplored system. The binary stars are setting on the horizon and I can hear the sound of the native life come alive for the night cycle. The twin world is rising into the sky (another water world with carbon-based life).

I need to sleep now and rest... Since leaving the outpost I have discovered 4 unexplored systems..... if I ever get back they will have my name associated with them for future explorers... that is if nothing happens to me.... my dreams are trouble with a looming disaster called "The Wipe" as I sleep......

.....

My dreams of being consumed by the dreaded "wipe" black hole are slowly erased as a strange sound breaks into my sub-conscious.

I stir and rise up out of my bunk and move forward to the cockpit - it takes my eyes a few moments to adjust and realise what I am seeing.... RAIN!

All my life I have live in space - either on stations, outposts, or the snug fit of a ship..... I have never actually seen or heard rain in my life - that pitter patter on the hull strikes deep into my body. I stare in wonderment for a while before looking at the sensors.

Breathable atmosphere; gravity a little below earth.

A reckless thought takes hold and I move the the access hatch.... my hand hovering over the release.... There is a dull clank as I press the button and the ramp lowers.... the smell of wet "earth" and water hits me... I am the first human to step onto this pristine water world and I let the rain penetrate me.... for a long while I just stand there feeling more alive then I have in all my long life.

Eventually it stops and I sit on the ramp eating from a food pack, taking in the smell and sights of this world. Overhead its twin is setting and the local star raising. I will need to bring my family out here, so they can experience this.... if I make it back.

I walk around the ship making a visual inspection - just to make sure no local life has decided to nest in an exhaust port or intake... I make my way over to a pool of water and scoop some up - a memento to show my kids. And then I go back inside and leave this beautiful world, and system.

I just put back the money for an Xbox Elite controller, so after I get it I'll let you all know if it's worth the price from my perspective. I'm still not sure if it will be myself, but decided to just go for it. If anyone's interested of course. :)

I got back on this at the weekend, having finished Arkham Knight.

I swapped my Sidewinder for a Hauler so I could make some money smuggling slaves, drugs, and weapons. I had told myself I'd avoid doing anything bad, but, well, the money was too good...

Tonight I decided to try a rare trade run from Diso to Fujin, having read various people saying how good it is trading rares.

Traded my discovery scanner for a fuel scoop, to cut down on re-fuelling for the long journey to Fujin.

It was all going well until I flew too close to a star on one of my jumps, causing my cargo hatch to malfunction and lose all but 1t of my precious rares :(

Then, finally, I made it to Fujin. The station was ahead, and I was getting closer and closer, and almost ready to request permission to dock.

And then... "LOST CONNECTION TO SERVER".

AGH!

Quit. Restarted.

"LOST CONNECTION TO SERVER".

No! :(

Then XBL seemed to die...

Now, 20 minutes later, XBL seems to be back, so I'll see if I can actually dock at Fujin... and sell my 1t of rares.

Interesting tidbits of my experience so far:

- My longest round trip was a 500ly exploration mission. Did that 5 days ago in a maxed out Diamondback Scout. Got 1st discoveries on over 20 systems.

- After mining 5 tons of material, I decided to retire from mining. All "manual," I did not use limpets.

- I have only one PK so far. Came from a combat zone where the other CMDR joined the opposite faction. It didn't end well for that CMDR.

- 6 Insurance claims so far, totaling 3,550,384. The highest one was for my Fer-de-Lance. The insurance for that particular configuration was just over 3.1mil.

- I have spent 149,026,534 on outfitting ships. I've tried almost all the small ships. Favorite small ships so far: Diamondback Scout, Imperial Courier, and Vulture.
