PvP This is why the incoming law enforcement buff and penalties can't come soon enough.

There should be room for both in my opinion. ED as a sci fi virtual life simulator would be incredibly boring and not something I would call a video game. Likewise ED as a pure arcade game with no attempt at world building would also be boring.

A balance between the two is necessary.

oh sure... I agree... but it it where on that scale to put the pin in which is the problem... and I would say the current direction is far far closer to fantasy than the scifi genre that i hoped for ("engineers" esp with the sideeffects were a massive shock to me personally)

Its all very meh. About what, twenty or so people got griefed in mobius in three years? So its really nothing. Except people screamed and yelled and cried very very hard. "A friend of mine saw on reddit a link to a post of someone who got shot in Mobius!!!!! I will never play again!!!!". Which was all the griefers were after anyway. Open is pretty darn safe as well, been poodling around Maia for weeks now in small ships and not a single incident.

Its a big galaxy filled with extremely loud moaning. :)

Just visit a CG and you'll for sure find a griefer after an hour or so.

Probably because what you want is WoW, not Elite. Elite is supposed to be dark, grim, unforgiving. Listen to DB describe the universe, read the novels. Way worse stuff happens in there than blowing up a sidey. This 'solution' you like so much is what is lazy and cheap, and creates an artificial constraint on the universe. Heck, what even is the problem here, besides some ruffled feelies? Did you lose a sidewinder to something when you started? Did it matter? "Oh no, I have to grab a new free sidewinder which costs exactly 0cr", said noone ever. People just starting out wont even know it is a human, never mind have heard of SDC. Or care. They get blown up. They restart and try again. You know where all the whining and moaning about poor sealclubbing happens? In the DD forums. You know where it doesnt happen? The newcomer forums. Guess why?

SDC is annoying on general principle, but in the end they are just a small group of losers with effectively zero impact on anyone. Outside of forums, that is.

I would not expect a high sec system to be just as grim as an anarchy system.

Why hasn't this thread been shunted off to the PvP subforum yet? Yet another thread where a few top PvPers are offering to help teach and advise and a whole bunch of PvEers screeching and flinging excrement in between a chorus of "Just go to Mobius where the bad people can't hurt you anymore!"

Any issues with Mobius or is it that you don't like one sided papers?

I said "offering advice and help." Obviously people are more interested in the screeching and throwing fecal matter than going anywhere constructive with it. I'll offer a piece of advice of my own: all you players who don't like the blockading should band together and go do something about it--even a herd of Zebras can be pretty scary when they all stampede in the same direction;)

So where is the offer here?

I only mention it because I have a problem with the selective moderation. On the other hand I truly think the forums here have become super frickin boring since the the rearrangement a few weeks ago, and I miss these fun little forum tug o wars. I mean, without screeching about PvP, what's left? Complaining about the LEP's?

I thought you disliked PvP complains...

Maybe I'm reading too much between the lines, but it looks like some of the PvPers are trying to provoke commanders to fight back? It's like they are killing newbies in the hope it will spur a fight back from more experienced players, presumably because they want a bit of competition? (Of course, there are as still many who just enjoying spoiling peoples' fun and bullying - those are beyond hope).

Personally I'd love to go to Erevate and stand up to these guys. The trouble is - I'd probably get slaughtered. Whilst I'm fine in haz res or CZ or on assassination missions, I've just not got the experience of PvP or know the right builds to use. And ED doesn't provide any (simple) way of practising this in a way that doesn't end up very expensive. If there was somewhere in open you could indulge in PVP, try out builds etc. but not actually incur a rebuy every death, it would encourage me to try. But right now I'd probably be a fish in barrel, even in a decent engineered ship.

That's the spirit. But PVP is very expensive.

I'll meet up and fight if you wanted to. We don't have to go to the death. It will give you some PVP experience, but I'm not very good. :)

Also, for ship builds and build advice, the GCI discord is a very valuable resource. It can get a bit "internety", but isn't that bad to me. Just stay out of the badlands channel.

If you find PVP interesting, you'd probably want to join up with a player group. Lone wolf, you are gonna run into wings which is almost always a loss. And 1v1's are a lot less fun than wing fights.

Also with player groups you can do more practice. I'm in Privateers Alliance and we just did an unmodded viper PVP night for people who haven't really PVP'd. Much cheaper and easier to get a taste of PVP that way.

Without PVP the whole game is screen shots of ASPS in front of ringed planet/star/ELW/Star/ELW, did I mention ELW?

We need those wars and some salt which is organically generated by the player base, not programmed NPCS.

I find PvP tedious and dull - for me exploration/mining/trading are much more fun. I've no problem with others engaging in PvP, but I've tried it and been bored. Think Marmite.

Cheers, Phos.

Because a little animosity between groups enhances things. Fighting each other isn't as much fun when both sides like each other.
Oh, I agree. Having groups fight and throw the odd jab at each other is cool. That's not what comes to mind when using the term "salt" though.

Edit: And there's a fine line between "a little animosity" and being "outright toxic." The latter seems to be quite frequent unfortunately.

Ah yes, what’s the fun of open combat without a few frienemies. Oh, I sort of hate them, but I like them for that.

So because PvP is part of the game, we need PvP forum wars or what?

Yes, it creates some meaning and emotional involvement in an otherwise useless battles.
Fdev didnt bother with creating content for PvP, so naturally, artificial hostilities evolved. As long as it doesn't spill into RL its all fun and games at the end of the day.

People dont need to take this game so seriously, nothing wrong with some in game s**t talking and forum wars.

That rage could of course be contained in the game or in discord instead of here, aside from that, PvP encounters tend to be between two experienced pilots instead of a gank so I see no use in teasing the PvE community considering they won't go and shoot you.

Did I mention that by simply ganking you are already getting a good amount of salt for your enjoyment or is it that a forum member has gone and killed you just because a post you made here?

I agree. Some sorry sod doesn't want to, or can't, or doesn't feel like finishing a fight and exists the game ungracefully and some people cry for Amnesty International to intervene and bring these guys to justice. Laughable KoS lists are made by people who think their little lists have any sort of impact.

Sure it's not allowed, but give it some rest please. It's no big deal. It's just a game. It's not even pixel spaceships, it's a simulated fight using pixel spaceships.
Splintering all PvP discussion into a subforum with the exception of sanctioned PG advertising has had the effect of neutering Dangerous Discussion.
I'm liking the subforum arrangement. There's lots of discussion in DD, so it's not neutered at all.
