They have botched this update so bad that i wonder if it will end the game

I'll reiterate what I said previously.

1. If you're not expecting the update to touch completely unrelated portions of the game. Chances are Frontier are just as surprised as you. For a store update and adding a new tutorial, who would think to check module storage engineering visibility and starport hologram orientation?

Difference is, they created this spaghetti coded monster, we paid money for it. Not to mention both issues could be discovered by playing the game for 30 minutes.

2. This one is crucial: some bugs don't manifest until the update is pushed to the live servers.

And the thing is, we don't know what FD tested prior to release. It all could've been working fine right up until they turned the servers back on.

Maybe, maybe not. If this was indeed true, then maybe they should look at the test servers (lol, test, lol) to ensure they mirror the live ones more closely. More likely, they didn't test this sufficiently, or at all.

The Sollbruchstelle describes a part where it should break if too much pressure is applied.
Here we have random breaks at parts that allegedly aren't even touched.
I think a better german term would be "bemühte sich stets" ("constantly endevoured"),
a term mostly used in characters which describes very bad work results in positive words.

I think 'verschimmbessert' fits best ;)

Because theres so many people realising that 4/5 years of mining, trading and exploration and half baked story is only leading to 4/5 years more of the same! They need new players so they can get 4/5 years from them.....they cant expand on elite anymore the engine wont allow it...cmdrs hoping and wishing for legs an atmo's its never going to happen!
Time to squeeze every penny we can from it before we move on.....

This will age well...

This is supposed to be a humor thread I hope. It is so hard to tell sometimes. There are a couple of issues that seem quite fixable but they have messed up way worse in the past then this.

Take a coupe valliums, get some bed rest and things will be right as rain in a day or two.

I was posing it as a serious possibility.
Put yourself in Frontiers shoes. You have a game that is so complex that the updates are buggy messes, you cant afford to put your best team on it, because they are working on other projects (that presumably bring in more money) and the updates are so bad that the rep damage is spilling over to your other properties.
Honestly if it were me i would be tempted to pull the plug, just from a long term profitability perspective, but i would try to suck all the cash out of it first, maybe with a big blue store button.

Then let me give a serious answer: none of this matters, because the codebase is getting a major overhaul next year and they are selling the game until then for peanuts. The rep damage has never materialized outside these forums as literally all other FD products have been wildly successful. ED is also FD's best performing product, bringing in piles of money. All your concerns and anxiety originates solely without your own head. For the next 12 months ED will remain in something of a limbo state. That is annoying for us, so I can understand if people simply do other stuff until Next Era lands if they are bored with the game as is. But any longer-term concerns are silly.

But I believe you've had these concerns for quite a while now, so this all feels a bit like groundhog day.

You would have a point if you wouldn't ignore the major update scheduled for next year.

So like everyone is going to come rushing back to Elite after next year? Lols. They've proved after yesterday they just don't have the chops for it. A small update, they made a complete backside of it.

They obviously dont have their A team working on elite and this update seems to indicate that they are trying to milk the players for what cash they can get.
Have they screwed it up so bad that it would cost more money to fix it than they think its worth?

now you realized that, i already did year ago.. wait didnt the leak say "ED have to keep making money during downtime while we develop all these other games" ???

Every community Im a part of was sliced in half, some worse, with this update. I pray the game can recover because nobody I know is gonna buy a paid update, major content or not, after these last 10 months of failure.

No, my confused friend. Let me explain how reality works for normal people:

1) Play games you enjoy
2) Stop playing when you no longer enjoy it
3) Consider giving it another shot if there is an update for the game you used to enjoy

That is why games like ED and NMS tend to have large spikes when updates arrive. That doesn't mean that 'everyone comes rushing back', but it does mean that many will check it out. That is why NMS had about 5-6k active players, which ballooned to 60k after the patch, and is now back to 6k. Clearly not everyone came 'rushing back' to NMS, but many did check it out.

Oh well, we're approaching year #5 of you telling everyone they really done it this time, and it is all over soon. :ROFLMAO:

No, it didn't say that. It said that they are investing heavily in the 2020 update, and that meanwhile ED is basically cruising along for some additional revenue without getting major intermittent update till Next Era. Which is not confirmed, but so much common sense that anyone and their dog could 'predict' that.

But nice try.

Show me one post, where Is said 'they done it this time'...

I have said they've messed up many times, because yes, they messed up.

Elite is far from 'done this time, but you'd have to be a fool to think it'll last forever. What I actually implied but I'll say straight out so you might better able to comprehend, is;

If a company messes up so bad, so often, with even small patches like yesterdays, then one has to wonder how competent they are. And it does not bode well for the next major release.

That in no way implies there will not be a next release. It does mean I wouldn't credit them with the professionalism to be able to release it without it being a pile of bug ridden dung.

But yes, go on, I challenge you, show me one post where I said they 'really done it this time'.. I'll wait ;)
