Things to get done before 3.0 drops

That was the final beta version when we had all engineering rolls as iron. That was to get EVERYTHING maxed out, not just the FSD.
EVERYTHING. MAXED. OUT.

Sounds reasonable. Got to prioritize and then finalize as opportunity appears. Just have to keep the blueprints pinned.

There are a couple nebulae I'm out visiting out in the north east that I'll head back from to give the Engineers another go in 3.0. Will likely just work on my FSDs some more for the time being then, depending on how motivated I am messing with the Engineers.

For just the FSD, in Beta 3, from scratch with high rep it was a total of about 15 rolls to max out the FSD, or about 8 rolls to max out grandfathered in tier 5 FSDs in the new system, on average.

  • FYI, it took over 400 rolls to max out my Chieftain in beta. That is simply far too many, so I'm engineering now to reduce that to a manageable number.

  • This must be one of the QOL improvement frustration developed promised.
One poster(cough) posted the new system was _exponentially_ faster than current live... yeah right.
Interesting that this was one question the laughing, smiling developers chose not to answer in the recent livestream - why we are now required to roll lower grades every time to reach the start of the grade we want. Material traders will help, but it will be a lot of extra materials - to simply throw away.

So tell me then, how many rolls does it need in the old system to get a god roll on every single moddable module of a ship? Because that's close to what "maxing out everything" means.

Oh, and for those wondering maxed out FSD range stats were...

Mass +30.0%
Integrity -21.8%
Power Draw +15.0%
Optimal Mass +61.2%

No idea. I tended to just do one or two rolls at G5 and that was good enough.
As perhaps you imply, the new system may be easier for god-rollers. For the average user my suggestion is that repeating G1-G4 each time to get to G5 is more rolls, material and time.

The only engineering effort I see that should be done before 3 drops is to G5 engineer all components that you already have unlocked but haven’t gotten around to doing. I already did this.

Material gathering won’t change but will give more flexibility with the brokers so there is no need to rush collection.

The engineering unlock progression we have today will still exist. The added per device stepping through each grade takes about the same effort as the unlock for the first item you engineer, I tested this is the Beta and by the time I maxed G1 I had already unlocked G2 for my first effort with a new engineer.

If you have a lot of ships that don’t already have god rolls, I suppose it might be worth grinding out a few more engineers so save the per-device click-through, but I only have three ships and I don’t imagine I will get more than one other. Since they nerfed the only quick way to make Cr I knew of, It is going to be a very long time before I can afford that massive ships.

Possibly an obvious question, but:
- If I go to Farseer now and give a lot of exploration data I get to move up straight to higher grades rather than having to mod G1, G2 etc.
- If I do this before 3.0 arrives, do I keep my relationship level with her?
- If I do this after 3.0 do I get any advancement towards higher levels?

Also what is ETA of 3.0, some time in next month?

If you manage to mod your FSD up to grade 5 (without optimising it once you are there, ie not attempting further mods to improve it) you can take that FSD in 3.0 and it will be rolled back to a top end grade 4. But you get the opportunity (pretty quickly) to engineer that FSD to a higher grade 5 than you had before ... up to an increase of about 62% which is great.

However, you don't automatically start other mods to other FSDs from grade 5 because you achieve grade 5 access to Felicity in 2.4. The mods start at the beginning again (grade 1) unless you have another FSD at grade 5 already (in which case it starts at the top of grade 4).

So all you need is access to the respective engineers .... the grade of access to them disappears ... it is applied instead to the module you are engineering.

ETA unknown.

Well the electric shower needs fixing, sick of lukewarm showers in the morning.

Oh, you mean for ED? Erm....raising enough funds so after I buy T10/T9 upgrades, A-rated Chieftain and spare fuel scoops for storage, I still have well north of 1 billion credits in change.

I was pretty excited for the Chieftain at first, it being somewhere between my Vulture and my Python, but after playing with it for a bit longer in beta, I don't really have much of a viable use for it, unfortunately. I may use it as a bit of a mission runner/material collector, but in general it seems I'd be better served just continuing to use my Vulture and Python for the reasons I use them.

The salt on the cake was the Chieftain's comparatively poor supercruise maneuverability. :(

It got buffed after Beta 3 didn't it? I'm on Xbox so I didn't have access. Still, its a new ship, so I'll buy it. :)

...not play... and then after 3.0 drops... probably continuing with that... :)

My real/main/only hope is 3.3 (& the payable DLC) brings in some content that will interest me...

I suspect a huge number of people who are playing though, are simply doing single G5 rolls on as many modules as possible and storing them...

Scary!

Do you hang out on other forums of games you...don't play? Asking for a friend.

What tasks have you set yourself to complete before 3.0 arrives?

My one task is to take a break. There's really nothing that I want to do in the game right now, knowing that the majority of things I enjoy doing are greatly improved in 3.0, along with all the fixes to the bugs that have been driving me crazy. I played long and hard during the Enigma Expedition, so now is the perfect time for me take a vacation from Elite Dangerous. This will make 3.0 all the sweeter when it finally does release :D

I have also engineered 4 of my ships to DD G5 and did some planetary scan missions to replenish on CIFs but not much luck. I know can keep useless ones to trade with the merchant in 3.0.

Btw, found out all Wartime Surface Target Scan mission now have Private data points and was shot immediately after scan. Also, gained a Wanted status despite not kill any skimmer or ship plus can't stack missions anymore so takes more time to complete.
