Think it might be time to take a break until new content that isn't pew pew comes in!

Sorry to say but I'm starting to get Elite Dangerous exhausted after more than 2 years of playing. I need fresh new content that's very different from what the game offers at the moment.

It just seems to be that apart from exploring everything is pew pew pew focused in some way or another or rince and repeat, even the new missions are no longer cutting it for me. It would be really nice in season 3 to be able customise the inside of my ship, experience something outside of my ship on foot or just do things that don't end up with me shooting pirates or scanning a target.

I have covered tens of thousands of light years exploring, I've taken passengers around the galaxy and I've killed many pirates and been interdicted by many players whilst serving the Federation delivery data, scanning stuff and finding things.

I love the game and I've bought my life time membership but I crave new content!

I thought i would have a break too for a couple of days.. then the days turned into weeks and then to months and you know what im not complaining.

Probably the best decision i made, being away i regained my objective view on things which revealed how badly the game is designed and developed at the moment.

I've been saying it would be nice to have some single-player content (note: "Single-player" is not the same thing as "Solo Mode").

So you'd like a campaign, solo mode *is* single player.

Watching how slow fdevs are developing """new""" content with 90% recycled mechanics from prior updates, I don't think we'll see any campaign. Like, ever. Branching missions maybe, with some VO if we're really lucky, but nothing more than that.

While I *might* agree with you that solo mode is single-player, my point is that single-player isn't necessarily solo mode.

I took a break for a few months.I prefer to trade over other roles. I simply got tired of listening to people making a billion on a couple of weekends when, as a trader, it takes about a year to make that much.

To top it, when I complained people dog piled on me about how easy it is top make credits fast and easy as a trader. Frankly, I got so tired of it, I stopped playing for a while. As it is I will stay out of the teamspeak areas so that I don't have to listen to people making incredible, risk free, sums, making trading seem like a pointless endeavor.

What I mean when I say that it seems pointless is that, in trading, accumulation of wealth, and alliance at various stations, are measures of success. When people are constantly pointing out that trading is, by far, not the best path to either of these, it starts to feel pointless.

Yes, I do think it is a broken game dynamic. However, it is not going to get fixed; I realize that. As such, I am going to simply to avoid being reminded of it by simply staying out of chatrooms where it is made abundantly clear that this part of the game is broken.

In addition, I have stopped playing open. My reason for playing is not to provide a target for other players. I realize that what I am saying is that distancing myself from other players makes this a better game for me; but that is the case.

Where you are now op...I was there over a month ago and it gets easier. Now its just a quick check in on the forums now and then in the very naive belief on my part that Ill read something that will inspire me to play again...sometimes see a thread worth investing half an hour into, but more often than not, its just the same recycled tripe day in day out...the same open v solo rubbish and the same rngeer complaints and the exploration is boring threads. Im an explorer and I can tell ye, its gotten worse because of changes made...granted those changes were unintended, but that doesnt really make it right, just leaves ye less confused as to the reasons why.

And while a fix is hinted at with a grumble of a promise, nobody has any idea when, only thats its not gonna in 2.3...my cup runneth over...

Ill be in andromeda galaxy this time next week with about half my entire friends list there already, and very few have a bad word to say about it which contradicts all thye so called experts in the runup...the gameplay is what matters and apparently, its good. Much as I want this game to inspire me, its simply not delivering the goods and with not even a vague hint at 2.4, there doesnt appear to be much to look forward to either unless its more of the same multi pew nonsense ^

How the hell do Frontier make money? I'm always amazed how many threads there are of people saying they are bored of the game, the game is rubbish, aspects of the game are rubbish so all of them will post, but never play again.

I get most of it, generally it's accompanied by really good reasons. Often it's people who paid their £30/40/50 whatever and got something like 2000 hours gameplay out of it.

So given that it works out at something like half a penny an hour for people, and so many are walking away, how does the game survive? Frontier must be struggling? If we're not careful they'll abandon us and put all the developers onto a new game altogether. I still like the game, I'll be sad.

I too have taken a break, played since beta. Havent really played since December. Have about 550mil in assets. Just waiting for something new.

I still support the game with ship kits etc as I want it to succeed.

Been out for getting on for a month now. Just needed a break from rinse and repeat game play. Happens with most games, going to pop in again once 2.3 drops

Hi cheer up :)
If I were you I would start to utilize , what contacts you have made doing trading. You probably have some sort of network , where you are Allied or friendly with minor factions. Go and do missions for them, preferably in a Python , you want to land at outposts.
Especially Boom missions pay well, and you make even more rep enlarging your network, it is easy, although not completely danger free, and it is within ethical gameplay (no exploits). You will be amazed, how rewarding it can be.

You are not alone Steve. I'm playing much less today than I have since 1.0, mostly due to the neglect of non-combat development. Although I will admit that passenger missions revitalized me for a bit, I enjoy those and when the Dolphin comes out in 2.3 (along with the Orca buffs) I'll probably do some more tourist missions. But I love exploring, and it's actually gotten worse since 2.0 what with the beige-ing and homogenized terrain of most of the planets. What I desperately want in Elite is new and improved game mechanics for non-combat aspects of the game. Unfortunately the game's development since 1.0 hasn't given us that, except for maybe mining somewhat.

I'm already resigned to not buy S3 unless it promises some serious non-combat development. I'll take an extended break from the game instead and play other things while I wait for the parts of the game I want to play to get developed.

Playing less Elite has been kinda nice though, I finally got around to finishing Shadows of Mordor, I'm playing more Minecraft and Kerbal Space Program again, and Season 10 of Diablo III starts soon, lol! And like Ziggy Stardust, I've been playing more Civ 6 lately than Elite Dangerous.

Theres supposed to be some big update coming in the next month or two.

Shame that from what I've seen little resembles actual content, escpecially of the long lasting variety.

Did you even read the guy's post? :S

Was in a similar situation, luckily I have an ace up my sleeve called the Fuel Rats. Almost never a dull moment with them.

If I get tired of that I'll sign up with the Elite Racers or Buckyball or Hammers of Slough for another few rounds.

Player groups are whats keeping me in the game and about on the forums and reddit at the moment. Sadly I think the time it takes to develop new stuff is a mere fraction of the time it takes to play through it. I expect within 12 months I'll have Elite on the back burner and be checking in once every 2 months or so instead of every day/week. Ah well, theres so many other games I neglected the past 2 years that I can give some love again. Elite has given me many the joyous hour and took over my life for the best part of 2 years, never expected it to last that long and I haven't given up on it yet by any standards.

Keep flying if you can, if not park up and remember where you left the keys. The beauty is that you may come back to something different if you leave it. As I said at the start of this post I do agree but have a few reasons to keep going at the moment :)

I'm not there yet, but I have similar concerns for the future. At the moment I'm being kept entertained mainly by buying and engineering new ships. Once I run out of ships my will to play is going to depend on player-run expeditions and hopes for future content which isn't pew pew.
