They have botched this update so bad that i wonder if it will end the game

I always expect problems when a patch is released. The same will happen with Fleet / Personal Carriers and the huge 2020 update. Give it a week or two and things will go back to normal, usually. The good thing to remember is that we are not on a subscription model with Elite. You are not losing real money during shaky days. :)

I paid for a game I expect to be able to play... when I bought the game almost 2 years ago, it worked. It had some bugs but they were few and far between. And they didn’t break major parts of the game play.

I paid for it upfront, with the expectation that since the publisher would not allow me to run my own copy, and would not let me opt out of updates, that they would keep up their end of the contract by keeping me a game that would work, and was checked for quality prior to release, especially when new additions were made. I could care less about new material. I bought the base, played it for 5 months, and when I got ready, I then bought Horizons since I wanted to land on planets. I might do the same thing with the next paid update, then again after the fiascos of the April and September updates this year, I might not.

Anytime I don’t get to play it since I can’t log on, or the game becomes unplayable due to bugs, and the publisher forces me to accept this state, then I’m losing value. Like you said it might not be “real money” but then what is? I paid upfront for a service that is flawed beyond recognition to the service provided just 2 years ago.

And Dont pull that it’s “Maintenance Mode” stuff... Maintenance of what? Why are they adding all this crap if we are just trying to “maintain”? They wouldn’t be making all the changes if they were truly maintaining. They would have invested in bug fixes and current content to make the bridge into the next paid update. Not ARX.

I paid and I expect a game that works and is available to play whenever I want. Anytime that isn’t the case I have lost value in my purchase, no matter how much I paid.

This type of problem with updates is becoming so pervasive in the games industry with half-baked code, introduction of gimmicky storefronts, and lack of QA, it seems we are just to accept it as a matter of fact. It shouldn’t be. If I wanted to play “Fallout 76 with Spaceships”, I would’ve just waited until Bethesda let me buy a Cutter with Atoms.

All of my stored engineered modules are now not engineered....game breaking if you ask me. Been on board for over 3 years and this might be the last straw. Say whatever saltiness you might have....doesn’t Change the fact that I have 1000’s of hours, 100’s (if not $500+) into this game and I might of just lost a ton of what I have done.

I can understand your frustration. Then again... how much did you pay and how much time did you spend in the game that you enjoyed? I mean... I have over 10k hours in this game to this date. Never, ever, had a game that cost $11 on a sale to even give me 20 hours worth. I am not here to argue... I just try to say what I am seeing and "feeling". I actually hate the word feeling... because... feelings hurts my thoughts. :D

I don't think your engineered stuff is gone, it just doesn't show it's engineered.
But engineering, at the engineer, is broken, doesn't work.
Oh as is mining, don't.

But rejoice, we've got a brand new BLUE button in the station services screen that says STORE, how fitting, in a space station.

I understand what you're saying but then again does that justify the poor quality Fdev is producing and doing so little about it?
The bugs just keep piling up.
Imho no matter what you payed or how many hours you played, well that's not true, imho if you've played for so many hours I think the devs should try their best to ensure a good product towards such loyal customers.

I think there's no excuse for sloppiness.

I appreciate your support for the game. In fact I’d say we have that in common, even if we express it in different ways. It’s one of the things I enjoy about this community of Pilots. Sorry for the rant. The frustration should not be aimed your way, and in that I must “mea culpa.”

No worries. I can be frustrated myself at times... trust me on that. But all in all, I think Elite: Dangerous is one of the greatest games ever made. I mean... when I turn my VR headset on... I am "really" a space pilot to do whatever I want in a sandbox of space.

That said... this update could've been smoother...

Developers who wear shorts on the job and expose their shaggy legs to the public cannot be trusted.
Trusted with what. It not like they are writing software for a aircraft or a nuclear power plant. It a computer game. The bugs will be squash and we will move and we won't die.

I also would like to know what FD screwed up this time. So far, by watching streams etc, I havn't seen anything bad going on. What am I missing, OP?
Engineering and mining is kind of broken. Engineering is pretty much impossible to do, the interface locks up completely when you try, and you need to exit the game to the main menu to get out of it.
When mining, the server disconnects you as soon as your collector limpets delivers a fragment to your refinery.
Edit: My browser bugged out somehow and didn't indicate there were several pages of the thread, I see now that your question has already been answered.

You're lucky.

Still not buying anything.

Depends on how you play I guess, but I just finished my to-do list for the day and ended up with 222 ARX points, about half of which were from accumulating & selling around 16m Cr in exploration data (while mission running).

I did a pretty normal (for me) spread of combat, trade & in-bubble exploration, and the only bugs I came across were some missing titles on some USSs, the station icon when targeted from supercruise having the letterbox on the wrong side and some stuttering framerate returned that had not been as bad immediately pre-patch but no worse than it was a couple of months ago (imo related to persistent planetary POIs).

I don't wish to diminish or deny that others are having problems but this is far from the worst update we've had. It may be feature-poor and the new UI features lack finesse but my experience tonight is a far cry from the mess of instance failures and CTDs we saw immediately after 3.3, or the headline-making bugged AI changes of 2.1.

This won't end the game. The biggest issue I have is the stored modules, and having to equip all 115 of them (until my eyes bleed) to get the engineering mods to come back. I could care less about store bugs as they will be fixed and they aren't wasting my time.

The only time we'll have to worry about the game ending is if Fleet Carriers and the 2020 update are both horribly botched. If that happens many people will probably start to lose interest.

Got the september update and whent to mine, as soon as I started getting my limpets to collect the game crashed with error code BLACK ADDER. Repeated 3 times same thing happened with the same error so whent to PvP first round ok the second round the screen went dark couldnt see anything but can hear the thrusters and booster when used. Turned plastation off and went to bed. VERY ANNOYING!!!.
