The year is 2020 and Elite Dangerous is still P2P. Let's discuss PvE and PvP servers.

Um, I'm not a noob yet I play in Solo. Not all the time but mostly.
I just like to have the Galaxy to myself. Without them peoples.
On a side note, would you mind explaining why? I'm genuinely curious why people continue playing in solo after the "noob" stage of their careers.

Most players I know regularly switch to solo to grind.

Sometimes I just don't want to interact & will use solo as a sort of 'do not disturb' sign. I'll use group if I'm sharing wing rewards (either way) with non-open playing friends.

Some people just aren't looking for any interaction I guess, obviously I haven't met them to ask why ;)

I can possibly explain my reasoning. I simply only do it while mining. It's to avoid having to deal with gankers in my unarmed, ill equipped mining ships. And that's mostly in places where there are heavy griefer (or ganker) presence. If I am running missions with cargo or whatever, I play open. Pretty much play open for anything.

I could certainly accompany you into the rings for a reasonable cut - Yarr. I'll even sort out those NPCs that appear out of thin .. er .. space :)

Spending 10 seconds getting melted because I have no engineered combat ship might be entertaining to some but it isn't to me. Neither is 20 minutes faffing about popping shield cells like they're smarties entertaining to me.

I understand, just kidding there -

the way I fly and the distance I only travel it matters very little, but I made a different calculation.

I like this game, and there's really no reason for me to not contribute to it, even if only by being a fleeting, hollow icon moving across someone else's screen :)

Because I don't like people and I don't want them in my game, Simple really.
Do you enjoy the solitude?
I always loved Fallout 3 compared to the other Fallout games because the large map made it feel like I was alone and human (NPC) life was more rare to find.

I understand not wanting to get shot at by other players but I'm curious if there are players that enjoy playing in solo for the same reason I enjoyed Fallout 3

Possibly because they want to play the game their way, not the way that they'd have to play if they played among those who want to shoot at them.
I understand that. I'm more curious about players like Leo, that enjoy the solitude. I find that fascinating.
I love seeing the different ways people play this game.

I want no interruptions in my solitude, not even to o7 someone. I come here for ‘company’, I play the game to escape it.

Same. I do actually play in Open because sometimes avoiding other players is fun, but yeah I totally get this.

I grew up before online gaming was much of a thing. Having an actual friend round to play a game is one thing, the game is really incidental to socialising. But interacting closely with complete strangers in my quiet downtime is like inviting some random in off the street to watch me eat my dinner.

Also, I kinda suck at computer games. I don't play Elite as some highly skilled ego-stroke (never touched FA-off in 6 years of playing), I'm happy just bumbling around trying different things... so active PvP combat is a level of focus and intensity above what I'm comfortable with while playing, and co-operative play where I'm expected to actually meet someone else's expectations... it's just a hassle.

Escaping interdictions and avoiding gankers, I do enjoy somewhat. Just the threat of them existing adds some spice. But I totally get why you wouldn't want someone else in your game.
