this game coding is brutal

I've already admitted I made a mistake several posts back. Do try to keep up; it's awfully frustrating listening to a broken record.

Not only does pause not work in solo, the game version OP was playing, it is not even called the "Main Menu", it is called the "Pause Menu".
What?

Stop blaming other people because of your stupid mistakes.
What?

One really does have to wonder.

Unless one gives it some real thought... no, one does not have to wonder.
The command is called "pause" it's hotkey is P, one assumes the pause command pauses. It is misleading, and if one doesn't use it at all, one will never know such. Getting to a T9 doesn't change this fact in the slightest.

It's named correctly, you hit pause and the game pauses your ingame flight/ship controls until you unpause them.

I read the OP and the other comments... my brain exploded. People who thinks they are using common sense need common sense. @.@

Does seem a very harsh lesson to learn. I did it once but was in a sidey so didnt lose too much. You can recoup 10m in 2 hours? You are doing well.

What phone call could possibly be more important that making money in ED? :)

That's the best part of the ED forums, there's always something weird going on or being discussed. It's a great way to fill in some time every now and then.

The lucky thing about this is that it'll take you at lot less time to recoup losses in a t9 than someone who lost a mid range ship.
They should probably just relabel the pause menu as "game options" or something.
The game doesn't pause in the galaxy map, either, but there's fewer moans about that, probably because it's not called "pause and enter galaxy map".

As a DM of an online world it was quite easy to pause the whole server. By default, pause was tied to the space bar, so you would start entering chat, but miss the enter button, and you type like crazy, causing the server to start/stop every time you hit space.

Then you realize what you have done and have to shout to the playerbase your apologies.

We once had a DM acccidentally pause the game for about 5 mins when they didn't realize they had done it.

You guys!

OP is not dumb. Of course there are better methods of leaving the game to take care of real world priorities but.....

An in game feature that is labelled pause that doesn't (and cannot) pause is about as smart programming as the majority of replies here. Not good enough Frontier.

Single Player Online doesn't say anywhere that it will allow to pause. There's no pause. Log off - in fact it is very quick op - and finish your duties. It is much safer that way too (no accidental button presses while doing other things).

Solution = remove the "Pause" button bind in the controls menu.

Seriously tho, who actually thinks that would work on an online, persistent, open world game?

The amount of hate here is astounding.

I really agree with OP and see no reason why the pause key could not actually pause the game when in solo mode. IMO this is a feature that should of been implemented.

No pause in open/group play is normal and expected, but in solo? From day one I wondered why the game could not simply pause when i press ESC, like every other single player experience. Ie., if my wife/child wants to ask me something, I see no reason why would I have to log out of the game or park the vehicle before giving them my attention. It's not like the OP deserved the "carebear" bashing you gave him, wth is with you people, chillax.

If I recall correctly training missions can be paused. There probably is some instancing reason/whatever why extended pause cannot work even while in solo, but it still does not mean lack of this basic quality of life option is good in a game that has what is basically a "single player" mode.

It's a backdrop setting; that's how it's built, and it's not a very pleasant place. Individual human life isn't valued very highly unless there's money involved. We're allowed by legal channels to purchase equipment that lets us hunt down and kill other people for money without a badge or a licence; or you can simply use the kit to live a life of murder and piracy. Slavery is an integral part of the Empire, and uprisings over it are brutally repressed. The Federation bombed a whole planet just to stop people from getting high.

Extinction avoidance and technological advancement have precious little to do with the morals and values of a human race a millenium from now after spanning thousands upon thousands of star systems.

I understand that it is dangerous per the fluff. But so is the Galaxy of Star Wars. But Han Solo didn't get blown up by Mos Eisley space port authorities because he spent too much time talking to Jabba. lol

You are right of course...........I mean, it's crazy.....so why put a Pause button in there, called Pause....at all?> Hell, I can even press "P", and it "Pauses"...............it threw me for the first few days.
...
Who would have thought, that a game, on a computer, using hard coded pure logic, would have a complely miss named button that says "Pause", which in fact, pauses nothing........... even though it acts like it pauses..... the screen goes dark, the sound fades away and all the Pause menus pop up...........lol.
...
I geuss it would make perfect sens for that big red button on my stick that says "Fire" to actually deliver flowers, choclates and gold to my enemies.........

Well the thing is that solo isn't exactly singleplayer, it keeps you isolated from other players, but you're still connected to the same galaxy simulation. It can't feasibly be paused and considering you can save and quit at any time...I don't see the problem. OP says his call was important and needed to be addressed immediately, but 'save and quit to menu' is ONE mouse click away so....

This thread should have been called "You Guys Will Argue About Anything."

my god people. Why even respond to this sort of shenanigans?

And look at that. You got me to respond with my massive facepalm.

The OP is not the first to have this happen, and IMHO it is silly to have big bold letters say 'pause' when it isn't actually pausing anything. Then again, it takes about 2 seconds to go to the main menu so once you know it it isnt much a problem. But I still think it would be better if Frontier changed 'paused' into 'warning: not paused'.
