They have botched this update so bad that i wonder if it will end the game

Elite is far from 'done this time, but you'd have to be a fool to think it'll last forever.

Ah, thanks for sharing that nugget. And here we all are, foolishly feeling ED will last until the sun explodes! And yeah yeah, you question their professionalism, their skills, their output, they are incompetent poopypants and so on. Great, thanks for sharing as usual! Looking forward to hearing you claim how ED 6.3 in 2024 really shows they dont have the chops, and that this will definitely damage their reputation and other projects for super serial realz this time.

Give it a rest mate. And no, I am not going to crawl through your thousands of 'they so stupid!' messages. :ROFLMAO:

Hey, no one wants Elite to last until the sun explodes. It will be sufficient if it lasts until I can't play video games any more.

But please please agree that it is a major blunder, that update which presumably should motivate us to spend (more) money on stuffz 😂

:p

Honestly, I dont even bother. I wont be in ED until at least after the weekends, been here long enough to know its a pathetic crapshow every single time. And as always, they put their game on a massive sale just before the update, so the first experience of players is a terrible crap show. Its moronic, but apparently it is good enough.

Lol, we've all seen your posts for years mate, but whatever. I'm off for lunch. Not gonna tell you what it is, or you'll start yelling about how the cooks are incompetent, the food should arrive sooner and the place will be in big trouble when they keep it all up. :ROFLMAO:

nah I'm sure your school employs good service :)

By the way, this seemingly unrelated bug kind of shows how development is slightly more complex than some people assume.
Nope, this shows that the codebase is a total spaghetti mess and badly needs refactoring and structuring. As well as a full regression testing and several bugfix passes afterwards. If they want to continue developing this game, of course.
I hope they are doing that in scope of 2020 update because in the current version we see all the signs of barely manageable source code and future updates in its current state will only aggravate the situation.

They obviously dont have their A team working on elite and this update seems to indicate that they are trying to milk the players for what cash they can get.
Have they screwed it up so bad that it would cost more money to fix it than they think its worth?
It won’t kill the game but it has killed my desire to play for the next six months because by the time they fix this mess it’ll be time to fix everything the December update will inevitably break unless they sort their QA out.

In isolation, this update wouldn't be great, but I don't think this particular update is why so many players are upset.

Experienced players have been told to wait until 2H 2020 for core fixes to the game. Many players are burning out in Elite but would love to keep playing if certain things were fixed and some new content was added. I think this is the single biggest fatal mistake that Frontier made. The gap is way too long. I knew right away this would be a huge problem and I was right.

Frontier simply did not have enough trust built up with the playerbase to pull off such a long gap to the next big release. Even if it would be worth it in the long run, they weren't in a position to do it, not with the game in its present state. Instead this just primed many CMDR's in the community for apathy, anger, and/or disappointment. I think this amplifies every other mistake that Frontier makes, even smaller ones. Frontier needed to put more resources into fixing the parts of the game that are already there and they were unwilling to finish the job.

So again, In isolation, I don't think most CMDR's would have a problem with improving the new player experience. I do think many CMDR's feel betrayed that this is happening while core elements of the game that need fixing very badly are not being looked at right now. Throw in bone-headed decisions like putting a store button on the station screen (really Frontier?) and you have a crazy firestorm. Frontier kinda deserves this sadly.

If Frontier had been doing more to make the game better for experienced CMDR's alongside their switch to Arx and their push for better onboarding for new players, I think the reaction of the community would have been far different. Because trust is an important form of capital that game studios develop with their playerbase and right now that is in very short supply.

Good luck!

If only they'd had a beta...

If only they'd had a beta...

You say that as if the game wasn't tested at all. See, the issue is most likely that there's been plenty of testing, but nowhere near enough time allocated to actually have those tests come back to development to then make it into fixes and then a second iteration of testing.

I'll tell you right now, to those who keep saying that FD should "get QA". They have them. They are some of the hardest working people, often subjected to hours of crunch to test a patch prior to launch but not given enough time to make that crunch/testing actually worthwhile... so they just end up working themselves into the ground. What it generally then comes down to is time and project management not accounting enough time within a sprint cycle for that second round of fixes before launch. Sadly QA in most companies that I'm familiar with aren't afforded the power to delay a patch release and instead have to do what they can with their limited resources and criminally under-budgeted testing time on a RC that's clearly not ready.
