This Core Dynamics concept ship looks awesome, can we have it please FDev?

No. What we need is for the alliance to actually build a ship. Any ship will do but using outdated/commercially available models for everything and being outclassed by both fed and imp ships isn't a winning game if you want to maintain independence

Fanatic terrorist from the middle east have been doing this for quite some time.
Guerilla fighters in Africa, Southeast Asia, and even in Eastern Europe have all held out against more modern technology for quite some time as well.

The Alliance is little different in that respect - holding off more modern technology with older technology by means of tactics, skill and tenacity.

I thought it was the first concept of the Vulture.

I don't think it is a concept for any of the existing ships because;

  • It has an advanced stage, fully detailed concept (early concepts tend to be more sketchy or black and white)
  • It is distinctly larger than a Vulture, smaller than a Corvette, and has the wrong livery to be an early concept of any of the Federal Dropships
  • It has the name code of 'FHK' which probably means 'Federal Hawk' (Hawk appeared in Frontier: Elite 2). All the Core Dynamics ships have a name code relating to their model. Vulture's is FVU, Corvette's is FCV etc...
  • It's too good a concept to morph into something that doesn't look as good...
  • I don't think Core Dynamics would let Zorgon Petersen out-do them in end-game combat ships, as it is their focused area

The trouble is - if we need one ship in the game, it's the imperial medium combat ship.
You feds've had enuff.

(not saying that this ship doesn't look awesome, of course. It they, for example, replaced FDS with this, making it a smaller Python, I'd be okay with that)

Thats basically the Clipper, it's just large due to the Nacelles.

Has anyone pointed out that this looks very much like an early mockup of a Corvette?

Of course that could be the case, but it would also be a cool ship in its own right.
The Clipper could be seen as an early mockup for the Cutter :).

Looks like the love child of a Python and a Vulture, quite like it :p.

I was going to say Vulture and FdL.

I guess the problem, from the dev's POV, is that it really is just going to be a FdL (or Python, depending on it's size) in new clothes.
Whatever you could do with it, you could probably already do it with an existing ship.
That being the case, I guess FDev might be more interested in creating ships which fill entirely new roles.

This has the potential to be so incredibly sexy. Hell, a good chunk of the concept art is incredibly sexy. What the hell happened between concept and game for us to get some of these designs? We went from sleek and sexy to bulbous with a design philosophy more akin to the 1980's Toyota lineup than ships 2000+ years advanced.

Oh wait.. hah.. 1980's looks.. That's right. This game is perpetually stuck in the 80s.

that is certainly a looker........ i get what someone else mentioned about needing another imperial ship.. the thing is really the drop ship/assault ship and gun ship are all really only 3 variants of the same frame and i think its a stretch to call them 3 ships.

indeed i would have no problem with their being different variants of say the imperial clipper for instance. inc 1 with an SLF, but that limited the ship in other areas, just like the FGS.
(indeed this is just like real life, my 2013 nissan qashqai came in all sorts of variants, 5 seater, 7 seater, 2WD, 4WD, petrol, diesel, high power diesel but all were the same vehicle essentially.

There is the 'Alliance Defense Force' in the lore, with a fleet and command structure drawn from the forces of member systems. There's plenty of wealthy systems in the Alliance that could justifiably commission Alliance-specific designs. Since there's no means in the game to rank up with the ADF, how about adding a twist - that to get Alliance specific designs your ranks with the other two superpowers must be LOW enough :)

Why would they do that though. The Alliance doesn't need it. Why waste all the capital on R&D on ships that would just be side grades to their current fleet and subject to nerfs and constant adjustments because pilots are arguing about arbitrary time to kill other pilots.

Aye, but the Hawk from FE2 bears absolutely no resemblance whatsoever to the ship in the OP.

True enough.

The Imperial Courier in ED doesn't bear any resemblance with the original either.

FDev will re-imagine certain ships if they do not fit well into ED as they did in previous incarnations.

It's still recognisable as the Imp Courier, though. This Hawk, if that is indeed what it was called, looks like a different ship from the Old Skool Hawk. Anyway, my point is that there is a wealth of already existing Elite universe ships which it would be great to see modernised - there's no need to go inventing new ones from scratch all the time.
